Public High School Comes Under Fire for Reading Daily Bible Scripture, Superintendent is Defiant in Response to Atheist Group’s Complaints

An atheist activist group has its sights set on a White Oak, Texas, high school after it was revealed that the principal reads students daily Bible scriptures, an exercise referred to as “Thought for the Day.” But if the defiant response from the White Oak ISD superintendent is any indication, it seems no one will be backing down.

Superintendent Michael Gilbert not only defended White Oak High School principal Dan Noll in a written statement, he also told the Freedom From Religion Foundation, “I’m sorry you feel that way. I will be praying for you and your staff daily.”

Noll’s daily scripture readings made headlines after a student recorded the principal and gave the audio to an atheist blogger. The tradition apparently goes back decades, according to students who spoke to KETK-TV.

In his statement, Gilbert said in his statement that he “will not pursue any action against our High School Principal or any other member of our faculty/staff concerning this issue” . . .

“Let me be clear, this is an attempt to draw us into a contest of words for the sole purpose of giving the FFRF a large amount of free press/recognition that they and their very few members (1,200 in Texas) do not deserve. This group and others like it, are wanting us to provide them with negative quotes to use in the promotion of their agenda. We can and will make the adjustments needed to ensure our students experience a morally sound, positive character based education. There are a multitude of options to provide our students, faculty and staff the opportunity to express their First Amendment Rights as provided for in the United States Constitution. Let me also be clear that we have not (in my opinion) violated anyone’s rights and/or subjected anyone to undue stress. Bible studies and scriptures are allowed in schools. The requirement is that the material be presented in a neutral manner. It is my position that we met that standard with the morning announcements.” (Read more from “Texas Principal Comes Under Fire for Reading Daily Bible Scripture, Superintendent’s Response to Atheist Group Is Epitome of Defiant” HERE)

Basketball Players Defend Handicapped Cheerleader Targeted by Bully, Turn Her Life Around [+video]

A student being bullied at a Lincoln Middle School basketball game caught the attention of the basketball players. They walked off the court to come to defend her.

This is where it all happened for Desiree Andrews. As she was being bullied from the stands, a few boys on the team said enough’s enough, and that’s where this bullying situation turned her life around.

Desiree Andrews no longer walks to class alone. Students have been drawn to her after a situation that could have taken away this pretty smile.

“The kids in the audience were picking on Dee, So we all stepped forward,” said Chase Vazquez, Lincoln Middle School basketball player.

Andrews has Down syndrome. These three boys were in the middle of a game when they heard something upsetting directed at one of their cheerleaders, a girl who dances to her own beat. (Read more from “Basketball Players Defend Handicapped Cheerleader Targeted by Bully” HERE)

Parents Outraged After Disgusting Poem Read to Class About Homosexual Acts

Students in one class at South Windsor High School were subjected to a poem that their superintendent and some parents call “highly inappropriate” material. The poem contains language that describes sexual acts.

The teacher, whose name has not been released, read the Allen Ginsberg poem “Please Master” aloud in an English class for high school students. That poem was written in 1968. He had another poem banned in the 1950s for obscenity. Parents were shocked when they heard and read the material for themselves.

“I don’t understand how that actually got into a high school class,” said one parent who wanted to remain anonymous. “I can understand parents being really upset about it” . . .

Two excerpts from the poem include the lines: “please master can I gently take down your shorts,” and “please master can I have your thighs bare to my eyes” . . . (Read more about the disgusting poem HERE)

Teacher Kicks, Slaps and Berates First Grader for Insane Reason

A first-grade teacher in St. Francisville resigned this week amid an investigation into allegations she berated, kicked and slapped a student during a lunch break at Bains Lower Elementary School.

West Feliciana Parish sheriff’s deputies issued an arrest warrant for the teacher, Chanel M. Lemelle, on Thursday on a count of cruelty to juveniles after a number of people told deputies that Lemelle struck the student inside the school’s cafeteria on Jan. 23. The incident also was captured by surveillance cameras . . .

A sheriff’s deputy who reviewed camera footage of the incident wrote in a report that as the student walked by Chanel Lemelle in the cafeteria, she could be seen kicking him in the rear. The video also showed her slapping the boy on the back of the head, the deputy wrote . . .

Witnesses told the investigator that Chanel Lemelle forced the student to sit at a lunch table by himself while his classmates went through the food line in the cafeteria. After all his classmates got food, Chanel Lemelle allowed the student to get food, the witnesses said.

But when the student returned, Chanel Lemelle allegedly took one of his tacos and told the student “he only needed one taco,” a deputy wrote in the report. (Read more from “Teacher Assaults, Berates First Grader” HERE)

Watch: Disgusting Acts by UPS Worker Caught on Camera

It’s behavior you would never expect from a UPS worker and it’s all caught on camera.

The worker dumps the packages he’s delivering and then decides to relieve himself.

“I don’t know how UPS trains their employees to go to the bathroom, but probably not someone’s yard,” said Ben Lucas, the homeowner.

Lucas watched the video over and over again.

“It’s not like the cameras are hidden, he did a quick look around,” said Lucas. (Read more about the UPS worker being caught on camera HERE)

Major Violation of Privacy: Students Ordered to Drop Pants After Feces Found on Gym Floor

By Jason Wheeler. In Gustine, population 457, what happens at the schoolhouse affects nearly everyone. And something happened Monday that is causing a big controversy in this small town.

“I felt uncomfortable, and I didn’t want to do it,” said 11-year-old Eliza Medina. “I felt like they violated my privacy.”

She was one of about two dozen elementary students who were rounded up in the small town 90 miles southwest of Fort Worth.

Eliza’s mother, Maria Medina, said boys were taken to one room, girls to another, and they were ordered “to pull down their pants to check them to see if they could find anything.”

Eliza’s mom explained that educators “have been finding poop on the gym floor.” She can imagine the frustration, but said even for feces on the floor you don’t partially strip search a group of students to find the culprit. (Read more from this story HERE)

Christian School Shut Down for “Bigoted” Views on Muslims; Outspoken Vanderbilt Professor Targeted by Muslims

By Eleanor Harding and Mario Ledwith. Pupils at a Christian school have been branded bigots after a young boy gave the wrong answer when asked what a Muslim was.

Durham Free has been told to close after inspectors branded it an educational failure and said some children displayed ‘discriminatory views’ toward people of other faiths. The boy’s answer to the Muslim question apparently included a reference to terrorism.

But teachers said the verdict was grossly unfair and based on a throwaway and ignorant comment made by a single pupil. They said the school’s Christian ethos made it an easy target for officials who wanted to show they were promoting the Government’s diversity agenda.

A second Christian school in the area has been put into special measures. Inspectors also concluded its children were intolerant after allegedly asking ten-year-old pupils what lesbians ‘did’.

Teachers at Grindon Hall Christian School in Sunderland said the critical Ofsted report came as a shock because it was performing well. (Read more about the Christian school shut down HERE)

Muslims Target Black Vanderbilt Professor

By Eric Owens. A black Vanderbilt University professor’s op-ed critical of Islamic terrorism has touched off a wave of protest by Muslim students and other critics.

The op-ed author is Carol Swain, a longtime professor of law and political science at Vanderbilt and a self-proclaimed political conservative. Her op-ed, entitled “Charlie Hebdo attacks prove critics were right about Islam,” appeared in The Tennessean (Nashville’s main newspaper) on Jan. 15.

Swain, who opposes burqas and advocates stronger efforts at assimilation for American Muslims, argued that radical Islam “poses an absolute danger to us and our children unless it is monitored better than it has been under the Obama administration.”

In response, Muslim students, led by Vanderbilt undergraduate Farishtay Yamin, took great offense.

Yamin told The Vanderbilt Hustler, the campus newspaper, that she “could not believe her eyes” when she read Swain’s column. The student also quickly labeled Swain’s opinion as “hate speech.” (Read more from this story HERE)
