Miller: I Cannot In Good Conscience Stand By and Do Nothing

Dear Friend of Liberty,

Democrat Senator Mark Begich is scared. Following the President’s ObamaCare press conference yesterday, Begich announced his support for delaying implementation of the law’s so-called “grandfather rule” for two years rather than one.

The provision has already caused thousands of Alaskans and millions of Americans to lose their healthcare coverage. This fits a pattern for the vulnerable first term senator, who also wants to delay the employer mandate for another two years.

The reason is perfectly clear: he does not want the bad news of cancelled policy notices, dropped employer coverage and lost jobs to be hitting Alaskans as they head to the polls next fall. This is the DC establishment at its self-absorbed worst.

Rather than truly fixing the problem by repealing ObamaCare, Mark Begich stands by his 60th and deciding vote and seeks to delay some of its gravest consequences just long enough to somehow get re-elected. We know if he is successful, he will spend six more years whole-heartedly supporting liberal policies that rob our freedom and take this nation inexorably down the road to financial catastrophe.

These are perilous times for our country. Nothing else could induce me to venture back onto a battlefield that I know is bound to exact a high personal price, not just for me, but also for my family. But I cannot in good conscience stand by and do nothing while the political establishment puts their own self interest above the best interest of the American people.

You know where I stand. Constitutional government is the only answer to the challenges we face as a nation. It is time to stand up and fight for the things we hold dear: individual liberty, private property, free enterprise, and self-determination.

Alaskans also know that we are a unique state with boundless resources, but we have a high level of dependency on the federal government. It is time to move away from centralized power, and back toward the model of federalism envisioned by our founders.

The dysfunction of the central government – evidenced by the unmitigated Obamacare disaster, out-of-control deficit spending, and near-total disregard for the Bill of Rights – makes a return of power to the states not just a good idea, but one that could be necessary to our very survival as a free and prosperous society.

With the balance of power in the US Senate at stake, Alaska has become a battleground state in the 2014 election cycle.

Already corporate and special interests are spending big bucks to help Democrat Senator Mark Begich retain his seat, and outside groups are organizing on the ground in an effort to gain a strategic advantage.

While this is a matter of some concern, it is not a reason for panic. We have no intention of playing the traditional establishment game, or allowing our opponents to dictate our mode of operation.

We have the most extensive grassroots network in the state of Alaska, but we need your help to mobilize and spread our message of reform.

While we have not yet announced our official campaign kick-off date, I can assure you that we are already hard at work, and meeting with key allies from around the state and the nation to lay the necessary groundwork for a successful run. And in the meantime, we will continue to provide accountability for our sitting senator.

Let’s keep our eye on the ball. This isn’t a race merely about partisan advantage, it’s about saving the country we love.

Without a doubt, we are already watching candidates posture for political advantage. This week Mark Begich engaged in political theatrics playing the part of the outraged Senator who is shocked to learn that Obamacare is causing thousands of Alaskans to lose their healthcare plans and thousands more to see their premiums increased significantly. But we know it is not about what this or that candidate has to say during an election cycle that matters. We have heard that song and seen that dance before.

The question before the voters of Alaska will be one of who can be trusted to confront this lawless administration and to advocate for real reform in Washington.

My positions haven’t changed. I will fight tirelessly to dismantle the Washington bureaucracy and return government to the people.

Please help make reform a reality by making a generous donation today! I cannot win this battle without your generous financial help.

Together, we can return American values to our nation’s Capitol, and return power to the people.

Thanks for your friendship and support!

Yours for Liberty,

Joe

Obamacare ‘Fix’ Affirms Obama as Absolute Dictator with Power to Change Laws as he Pleases

Photo Credit: naturalnews.comIn a desperate bid to save the rapidly collapsing Obamacare socialized medicine program, President Obama announced a “fix” yesterday that would “allow” health insurance companies to avoid cancelling whatever plans haven’t already been cancelled due to Obamacare itself.

In doing so, Obama effectively declares himself absolute dictator over all laws across the country, assuming the power to enforce, ignore or alter laws at he pleases.

The problem with this is that such powers do not exist in the Office of the President. Like everything else surrounding Obamacare, Obama himself is simply inventing new powers as he goes along and hoping no one will question his assumed (illegal) authority.

“The unexpected compromise was announced amid growing revolt within Mr. Obama’s own party over his broken promise that Americans who liked their insurance could keep it. But it sparked another backlash as some legal scholars questioned whether the president had the authority to create the loophole,” reports the Washington Times.

It also, by the way, thrust the insurance industry into a state of chaos where insurance companies now have no idea what’s going to be “law” tomorrow, next month or next year. Apparently Obama can simply change his mind at any time and decide that insurance companies are suddenly engaged in mass criminal activities which can then be prosecuted under the law as it is written.

Five Jaw-Dropping Quotes from the Catastrophically Awful Obamacare Press Conference

President Obama had three goals coming into yesterday’s press conference: First, to shift responsibility for the Obamacare fiasco onto insurers by saddling them with mid-implementation changes. Second, to quell Democratic panic on Capitol Hill. And third, to nudge the media toward turning the page on his healthcare debacle. He accomplished none of these things. Indeed, he made things worse — sinking his presidency to a new nadir. A few jaw-dropping quotes:

(1) “What we’re also discovering is that insurance is complicated to buy.” Really, Mr. President? You’re “discovering” this minor detail three years after you forced through a massive, unpopular overhaul of the entire system? This statement is a breathtaking admission of abject dereliction and incompetence. ABC News’ Rick Klein also notes that the administration’s long-time talking points assured skeptical consumers that Obamacare would be easy to buy. That’s what all of the “just like Expedia!” comparisons were about. Now, with millions getting booted from their plans, with a horribly broken website exacerbating the pain, Obama suddenly sees the light. A disgrace.

2) “What we’re essentially saying is the Affordable Care Act is not going to be the factor in what happens with folks in the individual market.” Points for candor, I guess. Here the president explicitly spells out the motivation behind his so-called “fix” — which even liberal wonks and industry experts are admitting are unworkable and will make the law’s problems worse. The goal is not to repair the damage; the goal is to scapegoat someone else for the Obamacare wreckage that awaits. Insurance companies are the new villains. Insurers, who’ve been in bed with Obama on this law from the beginning, aren’t going to take the demonization lying down. Obama is decreeing a 13th-hour disruption that they cannot comply with at this stage, and that will throw their finances into chaos. They will, in turn, hike premiums even more next year. This is the death spiral, ladies and gentlemen. And Obama will try to stand to the side and point at his former Obamacare partners as the culprits. It’s shameful. And I suspect it won’t work. His credibility is in the tank.

Obama Likens Health Care Law To Forcing People to ‘Buy a New Car’ (+video)

Photo Credit: AP Photo/Charles DharapakBy Melanie Hunter.

President Barack Obama on Thursday compared the grandfather clause in Obamacare to telling people they have to buy a new car right now even if they can’t afford it – when cars were first required to have seat belts or air bags.

“So what we’re saying now is if you’re buying a new car, you’ve got to have a seat belt. Well, the problem with the grandfather clause that we put in place is it’s almost like we said to folks, ‘You gotta buy a new car, even if you can’t afford it right now,’” he said during Thursday’s press conference on how to fix the Affordable Care Act.

“And sooner or later, folks are going to start trading in their old cars, but if their life circumstance is such that for now at least, they want to keep their old car even if the new car is better, we should be able to give them that option, and that’s what we want to do,” Obama said.

According to healthcare.gov, grandfathered health insurance plans “are those that were in existence on March 23, 2010 and haven’t been changed in ways that substantially cut benefits or increase costs for consumers. Insurers must notify customers with these policies that they have a grandfathered plan.”

Photo Credit: APObama: ‘I Must Win Back Credibility’

By Ben Shapiro.

On Thursday, President Obama took to the White House podium to explain that he would be unilaterally allowing insurance companies to continue selling health insurance plans Americans liked and wanted to keep. Obamacare has already wiped away those plans, and will undoubtedly drive up rates in both the now-broken individual market and the high-risk pool of people likely to enter the Obamacare exchanges.

President Obama was half an hour late to his press conference, which was supposed to begin at 11:35 a.m. ET. During his comments, he never called Obamacare by that name; instead, he reverted to terming it the Affordable Care Act. “Today I want to update the American people on our efforts to implement and improve the Affordable Care Act,” Obama said.

From there, Obama turned to the horrendously low Obamacare enrollment numbers. He noted that 106,000 Americans had selected a health insurance plan. “Is that as high a number as we’d like?” Obama said. “Absolutely not. But it does mean that people want affordable healthcare.” After blaming the website again, Obama said, “there’s no question that there’s real demand for quality affordable health insurance.”

Later, when asked by National Journal’s Major Garrett why he had continued to pump the website just one week before launch, and whether he had been informed about the technical problems, President Obama claimed ignorance. “I was not informed directly that the website was not working,” Obama said. “If I’d been informed, I wouldn’t have gone out and said ‘The website is going to be great.’” He added, “I don’t think I’m stupid enough” to compare the website to Amazon or Travelocity knowing it would fail.

Second O’Keefe Video Exposes More Obamacare Navigators Telling People to Commit Fraud (+video)

Photo Credit: capitolcityproject.comJames O’ Keefe’s Project Veritas has released a second video showing even more Obamacare Navigators in Texas suggesting fraud and deceit to undercover reporters — despite some in the mainstream media calling the first exposé an “isolated incident.”

“Today, Project Veritas released a second investigation exposing more Obamacare navigators counseling applicants to lie and cheat the health care system by erroneously reporting income status, health history, and more,” Project Veritas wrote.

They continue, “Critics said the first video was an isolated incident so we decided to visit with even more navigators funded by your American tax dollars. What we found was disturbing and showed a clear pattern of fraud through the Obamacare navigator program.”

Within the new video, Obamacare Navigators in Texas yet again counsel the reporters to lie in order to avoid higher premiums.

Hugo Chavez-Linked Group Crafted ‘You Can Keep Your Plan’

Photo Credit: WND A little-known group called the Herndon Alliance has been the driving force in branding Obamacare to the public.

It was this group that advised President Obama to say Americans can maintain their choice of doctors and insurers under his health-care plan, WND has learned.

The Herndon Alliance is openly partnered with a number of radical groups, including MoveOn, the National Council of La Raza and a slew of George Soros-funded activist organizations.

It is also partnered with a “direct action” group dedicated to the teachings of radical Saul Alinsky.

The original research that informed Herndon’s blueprint for marketing Obamacare, WND has found, was concocted by the imaging guru for the late Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez.

Joe Miller Dismisses Begich Healthcare Move as ‘Political Theater’

Fairbanks, Alaska. November 13, 2013 — This week Mark Begich announced that he has opted to sign up for Obamacare using Alaska’s federal exchange, purportedly to forgo the subsidy offered by the Obama administration that exempted Congress from the effects of the new healthcare law. He said he wants to “have the exact same experience and go through the same steps as other Alaskans.”

Joe Miller wasn’t impressed.

“It’s all political theater,” said Miller. “Where was Mark a few weeks ago when an amendment was offered by Senator Vitter to remove the Congressional subsidy altogether? I don’t recall him jumping on the bandwagon.”

Miller added, “Having said that, the fact that Mark Begich ‘feels our pain’ is of little comfort to thousands of Alaskans who have lost their health plans, or the thousands more who will be paying significantly higher premiums due to Obamacare.”

Senator Begich was the 60th and deciding vote on Obamacare in 2010, and even refused to strike down one of the law’s most egregious regulations. In a straight party line vote, he supported the so-called “grandfather rule,” which negated his and President Obama’s promise that “if you like your healthcare plan, you can keep your healthcare plan.” So much for putting Alaskans first.

Alaskans know that he is responsible for the difficulties we are facing, and he’s not going to get extra credit for working to save us from the consequences of his own actions.

“Mark Begich has chosen to spend his years in the United States Senate carrying the water for Barack Obama and Harry Reid,” Miller said. “Unfortunately, his constituents have to pay the price. But if Mr. Begich is so keen on having the ‘exact same experience’ as the rest of us, perhaps we can send him to the unemployment line with the Alaskans who won’t have a job due to the economic fallout from Obamacare.”

Miller concluded, “Part of leadership is having the foresight to stop the train before it wrecks, and on that count our junior senator has miserably failed.”

Joe Miller is a husband, father, war veteran, businessman, and Constitutional conservative who believes in limited government, the Right to life, individual liberty, private property, and free markets.

Fifty-Three Alaskans Sign Up for ObamaCare During First Month

Photo Credit: WND Alaska is one of 36 states that has relied on the federally run site to provide access to the marketplace, where individuals can browse for insurance to help meet requirements of the federal health care law. The site has been marred by glitches since its launch Oct. 1, and in the first month, less than 27,000 people in those states had selected plans, figures released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services showed. Another 79,000 individuals had signed up in states running their own exchanges.

“There is no doubt the level of interest is strong,” Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said in a release. She said enrollment is expected to grow “substantially” over the coming months. The open enrollment period ends March 31. That is also the cutoff date to enroll without risk of a penalty.

The federal health care law requires virtually all Americans to have insurance beginning next year. There are exemptions for financial hardships and religious objections, but those who ignore the mandate will face fines.

U.S. Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, said the figures released Wednesday show the health care law “is a sinking ship with too many holes to fill.”

Ted Cruz: Clintons Fleeing Obamacare (+video)

Photo Credit: APSen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said on Wednesday that “nobody can defend” the Affordable Care Act following its troubled roll out, suggesting that recent comments by Bill Clinton should serve as a smoke signal to Democrats.

“Three and a half years ago it might have been possible for reasonable minds to differ,” he said on Fox News on Wednesday regarding the ACA. “Today, nobody is saying that. Nobody can defend it because millions of people are losing their jobs or are at part-time work.”

Cruz emphasized that millions of Americans have had their health insurance plans changed or cancelled in recent months, which has resulted in widespread criticism of President Barack Obama.

Architect of ObamaCare Blames Fox News for Website’s Failure (+video)

Photo Credit: Fox News Tonight on The Kelly File, Megyn Kelly took on the architect of ObamaCare for the second time. Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel called the ObamaCare numbers released today “disappointing,” but said it’s not surprising given the website’s problems.

“That’s not right, Megyn, you’ve got the numbers wrong,” Emanuel said right off the bat, challenging the fact that almost five million Americans have had their insurance plans canceled.

After a heated back-and-forth, Kelly asked Emanuel if he believes the cancelations are unrelated to the ObamaCare rollout. He maintained that insurance companies cancel plans “all the time.”

Kelly pressed Emanuel repeatedly on whether he predicted insurance companies would cancel individual plans, forcing people into the exchanges. “Whether you could anticipate what business would do is irrelevant,” he answered.
