President Joe Biden rewarded disgraced ex-Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney with one of the nation’s highest civilian honors on Thursday for her work undermining democracy through the illegally established and since-disbanded Jan. 6 Select Committee.

After sources close to Biden recently told The Washington Post he regretted that the Justice Department (DOJ) did not move more aggressively to jail top political opponents, Biden awarded Cheney the Presidential Citizens Medal. He also gave the medal to Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., who chaired the House probe. The Presidential Citizens Medal is second only to the Presidential Medal of Freedom in prestige.

Fox News contributor Guy Benson reminded followers on X that Thompson, the long-time Mississippi lawmaker, “refused to certify George W. Bush’s 2004 victory in Ohio.”

According to Newsweek, Democrats also objected to more states in the 2016 election than Republicans did in 2020, but none faced criminal charges. Democrats on the Jan. 6 panel, however, referred Trump to the Justice Department for criminal prosecution and successfully incarcerated former Trump advisers Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro for their refusal to comply with requests from the partisan probe.

House Republicans who ran their own investigation into the Capitol riot and the ensuing cover-up for then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s refusal to deploy the National Guard issued an additional criminal referral from the Jan. 6 saga last month. A report Tuesday by the Republican majority on the House Committee on House Administration recommended that former Rep. Liz Cheney be investigated “for potential criminal witness tampering” on the January 6 Committee.

The report, the committee’s second such report on the Capitol riot of January 6, 2021, found abuses by Cheney and the Democrat-dominated committee, and also concluded that the committee was not constituted according to the law.

As Breitbart News has previously reported, Cheney was discovered to have communicated with the Democrats’ “star” witness, Cassidy Hutchinson, without her attorney present. (Hutchinson’s sensational claims that then-President Donald Trump tried to wrestle the steering wheel of his presidential vehicle away from Secret Service agents to force them to drive to the U.S. Capitol during the riot were later refuted by the evidence).

As Breitbart News also reported, the committee produced evidence in October from subpoenaed text messages that showed Cheney communicating with Hutchinson through former White House aide Alyssah Farah Griffin (now a member of the cast on ABC’s The View).

Cheney’s role has led to a Bar complaint against her, as well as a Bar complaint against a left-wing dark money group called the 65 Project, which itself filed a Bar complaint against Hutchinson’s former attorney, Stefan Passantino. GOP Rep. Liz Cheney has drawn the ire of House January 6 Committee staffers over her influence on the final committee report expected out next month.

At least fifteen current and former members of the committee believe Cheney is manipulating the final report to place too much focus on former President Donald Trump while leaving other important information out, according to The Washington Post. Cheney’s office says that the staffers are wrong and that the information the Wyoming congresswoman is cutting out was rife with “liberal bias.”

One former committee staffer said that Cheney’s changes to the report were done chiefly for political reasons. Cheney’s focus on Trump is potentially coming at the cost of other committee research on law enforcement, militia groups, and financing, staffers complained.

“We all came from prestigious jobs, dropping what we were doing because we were told this would be an important fact-finding investigation that would inform the public,” the former staffer told WaPo. “But when [the committee] became a Cheney 2024 campaign, many of us became discouraged.” (Read more from “‘Liberal Bias’ or ‘Cheney 2024’? Rep. Liz Cheney teamed up with a Democratic colleague on the House Jan. 6 committee to push a rewrite of the Electoral Count Act that they say will ensure “future efforts to attack the integrity of presidential elections can’t succeed.”

Ms. Cheney, Wyoming Republican, and Rep. Zoe Lofgren, California Democrat, plan to introduce legislation to make the fix. They said it is critical because former President Donald Trump continued claims that the 2020 election threatens to spur others to change the outcome of future elections.

“This raises the prospect of another effort to steal a presidential election, perhaps with another attempt to corrupt Congress’s proceeding to tally electoral votes,” the lawmakers wrote in an op-ed previewing the legislation in The Wall Street Journal.

The bill could get a vote in House as soon as this week. It could be the last bill authored by Ms. Cheney, who lost in the Republican primary last month because of intense blowback from GOP voters over her anti-Trump stance.
