North Portland’s rampant homeless problem has residents fleeing the city, according to a report.
Real-estate broker Lauren Iaquinta told KGW8 that she’s seen an uptick in residents packing up and heading to the suburbs because of a homeless camp in the neighborhood’s Peninsula Crossing Trail.
“You can be driving through North Portland and you’re in this lovely area where there’s no issues, and then you can make a turn around the corner and have homeless camps there,” she said. “It’s kind of sad. I’ve been doing this for 10 years here in Portland and it’s changed quite a bit.”
Iaquinta said she now has to vet areas when selling homes because clients don’t want to live near homeless people. She did not cite any data about people moving because of the homeless encampment.
“Most people don’t want to have to worry about if they can leave their car parked in their driveway overnight without maybe having it broken into,” she said. “It’s a pretty testy subject.” (Read more from “There Goes the ‘Hood: Rampant Homeless Population Driving Residents Out of Woke City” HERE)

By Breitbart. An Oregon father who saluted President Joe Biden on a livestream with “Let’s go, Brandon” during the annual White House NORAD Santa-tracking phone call says it was offered as “a joke,” according to a report.
“Merry Christmas, and let’s go, Brandon!”Jared Schmeck said, referring to the popular conservative phrase to signal dissatisfaction with the president after Biden spoke with his kids on the phone last Friday. . .
“I understand there is a vulgar meaning to ‘Let’s go Brandon,’ but I’m not that simple-minded, no matter how I feel about him,” Schmeck insisted to the newspaper. “He seems likes he’s a cordial guy. There’s no animosity or anything like that. It was merely just an innocent jest to also express my God-given right to express my frustrations in a joking manner … I love him just like I love any other brother or sister.”
Schmeck said he “stood 100% behind what I did and what I said,” adding he’s not a supporter of former President Donald Trump but is frustrated with Biden policies such as federal vaccine mandates, along with issues like inflation. . .
Schmeck claims to be getting threats after the exchange, telling the Oregonian that he’s been receiving what reporter Maxine Bernstein identified as “vague but threatening phone calls.” (Read more from “Just Joking: Oregon Dad Claims No Animosity in ‘Let’s Go, Brandon’ Crack at Joe Biden” HERE)
‘God-Given Right to Express My Frustration’: Biden’s Christmas ‘Let’s Go, Brandon’ Caller Comments on His ‘Innocent Jest’
By Daily Caller. An Oregon man, who told President Joe Biden “let’s go, Brandon” during a call at a Christmas Eve event, commented Saturday on the remark, saying that he meant it as a “joke.”
Jared Schmeck, who is a 35-year-old father of four and works for an electric company, described himself as a “free-thinking American and follower of Jesus Christ,” noting that he was not a “Trumper,” according to The Oregonian.
“I understand there is a vulgar meaning to ‘Lets go Brandon,’ but I’m not that simple-minded, no matter how I feel about him,” Schmeck said of his now-viral remark. “He seems likes he’s a cordial guy. There’s no animosity or anything like that. It was merely just an innocent jest to also express my God-given right to express my frustrations in a joking manner … I love him just like I love any other brother or sister.”

More than 500 residents in Oregon have now died of COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated against the virus as health officials continue to report over 2,000 new infections daily.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, health authorities in Oregon have recorded a total of 552 breakthrough COVID-19 deaths throughout the state. Of the total number of deaths, 273 people had been fully vaccinated with the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. At least 144 received the Moderna vaccine and 78 were given the Johnson & Johnson shots, according to data from the Oregon Health Authority.
The recent report also showed that there were 4,134 new COVID-19 cases recorded between Nov. 21 and Nov. 27. At least 1,186 were breakthrough infections.
As of Dec. 2, Oregon reported a total of 45,545 coronavirus infections among the fully vaccinated. At least 6.6% of breakthrough infections were reported in people aged 80 and older. People aged 12 to 19 also accounted for 4.8% of all cases reported in the state. The majority of the cases (10.9%) were reported in people aged 30 to 39.
The Oregon Health Authority’s report comes as the state continues to report high rates of COVID-19 cases. Over the past weekend, health officials recorded 2,041 new infections and 25 additional deaths. (Read more from “Over 500 Fully Vaccinated Oregon Residents Died of COVID-19” HERE)

There are six states — Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada (in substantial rates of COVID-19 transmission), New Mexico, Oregon, and Washington — that still require most people to wear face masks in indoor public places regardless of vaccination status. Oregon is taking it to another level by considering indefinite mask mandates.
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) met on Thursday for about two hours to begin the process of drafting an order to make the state’s indoor mask requirement permanent. The OHA’s Rules Advisory Committee (RAC) discussed what the new indefinite face mask mandate would look like and the impact it could have on the public.
“Community stakeholders, including those from the hospitality and faith sectors, joined in the meeting,” KOMO reported. “People from the Seventh Day Adventists Church, the High Desert Museum, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and McMenamins were a part of the conversation.”
Yes — that may sound alarming. Here's what you need to know about it:
-The current rule is temporary. It can't be in place more than 180 days. -Making the rule permanent allows the state to keep the rule. -The rule can be repealed.#LiveOnK2pic.twitter.com/qEZAeExxu8
Some of the private business representatives expressed concerns about people not wanting to comply with mask mandates.
“Getting people to comply is getting harder,” said Paloma Sparks from the Oregon Business & Industry Association. (Read more from “State Drafts Rule to Make Mask Wearing Permanent” HERE)

A mother was planning to spend a nice day with her 2-year-old daughter at popular Multnomah Falls in Oregon on Sunday, but they ended up getting the scare of a lifetime.
The hiking trail they were on was slick, as it had been raining, and at some point the toddler slipped, according to KGW-TV. Mom reacted — grabbing the toddler and trying to pull her up — but mom lost her footing, too, and both tumbled to the creek below.
Initial reports put the distance at 50 feet, but later reports stated the pair likely fell 100 to 150 feet. Good Samaritans leaped into action, providing assistance immediately while others gathered blankets and jackets from the gift shop.

Lawmakers in Oregon have decided that every firearm in the state should be put under lock and key, a move that would prevent easy access should those gun owners need to defend themselves if ever they are confronted by an intruder bent on evil.
The Associated Press reported the bill was signed by Gov. Kate Brown this week which was approved by the legislature over the objection of minority Republicans.
It also bans firearms in the state Capitol building, which earlier had been allowed under the policies then in effect.
Brown claimed on social media she hopes her move will “help spare more Oregon families from the grief of losing a loved one to gun violence.” (Read more from “State Orders Gun Owners to Lock up Weapons” HERE)

On Tuesday, voters in five counties in eastern Oregon urged county officials to begin to promote border relocation and joining Idaho.
The counties — Malheur, Sherman, Grant, Baker and Lake — join Jefferson and Union counties, whose voters applied to join Idaho last year, in their planned secession to what is being called “Greater Idaho.”
While President Biden was favored 56 to 40 percent ahead of former President Donald Trump statewide, these five counties heavily favored Trump over Biden with up to 69-79 percent of the vote going to Trump.
The group, Move Oregon’s Border for a Greater Idaho, is behind the effort. In addition to rural eastern Oregon, the planned Greater Idaho would also encompass large swathes of northeastern California. . .
“This election proves that rural Oregon wants out of Oregon. If Oregon really believes in liberal values such as self-determination, the Legislature won’t hold our counties captive against our will,” Mike McCarter, lead petitioner, said. They’re here! The COVID-19 “vaccine passports” that have been discussed so much are becoming a reality in Oregon.
The state has mandated that all businesses, employers and churches must continue to enforce a mask requirement unless they have a policy for “checking for proof of vaccination status of individuals,” and request and review “each individual’s proof of vaccination.”
The state’s previously imposed masking and distancing requirements must be enforced on anyone who “has declined to provide such proof,” the state has instructed.
The state also said masks still are required — even for who are fully vaccinated with proof of vaccination status — in health care settings, jails, youth detention centers, shelters, transitional houses, K-12 schools, planes, buses, trains and transportation hubs.
Oregon Live reported the state will let people go without masks outdoors but will require them “to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 – and be able to prove it” to go without masks indoors. (Read more from “COVID Vaccine Passports Becoming Reality in Liberal State” HERE)

A joint House and Senate committee of the Idaho legislature listened to an appeal by members of a group that want Idaho to absorb most of Oregon.
The request is a longshot — requiring approval of the legislatures of both states as well as Congress — but the invitation from Idaho lawmakers may have been the biggest win so far for the group, Move Oregon’s Border for a Greater Idaho, the Idaho Press reported.
Idaho state Rep. Barbara Ehardt, R-Idaho Falls, helped make the April 12 meeting possible.
“Why not have the conversation? It’s an intriguing idea. There absolutely are benefits to the idea,” she said. “It’s not necessarily something that would happen right away.” . . .
The founder of Move Oregon’s Border for a Greater Idaho, Mike McCarter, said in his presentation that the “boundary between Oregon and Idaho is outdated because it doesn’t match the cultural boundary between urban communities who like Portland’s leadership and rural communities that are traditional, family-oriented, self-reliant.” (Read more from “Idaho Legislature Considers Absorbing Part Of Oregon” HERE)
