Oregon Supreme Court Bars Ten GOP Senators From Re-Election

The Oregon Supreme Court ruled on Thursday to disqualify ten Republican lawmakers from running for re-election. This move comes after the GOP senators staged an extended walkout last year, lasting approximately six weeks, in protest of dem-proposed bills.

The court’s decision aligns with the requests from Democrats who sought a ballot ban for the GOP lawmakers. The ruling upholds the secretary of state’s authority to disqualify these senators under Measure 113, a voter-approved measure passed in 2022. This measure empowers the state constitution to prevent lawmakers from seeking re-election if they accumulate more than ten unexcused absences.

The walkout conducted by Republican senators disrupted the legislative session and caused delays in the consideration of numerous bills. Measure 113 aimed to address such boycotts by enforcing consequences for prolonged, unexcused absences.

The Oregon Senate Republican Caucus expressed strong criticism of the Supreme Court’s decision, accusing the court of favoring Democrats and union interests. They contended that the ruling effectively terminated the service of ten Republican senators, constituting one-third of the Oregon Senate.

Five of the banned lawmakers, including Senators Tim Knopp, Daniel Bonham, Suzanne Weber, Dennis Linthicum, and Lynn Findley, filed a lawsuit challenging the secretary of state’s decision:

Five lawmakers, among the ten who are banned from re-election, filed a lawsuit over the secretary of state’s decision. Republican Senators Tim Knopp, Daniel Bonham, Suzanne Weber, Dennis Linthicum, and Lynn Findley are named on the document.

“We obviously disagree with the Supreme Court’sCourt’s ruling,” Knopp, the chamber’s minority leader, said. “But more importantly, we are deeply disturbed by the chilling impact this decision will have to crush dissent.”

Weber said she was disappointed but not surprised the state’s Democrat leaders— Gov. Kate Brown and Gov. Tina Kotek— sided in favor of the “political rhetoric rather than their own precedent.”

“Every legal mind I’ve heard from, regardless of political leanings, has affirmed that when there is only one interpretation for the plain language of the law, that is final,” Bonham said. “The language incorporated into the Oregon Constitution was clear, yet the Supreme Court ruled that voter intent, which cannot be determined by any metric, supersedes the Constitution. There is no justice in a political court.” (Townhall)

The amendment specifies that lawmakers cannot run “for the term following the election after the member’s current term is completed.” The senators argued that they could seek another term, given that a senator’s term ends in January, while elections take place the previous November.

Mother Waterboarded Her Baby, Put Him in Freezer to Test if Father ‘Gave a F*** At All’ About Child, Court Docs Say. Mom Just Got Her Sentence: 30 Days in Jail.

An Oregon mother who waterboarded her baby and put him in a freezer to test if the father “gave a f*** at all” about the child, court documents say, just got her sentence: 30 days in jail.

In addition to her jail time, 30-year-old Sharday McDonald also was sentenced Tuesday to three years of probation after being convicted of criminal mistreatment, tampering with a witness, and ID theft, KATU-TV reported. . .

Gresham police in October 2021 responded to a report of a mom putting her baby in a freezer at an apartment at 174th and Burnside, KATU reported, citing court documents.

Arriving officers heard through the door a woman yelling, “You don’t want him. Let me show you this little f***ing baby I don’t f***ing give a f*** about,” the station said.

When the woman — later identified as McDonald — answered the door, she was holding the baby in a blanket, KATU reported. Disgusting: University Promotes ‘LGBTQ Emergency Fund,’ Sex Toy Shop to Students

The University of Oregon is offering an “emergency fund” for trans-identified students to attain “gender affirming resources,” including sex toys and “trans vocal lessons.”

The public university allows LGBTQ students to request financial assistance to cover transgender treatments, support, and resources under the Gender-Affirming Support Fund. The form is processed through the Office of the Dean of Students in coordination with the Financial Aid Office.

The application describes the fund as “an opportunity for LGBTQIA+ students at the University of Oregon to request emergency funding one time during each academic year to pay for items that impact their sexuality or gender identity.”

The fund cannot be used to pay for textbooks, tuition, or university fees. Instead, the application points students to a different form. In the application form, students must present their gender identity, the anticipated cost per item, and their circumstances prompting them to apply.

The Gender Affirming Support Fund is but one of the LGBTQ “resources” UO Dean of Students Marcus Langford’s website promotes. The website advertises As You Like It, an “eco-conscious, green, gender-inclusive sex toy shop” in Eugene. Oregon Bill Would Decriminalize Homeless Encampments, Allow Unhoused People to Sue for Harassment

Oregon Democrats have introduced a state bill that would decriminalize homeless encampments and allow unhoused residents nearly unlimited access to public spaces.

The “Oregon Right to Rest Act” aims to support people experiencing homelessness by allowing them to “rest in public spaces and seek protection from adverse weather conditions,” as well as use public spaces freely without time limits based on their housing status.

The bill would also allow homeless people to sue for $1,000 if they are harassed or kicked off public land.

“Many persons in Oregon have experienced homelessness as a result of economic hardship, a shortage of safe and affordable housing, the inability to obtain gainful employment and a disintegrating social safety net,” the bill’s text states.

“Decriminalization of rest allows local governments to redirect from local law enforcement activities that address the root cause of homelessness and poverty.” (Read more from “Oregon Bill Would Decriminalize Homeless Encampments, Allow Unhoused People to Sue for Harassment” HERE)

Elementary School Assistant and ‘Drag Mom’ to 11-Year-Old Child Drag Queen Sentenced to Prison for Child Sex Crimes

A self-described “drag mom” and former instructional assistant at an elementary school in Oregon will spend less than a year after being found guilty of 11 felony child sex crimes.

Last year, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office received tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force accusing Kelsey Meta Boren of uploading child porn to the internet, according to KDRV-TV.

While executing a search warrant at Boren’s home, detectives said they found “evidence indicating that Boren has utilized the internet on numerous occasions to distribute and exchange pornographic images of children.” . . .

Before her arrest, Boren frequently posted photos on social media of herself with an 11-year-old girl, who is also a child drag performer named Vanellope MacPherson DuPont. In the social media posts, Boren reportedly referred to herself as the child’s “drag mom.”

Two months after her arrest, Boren participated in a drag queen event that featured a Vanellope MacPherson DuPont at Old Nick’s Pub in Eugene, Oregon. The venue is a Satan and pagan-themed bar that regularly hosts drag queen shows, drag queen story hour, and “fetish nights.” (Read more from “Elementary School Assistant and ‘Drag Mom’ to 11-Year-Old Child Drag Queen Sentenced to Prison for Child Sex Crimes” HERE)

Oregon’s Ban on Christians Adopting Violates the First Amendment — And Good Sense

Christians have a long history of caring for children in need. The Christian apologist St. Basil the Great opened what is regarded as one of the first orphanages in the fourth century. He dedicated a wing of his monastery to raising and educating orphans where the monastics acted as “surrogate parents.” And here, in what would later become America, some of the first orphanages were founded in the early 18th century by Catholic nuns and Lutherans.

Jessica is a mother of five children, a part-time ultrasound technician, and a devout Christian. She’s also a widow. Her late husband died in a car wreck several years ago. Then, after hearing a broadcast about one man’s adoption story, she felt convicted. The Bible describes God as a Father to the fatherless and a protector of widows. He had provided for her. Now she felt called to extend that same love to a child in need.

But when Jessica applied to Oregon’s Department of Human Services, the state put her through an ideological litmus test — one that ferrets out people of faith who disagree with the state’s views on the metaphysical differences between men and women. . .

Specifically, state regulations require prospective caregivers to demonstrate that they will “accept” and “support” a child’s sexual orientation and so-called gender identity and expression. This means caregivers must agree to use preferred pronouns, take their children to events such as LGBT pride parades, and even take young children to receive hormone shots as part of what the left calls “gender transition.” When Jessica explained that she would love any child, but she just couldn’t do anything that went against her Christian faith, the state turned her away. According to Oregon, people with traditional religious beliefs about our sexual differences are unfit to care for children.

This policy violates the First Amendment. It categorically excludes entire religious communities from the adoption and foster-care process, violating our constitutional protections for religious liberty. It also violates our rights to free speech by compelling Jessica to affirm by word and deed her beliefs in the state’s ideology. Armed Intruders Break Down Home’s Front Door in Middle of Night. But Homeowner Pulls His Own Gun, Fires Multiple Shots, and Gives Crooks Painful Send-Off.

Armed intruders broke down the front door of an Oregon home in the middle of the night last week — but it turns out the homeowner had his own gun and fired it multiple times at the crooks, wounding them before they hightailed it away from the scene.

Springfield police said they responded to the home in the 400 block of South 51st Place at 1:51 a.m. Friday, KTVL-TV reported, and the victim said two suspects used force to break down the home’s front door.

Both suspects were armed, authorities added to the station.

But the victim told police he was armed with his own weapon and fired multiple rounds at the suspects, authorities told KTVL, adding that both suspects suffered multiple gunshot wounds and fled the scene in a vehicle.

However, patrol officers quickly located the suspects — identified as 33-year-old Gregory Robinson and 24-year-old Christopher Alexander, both of Portland — and took them into custody, the station said. Springfield is about an hour and 45 minutes south of Portland. (Read more from “Armed Intruders Break Down Home’s Front Door in Middle of Night. States Cut off Salmon Fishing Season Because of ‘Climate Disruption’

The National Marine Fisheries Service canceled the 2023 ocean salmon season in California and Oregon between March 10, 2023, and May 15, 2024.

A statement from California Department of Fish and Wildlife noted that there would be no “commercial or ocean salmon sport fishing off California until April 2024.” The statement cited data suggests near-record low numbers for California’s Chinook ocean salmon stocks in 2023 caused by “climate disruption.”

“The main factor in making their determination is salmon returns,” one department spokesperson told Fox Weather. “These fish are returning to their home rivers from birth three years ago, following their voyage out to the ocean. Three years ago, we were dealing with intense drought that dried up rivers as well as climate disruption.”

State’s New Gun Control Law Sparks Buying Spree as Thousands Race to Get Firearms

Oregon’s new law that will rigidly tighten the state’s gun restrictions led to a massive uptick in attempted firearms purchases, according to NBC affiliate KGW8.

Ballot Measure 114 was passed during the midterm elections and is credited as one of the most restrictive gun laws in the country, sending background checks skyrocketing from 850 per day, prior to the midterms, to 4,000 per day after the law’s passing, according to KGW8. The measure, often referred to as the Reduction of Gun Violence Act, will require deeper background checks, firearm training, fingerprint collection and a permit to purchase any firearm, according to the legislation, set to be effective in December.

The Oregon state police reported more than 18,000 transactions during election week, resulting in a backlog in background checks, according to KGW8. In 2020, COVID-19 restrictions caused a backlog in background checks that eventually leveled off right before the elections, the Oregon State Police reported.

The measure’s requirements have caused controversy for gun owners in Oregon, leading Lincoln County Sheriff Curtis Landers to release a statement Wednesday clarifying the new law.

The secessionist movement by conservative Oregon counties seeking to join Idaho continues to gather steam.

“Residents in Morrow County and Wheeler County have voted in favor of a measure related to moving the state line between Oregon and Idaho, joining nine previous eastern Oregon counties to vote in support of ‘Greater Idaho,” KPTV reported. “The Oregon Secretary of State website shows on Wednesday afternoon that of 800 votes in Wheeler County, 58% were in favor, and of the 3,837 votes in Morrow County, 60% were in favor.”

Harney County joined the movement in the 2021 election, joining, “Lake, Grant, Baker, Malheur, Union, Sherman, and Jefferson

According to the group pushing the idea, Citizens for Greater Idaho, there are now 11 counties that have supported the idea at the ballot box: Baker, Grant, Harney, Klamath, Jefferson, Lake, Malheur, Morrow, Sherman, Union, and Wheeler. The group says Wallowa will vote next. (Read more from “Oregon Counties Vote ‘Yes’ on Secession From State: Report” HERE)
