Pelosi Reveals Trump’s Wall Funding Fate

On Thursday, House Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., indicated to reporters that she would rather keep the government shut down indefinitely than send a bill to President Trump’s desk that funds a border wall.

Asked why President Trump would sign a Democratic bill that doesn’t include wall funding, Pelosi replied, “Does he want to have government closed forever?”

Congress must pass an appropriations bill to fund the government before the year’s end. Failing to do so will cause a partial government shutdown. President Trump on Tuesday vowed to take responsibility if the government shuts down, saying he would be “proud to shut down the government for border security,” and insisting that Democrats fund the wall or close up shop.

Either Trump or the Democrats will have to cave, and whoever caves first will face angry voters. (For more from the author of “Pelosi Reveals Trump’s Wall Funding Fate” please click HERE)

Pelosi Strikes Deal That Nearly Promises Her Speakership Position

By Politico. Nancy Pelosi struck a deal Wednesday with Democratic rebels intent on denying her the speakership, paving the way for her to reclaim the gavel she lost eight years ago.

The California Democrat has agreed to limit her time as speaker to four years at most. In return, a critical number of lawmakers who vowed to oppose Pelosi will support her in a crucial Jan. 3 House floor vote.

The proposal also limits the time her two deputies, Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and Assistant Democratic Leader Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.), can stay in their posts, although those changes will likely have to be ratified by the full caucus.

“Over the summer, I made it clear that I see myself as a bridge to the next generation of leaders, a recognition of my continuing responsibility to mentor and advance new Members into positions of power and responsibility in the House Democratic Caucus,” Pelosi said in a statement announcing the agreement. Nancy Pelosi Cuts Deal With Democratic Rebels to Ensure Return to Speakership

By NPR. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi has very likely sewn up the support she needs to become speaker of the House next year when the new Congress is sworn in.

In a deal struck with a group of House Democrats who had vowed to vote against the longtime Democratic leader in next month’s House speaker election, the California lawmaker agreed to term limits that would see her hold the post through 2022 at the latest. . .

The term limits agreement, which still needs to be formalized by a vote of House Democrats, would limit caucus leaders to three terms, and a fourth term if two-thirds of the caucus agrees to it. The new limits would apply retroactively to Pelosi as well as incoming Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland and incoming Majority Whip Jim Clyburn of South Carolina.

While that exit date is four years away, the agreement satisfies the key demand that the anti-Pelosi lawmakers had focused on: the fact that the same small group of Democrats has led the caucus for years, choking off substantial advancement opportunities for younger lawmakers. Pelosi Nominated for Speaker

By National Review. Representative Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) was nominated Wednesday to serve as the next speaker of the House, despite strident opposition from a small subset of her Democratic caucus. Pelosi’s nomination was all but guaranteed as the House Democrats opposed to her nomination failed to present an alternative candidate.

With the nomination secured by a vote of 203-32, the California progressive must now win over a majority of the House in a floor vote in early January before she can claim the gavel. Since the entire Republican caucus will likely vote against her, Pelosi can only afford to lose the support of 17 Democrats if she hopes to win the speakership.

While Pelosi was running unopposed, the party modified the standard nomination ballot to include a “no” option, so that freshman Democrats who ran on opposing her could tell their constituents they followed through on their respective pledges. Pelosi reportedly supported those freshmen lawmakers, giving them the go ahead to vote “no” to preserve their political capital. (Read more from “Pelosi Nominated for Speaker” HERE)

Another Dem to Oppose Pelosi

By The Hill. The road to the Speakership grew a bit steeper for Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Wednesday when another Democrat announced his opposition to the longtime party leader.

Rep. Ron Kind (D), an 11-term Wisconsin lawmaker, noted that he voted against Pelosi’s leadership bid on the floor two years ago, and he’s planning to do the same in January.

“I’ve been consistent in saying we’re in desperate need of new leadership on both sides, as we move forward in the new Congress,” Kind told The Hill.

A senior Democratic aide fired back, noting that Kind has supported Pelosi’s top lieutenants — Reps. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and James Clyburn (D-S.C.) — who have also been at the top of the party for more than a decade.

“This reasoning falls quite flat given Rep. Kind’s vote for Hoyer and Clyburn today,” the aide said, referring to Wednesday’s leadership votes on Capitol Hill. (Read more from “Another Dem to Oppose Pelosi” HERE)

Nancy Pelosi Gets Some Very Bad News – From Newly Elected Democrats

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is hoping to once again wield the gavel of the Speaker of the House, but Democrats just published a letter that has tossed some cold water on those aspirations. . .

Sixteen Democrats signed a letter that was publicized on Monday to oppose Pelosi for the speakership.

“Our majority came on the backs of candidates who said that they would support new leadership because voters in hard-won districts, and across the country, want to see real change in Washington,” the letter from Democrats read.

“We promised to change the status quo, and we intend to deliver on that promise,” the letter continued.

Sixteen members opposing her leadership is a serious threat because Pelosi needs 218 votes to seize the gavel – but Democrats only have 233 seats, so 16 members could tank her bid for the position. (Read more from “Nancy Pelosi Gets Some Very Bad News – From Newly Elected Democrats” HERE)

Results: Poll Reveals If Americans Prefer Trump or Pelosi

. . .According to the latest survey from Rasmussen Reports, Nancy Pelosi is more unpopular across the country than President Trump.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 45% of Likely U.S. Voters think Trump is at least somewhat likable, including 27% who think he’s very likable. Fifty-five percent (55%) think Trump is not likable, with 43% who believe he’s not at all likable.

By comparison, Pelosi is viewed as likable by 35% of voters. Fifty-seven percent (57%) don’t think the California Democrat is likable. These figures include 10% who say Pelosi’s very likable and 35% who say she is not at all likable.

Further, President Trump has a larger coalition and backing from Republicans than Pelosi does from Democrats.

A closer look at the numbers shows that most Republicans (76%) see Trump as likable. Fifty-five percent (55%) of Democrats feel that way about Pelosi, but a sizable 34% don’t think she’s likable.

Nancy Pelosi Snaps When Reporter Asks About Her Slumping Support From Democrats

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi expressed little patience with a reporter who questioned whether the former speaker of the house would have the support needed to take up her old post should the Democrats prevail in November.

“It is the least important question you could ask, with all due respect to your list of questions there,” she told NPR’s Scott Detrow in a story published on Tuesday.

Regarding her support among the Democrat caucus, Pelosi said, “We have 430 candidates. How many have you heard from?”

By NBC News’ count, 57 Democratic candidates and incumbents are on record saying they will not support Pelosi for speaker.

Last week, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., spoke positively about his party’s prospects of holding the House in the fall, arguing recent generic ballot polling showed the GOP where it was ahead of the 2016 elections.

“Two weeks ago, the generic ballot was at the exact same place it was the day before the election in 2016,” McCarthy pointed out that the GOP lost five seats that year.

Earlier this month, Rasmussen Reports found the congressional generic ballot tied at 44 percent, while a Reuters/Ipsos survey gave Democrats a four-point edge at 41 to 37 percent.

These results are similar to polling in the final week before the 2016 election, with multiple surveys showing the two sides nearly tied or having as much as a three-point lead on either side.

The Cook Political Report rates 182 current Democratic seats as solid holds heading into the midterms, while Republicans have 150.

However, when those rated likely to lean toward a party are factored in, the advantage shifts in the GOP’s favor, 202 to 192. Forty-one seats are rated as a toss-up.

The magic number to win control of the House is 218. (For more from the author of “Nancy Pelosi Snaps When Reporter Asks About Her Slumping Support From Democrats” please click HERE)

A New Poll Has Very Bad News for Nancy Pelosi

. . .Only 27 percent of Americans believe that the Democratic party should keep Pelosi as their leader according to a new poll.

Even among Democrats, Pelosi’s approval barely stays positive, with 50 percent saying she should keep her leadership position, and 49 percent saying she should be replaced.

The American Barometer poll from Hill.TV and HarrisX comes at a time when more Democrats are speaking out against Pelosi, and Republicans are using her extreme comments to campaign against Democrats in more moderate districts. . .

“Democrats are split on whether to keep Nancy Pelosi as leader and independents and most voter groups want someone else to step up,” said Dritan Nesho of HarrisX. “The findings suggest a yearning for change.”

Pelosi’s spokesman, Drew Hammill, rejected that conclusion when asked by the Hill to comment on the poll. Instead, Hammill pointed to similarly low polling for House Majority Leader Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). Outrage Erupts Over Nancy Pelosi’s Comments About the NFL – Here’s What She Said

Many on the left were outraged after House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was offered the chance to criticize the NFL’s recent decision to punish players who kneel during the national anthem, and didn’t. . .

During a CNN town hall Thursday evening, the Democrat leader was less than critical about the NFL’s rule against players and other personnel who kneel during the performance of the national anthem before a game.

“I would be more okay with it if they had consulted with the players,” Pelosi responded, “I don’t think the players agreed to this. This is the owners, and, by the way, it’s the owners who would be fined.”

“I love the national anthem,” she continued. “I’m from Baltimore. That’s where it was written during the War of 1812. So I’m very possessive of it. Sometimes people say, ‘Maybe we should change the national anthem.’ No.” . . .

In an article by Eugene Scott in the Washington Post, Pelosi’s comments were criticized as an example explaining why the Democrats were unable to court the black Millennial vote.

Nancy Pelosi Raises Eyebrows and a Whole Lot of Questions with Incoherent Rant on Iran

Democrats’ swift condemnation of President Trump’s decision to pull the U.S. out of the Iran nuclear deal may have been too quick for Nancy Pelosi to coherently gather her thoughts.

The House Minority Leader slammed the president for his decision, which she claimed threatens global security, but was soon rambling in her weekly briefing with reporters.

“For the president to destroy the successful Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action gravely endangers our global security and defies comprehension,” Pelosi said Thursday, referring to the Iran nuclear deal as “one of the great diplomatic achievements of our time.”

The California Democrat then held up a book which she earlier explained contained statements by Democrats in favor of the Obama-era policy.

“I show you this book because we didn’t ask people to sign a letter,” she said. “We asked them to study the agreement, to study the validation of ambassadors, and generals and admirals and military people across the board.”

Nancy Pelosi Thinks She’s Going To Be Speaker Of The House

By The Daily Caller. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi thinks she’s going to take Speaker of the House Paul Ryan’s job after the mid-term elections this November.

“We will win. I will run for speaker. I feel confident about it. And my members do, too,” Pelosi told The Boston Globe in a Tuesday interview.

“It’s important that it not be five white guys at the table, no offense,” Pelosi said. “I have no intention of walking away from that table.”

If Democrats do retake the House, Pelosi is certain to face resistance from members of her own party who want her to step aside. (Read more from “Nancy Pelosi Thinks She’s Going to Be Speaker of the House” HERE)

Nancy Pelosi Says She’ll Run for Speaker. Some Democrats Are Running the Other Way.

By CNN. . .Though it was long assumed that Pelosi would run for speaker again, the assurance is both a gift and a curse for the party heading into this year’s critical midterm elections. It gives more potency to a message Republicans have long employed: Vote for the Democrat, get Pelosi as speaker.

Her comments will now surely be featured in the countless ads that will run between now and November, laying the California Democrat — and her policies — at the feet of Democrats who hope to unseat vulnerable Republicans in swing districts. In response, some Democrats backed by the national party are already running away from her, pledging to vote against her if they get the chance or waffling on the question altogether.

“Pelosi is the face of a far-left, progressive agenda that would do great harm to our country if ever enacted,” Jesse Hunt, press secretary of the National Republican Congressional Committee, said when asked about how Pelosi’s announcement will loom in the election. “Expect support for her to be among the most contentious debates in Democratic primaries over the next few months.” (Read more from “Nancy Pelosi Says She’ll Run for Speaker.
