North Carolina Hurricane Victims Demand Accountability Following Helene’s Devastation

In the wake of Hurricane Helene’s catastrophic impact, victims from the hardest-hit areas of western North Carolina are expressing deep frustration and anger at the federal government’s response. Communities such as Asheville, Chimney Rock, Swannanoa, and Biltmore Village have experienced significant destruction, with flash flooding leading to the tragic loss of more than 200 lives.

Residents are struggling to navigate the aftermath, with many questioning the effectiveness and timeliness of the government’s aid efforts. An Asheville woman, standing amid a pile of debris, voiced her despair in an interview with NBC News, stating, “No. No,” when asked if she had any faith in receiving help from the government. “Nobody’s going to help us… I don’t know what we’re going to do,” she added, capturing the sentiment of many in the community.

Jordan Lanning, another resident, articulated his outrage during a Thursday interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters. He criticized the delayed response, noting it took five days for President Biden to visit the affected areas. “He didn’t think we were worth coming down to see us himself. He had to fly over on his way to Raleigh,” Lanning remarked, expressing a feeling of neglect from those in power.

The frustration has been further amplified by Vice President Kamala Harris’s recent announcement of a mere $750 in immediate aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for victims of Hurricane Helene. This decision has sparked nationwide backlash, especially in light of the Biden administration’s simultaneous pledge of $8 billion to support Ukraine. When questioned by Watters whether this amount was sufficient, Lanning responded emphatically, “No, it is not.”

“There are people who have lost everything,” he continued. “I’m not expecting [them] to give us thousands of dollars, but they can do more than that.” His comments resonate with many who feel that the government’s assistance does not reflect the scale of the disaster.

As the clean-up efforts continue and survivors grapple with their losses, the call for accountability from the federal government is growing louder.

Tragic: 1,000 People Reported Unaccounted for in North Carolina County Hit Hardest by Hurricane Helene

More than 1,000 people have been reported unaccounted for in a devastated North Carolina county where 30 people have already been confirmed dead after Hurricane Helene, officials said Sunday.

Authorities in Buncombe County reported the horrifying toll in an emergency meeting announcing emergency medical shelters and ongoing rescue efforts in areas almost overwhelmed by stormwater.

They also announced a special website to appeal for help finding those unaccounted for — with “more than 1,000 reports so far,” one local official told the live-streamed meeting.

“We’re doing the best we can,” Buncombe County Sheriff Quentin Miller said of conditions making it almost impossible to reach the stranded due to collapsed roads, failing infrastructure and widespread flooding.

Many of the unaccounted for are hoped to just be those without electricity and efforts to let loved ones know they are safe, officials said. (Read more from “Tragic: 1,000 People Reported Unaccounted for in North Carolina County Hit Hardest by Hurricane Helene” HERE)

Family of Five Tortured During Home Invasion, Including Children, Police Say

A neighborhood in North Carolina is terrified after police said that a family of five was tortured by home invaders for over an hour.

The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that the five people were sitting in their garage in Spout Springs with the garage door up when they were confronted by a group of men at about 2 a.m. on June 15.

The five victims included a father, a mother, their daughter, and the daughter’s friend. The fifth victim was not identified. . .

Police said the group, which could have numbered up to six men, tied up the victims with duct tape and began torturing them with heated metal.

“They put a knife and fork on top of the stove and heated it up and they just started sticking it to the body,” said Harnett County Sheriff Wayne Coats. “They were trying to get them to tell them where their money and guns were.”

The father, mother, and daughter were treated for their non-life threatening injuries at UNC-Chapel Hill. (Read more from “Family of Five Tortured During Home Invasion, Including Children, Police Say” HERE)

Special Forces Army Colonel Shoots, Kills Chechen Near Fort Bragg

A mysterious shooting in North Carolina north of Fort Liberty, formerly Fort Bragg, not far from where some of America’s most elite U.S. Special Operations forces live and train is under investigation by the Army Criminal Investigation Division as well as local police. The shooting in Carthage, North Carolina occurred May 3 at 8:15 p.m. following a phone call about a suspected trespasser near a Special Forces soldier’s property.

Two Chechen men who spoke broken English were found near the soldier’s home. The family alleges the suspected intruder, 35-year-old Ramzan Daraev of Chicago was taking photos of their children. When confronted near a power line in a wooded part of the property, an altercation ensued and Daraev was shot several times at close range. A second man, Dzhankutov Adsalan, was in a vehicle some distance from the incident and was questioned by authorities and then released. The Moore County Sheriff’s office is leading the investigation.

The FBI told Fox News, “Our law enforcement partners at the Moore County Sheriff’s Office contacted the FBI after a shooting death in Carthage. A special agent met with investigators and provided a linguist to assist with a language barrier for interviews.”

Sheriff Ronnie Fields said in a statement: “The caller indicated that an individual was observed taking photographs on the property and had become aggressive towards a resident outside their home…. The deceased was found approximately 250 yards from the roadway, along a powerline on the residential property. Identification was not initially found on Daraev; however, his identity was later confirmed through family members and an international identification located in his vehicle.”

The shooter has been identified as a Colonel with the U.S. Army who resided at the location of the shooting. (Read more from “Mysterious Shooting Outside Army Special Forces Residence in North Carolina Raises Questions” HERE)

Tragedy Strikes in North Carolina: US Marshal and Three Officers Killed in Shootout

An ordinary day in a quiet North Carolina neighborhood turned into a scene of horror and tragedy when law enforcement officers were met with a hail of bullets while attempting to serve a warrant. Four officers lost their lives and several others were wounded in the exchange of gunfire.

The incident occurred on Galway Drive, about 20 minutes west of downtown Charlotte, as officers were executing a warrant for a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. What should have been a routine procedure quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.

The initial barrage of bullets claimed the life of the wanted suspect, whose name was not disclosed. However, the danger was far from over. In a cruel twist, a second round of gunfire erupted, catching the officers off guard and resulting in additional casualties.

SWAT teams and patrol units descended on the scene, engaging in a tense standoff that lasted for three hours.

Amidst the chaos, the bravery and sacrifice of the fallen officers stood as a testament to their unwavering commitment to duty. Among them was Officer Joshua Eyer, a decorated member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department who had been named Officer of the Month just weeks prior. His loss was deeply felt by his colleagues and the community he served.

As the investigation unfolds, questions linger about the motives behind the deadly assault. Two individuals, a woman, and a 17-year-old boy, were taken into custody for questioning as persons of interest. Police discovered a high-powered rifle at the scene.

In the aftermath of the shootout, the community came together to mourn the fallen and offer support to the wounded. As Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles aptly stated, the most fitting tribute we can offer is to honor and respect the courageous men and women who put their lives on the line to protect us each day.

Over 150 Cancer Cases Reportedly Connected to State University Building

Over 150 cancer cases are reportedly connected to a building inside the campus of a North Carolina university, Mirror US reported Monday.

A health crisis has emerged at North Carolina State University, linking over 150 cancer cases to a former campus building, Poe Hall. The building was sealed off last November after allegedly discovering polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) concentrations, a known potential carcinogen, far exceeding safe limits set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), according to Mirror US. This action followed findings of PCB levels in five rooms surpassing EPA standards by 38 times.

The former students are reportedly dealing with cancer and now speaking up because they think their sickness might be related to their time in Poe Hall. Christie Lewis, a student at NC State between 2007 and 2012, told Fox News about her severe health problems.

“I was finishing up my finals, and I was going in for a physical at the health center … I was having night sweats for weeks and weeks before this, and I could not figure out what was happening,” NC State alumna Lewis told Fox News Digital. “I was having to get up in the middle of night and change clothes completely. And then I would fall asleep. And I had to put a towel down. It honestly took me weeks to even tell my husband about them because I kept on forgetting about it because it was just in the middle of the night.”

Kennedy Campaign: RFK Jr. Meets Requirement to Qualify for North Carolina Ballot, Fifth State So Far

Third-party presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s campaign announced Monday that it met the signature requirement to qualify for the ballot in a fifth state, North Carolina.

Kennedy Jr.’s campaign has collected some 23,000 signatures in the Tar Heel State and will run under the We the People Party, which supporters established in the state, a press release stated. The Kennedy Jr. campaign exceeded the 13,757 signature threshold required to be met by the May 31 deadline by some 10,000 signatures.

He is officially on the ballot in Utah, and his campaign notes that he has completed petitioning in three other states, including the swing states of Nevada and New Hampshire.

“In Hawaii, the Office of Elections has confirmed Kennedy Jr. supporters have collected the required signatures to establish the ‘We The People’ party,” the release adds.

Notably, North Carolina, Nevada, and New Hampshire are three key swing states that will play pivotal roles in deciding the outcome of the November election. (Read more from “Kennedy Campaign: RFK Jr. Meets Requirement to Qualify for North Carolina Ballot, Fifth State So Far” HERE)

6-Year-Old Hospitalized After Gobbling Marijuana Candy Sold to Unwitting Family

A 6-year-old spent hours in the emergency room after gobbling 13 times an adult dosage of THC-laced candy a North Carolina restaurant sold the unwitting family who thought they were buying Skittles.

“He was in excruciating pain,” mother Catherine Buttereit told The Post about the harrowing ordeal.

Buttereit and her family had a fun day of duckpin bowling planned Friday in Charlotte’s South End neighborhood that was derailed when the group went out to lunch at the Common Market, which is billed as an “uncommon convenience store, deli and bar.”

The mother and her young son were ordering their lunch at the bar when his eyes caught sight of what he thought were freeze-dried Skittles sitting on the counter, Buttereit recalled. . .

The effects kicked in quickly — while playing duckpin next door to the restaurant, the boy started complaining that his pelvic area was burning, his chest was freezing, his head hurt and his stomach was in knots. City Sued for Making Race a Qualification for Commissioners

The city of Asheville, N.C., has found itself on defense, in a federal courtroom, for requiring that members of a city commission be of certain races.

Officials with the Pacific Legal Foundation have filed a complaint in U.S. District Court in Asheville on behalf of John P. Miall and several others against the city, its manager and its mayor. . .

The problem is if an applicant isn’t the right race, he or she isn’t even considered. . .

The commission was created by the city in 2018, and its purpose is to “promote and improve human relations and achieve equity among all citizens in the city by carrying out the city’s human relations program.”

Then it turned racist, with a scheme demanding that six of the members are required to be “African-Americans,” and another two “Latinx.” (Read more from “City Sued for Making Race a Qualification for Commissioners” HERE)
