Former Taliban Hostage Rushed to Hospital

The American woman who was held captive by a Taliban-affiliated group in Afghanistan and rescued last week by Pakistani troops was rushed to the hospital on Monday for an unspecified reason, her Canadian husband said.

Joshua Boyle told the Associated Press in an email Tuesday that his wife, Caitlan Coleman, “has been through hell, and she has to be my first priority right now.”

Coleman, 32, was seven months pregnant when she and her husband, Josh Boyle, were abducted in Afghanistan in 2012 by the Haqqani network. The couple and their three children — all of whom were born in captivity — were freed Thursday in a “negotiated release,” an official told Fox News. Taliban Hostage’s Ex-Wife Has Al-Qaida Ties, Once Justified 9/11

Former Taliban hostage and Canadian citizen Joshua Boyle’s ex-wife’s father and brother had deep connections to al-Qaida and Osama Bin-Laden.

Boyle’s ex-wife Zaynab Khadr is the daughter of Ahmed Said Khadr and brother of Omar Khadr. Her father Ahmed was a veteran of the Afghan war in the late 1980s against the Soviet Union and is thought to have been a founding member of the al-Qaida terrorist group. His son, Omar was captured by U.S. forces during a firefight and spent 10 years in Guantanamo bay.

Omar was infamously granted a multi-million dollar settlement from the Canadian government for his detention despite admitting to killing a U.S. soldier in combat.

Boyle was married to Zaynab for approximately one year. He and his current wife Caitlin Coleman along with their three children were rescued by Pakistani Security Forces from the Taliban after nearly 5 years of captivity Wednesday . . .

Of the 9/11 attackers she said, “I don’t think whoever did that really wanted to kill all these people, or to kill people who had nothing to do with anything. But he really wanted to hit the American government where it will hurt it,” adding: “I mean sometimes innocent people pay the price … The Iraqis who hated Saddam are being killed nowadays for I don’t know for what reason, although they hated Saddam and they probably had nothing against the states and they are still dying for it. Most of the time innocent people are paying the price.” (Read more from “Taliban Hostage’s Ex-Wife Has Al-Qaida Ties, Once Justified 9/11” HERE)

Killing of Taliban Leader in Pakistan Demonstrates Shift in US Strategy

U.S. officials say they are confident that a drone strike carried out in Pakistan’s Baluchistan province on Saturday killed top Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Mansour.

The strike is a bold move by the U.S. that represents a long overdue shift in strategy toward the Taliban.

Over the last year the U.S. has focused its diplomatic attention on pursuing peace talks with the Taliban. Hopes were raised last summer when Pakistan played host to face-to-face talks between the Afghan government and Taliban officials in early July.

However, weeks later just before a second round of talks was scheduled to be held, reports surfaced that Taliban Supreme leader Mullah Omar had died two years previously, causing disarray within the Taliban movement.

Pakistan helped install Akhtar Mansour as Mullah Omar’s successor, although Mansour initially had trouble consolidating his control over the group. Pakistan also helped engineer the placement of Sirajuddin Haqqani as Mansour’s deputy, thus cementing ties between the Taliban and the deadly Haqqani network, responsible for some of the fiercest attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.

Over the last eighteen months, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has gone out of his way to try to reach out to Pakistan to encourage it to use its influence to bring the Taliban to the peace table.

However, escalating Taliban violence in the country, which culminated in a major truck bombing that killed nearly 65 people in Kabul on April 19th, prompted Ghani to shift his strategy.

Ghani told a joint session of the Afghan parliament on April 25th that pursuing peace through negotiations with the Taliban was no longer a priority, and that Afghan security forces would destroy the “terrorists” through relentless air and ground operations.

The killing of Akhtar Mansour on Pakistani territory shows the U.S. also is making welcome changes to its Afghan strategy. It is unlikely the U.S. coordinated the drone strike with Pakistani officials, given Pakistan’s close links with Mansour. Pakistan has not yet officially responded to the strike, which almost certainly came as a major surprise.

The U.S. has sought to take advantage of possible openings for a Taliban reconciliation process but the wildcard has always been whether Pakistan would be willing to pressure Taliban leaders that shelter on its territory.

Without Pakistani willingness to crack down on Taliban elements on its side of the border, there is little reason to believe a reconciliation process is possible.

Only when the Taliban are under military pressure in both Afghanistan and Pakistan will there be any realistic hope for a peace settlement.

U.S.-Pakistan relations have recently soured over U.S. Congressional moves to block U.S. funding for additional F-16 aircraft for Pakistan and to enforce conditions on other U.S. military aid because of Pakistan’s failure to crack down on the Haqqani network.

The killing of the Taliban Supremo on Pakistani territory is likely to deepen those tensions. (For more from the author of “Killing of Taliban Leader in Pakistan Demonstrates Shift in US Strategy” please click HERE)

Report: Obama Administration Tried to Recruit Taliban 5 to Work for US AFTER Their Release [+video]

A federal judge ruled in 2011 that Khairulla Said Wali Khairkhwa was too dangerous to be released from Gitmo.

Obama released him [along with the other Gitmo Five for traitor Bergdahl] anyway.

Now this . . .

The Obama administration tried to recruit the Taliban Five to work for the US government. Of course, this plan failed miserably. The former Gitmo detainees have 65 family members living with them in Qatar and have reached out to their old terror networks.

Mega Pop Star’s Ex-Boyfriend Killed by the Taliban

A hero pilot and former lover of Britney Spears, who helped her quit booze, has been killed by the Taliban in Afghanistan.

John Sundahl, 44, was shot down flying a helicopter from the capital Kabul where he had been working for several months as a private contractor ferrying officials across the war-torn country.

His devastated brother Karl said: “It’s heartbreaking – John went there to try to repair the country.

“He was trying to help people, he would often say that the country was in chaos.”

Britney, 33, dated John in 2007 after they met at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in Los Angeles and she has credited him with helping her beat her drink problems. (Read more about the mega pop star’s boyfriend being slain by the Taliban HERE)

Pakistani Taliban Declare Allegiance to Islamic State and Global Jihad

Photo Credit: REUTERS / STRINGERBY SAUD MEHSUD AND MARIA GOLOVNINA.

The Pakistani Taliban declared allegiance to Islamic State on Saturday and ordered militants across the region to help the Middle Eastern jihadist group in its campaign to set up a global Islamic caliphate.

Islamic State, which controls swathes of land in Syria and Iraq, has been making inroads into South Asia, which has traditionally been dominated by local Taliban insurgencies against both the Pakistan and Afghanistan governments.

The announcement comes after a September move by al Qaeda chief, Ayman al-Zawahri, to name former Taliban commander Asim Umar as the “emir” of a new South Asia branch of the network that masterminded the 2001 attacks on the United States.

Although there is little evidence of a firm alliance yet between IS and al Qaeda-linked Taliban commanders, IS activists have been spotted recently in the Pakistani city of Peshawar distributing pamphlets praising the group.

IS flags have also been seen at street rallies in Indian-administered Kashmir. The trend has been of growing concern to global powers struggling to keep up with the fast-changing nature of the international Islamist insurgency.

Photo Credit: AP / Hani MohammedShiite rebels are Yemen’s new masters

By HAMZA HENDAWI.

The capital of Yemen, the Arab world’s poorest and perhaps most chronically unstable nation, has new masters. Anti-American Shiite rebels man checkpoints and roam the streets in pickups mounted with anti-aircraft guns. The fighters control almost all state buildings, from the airport and the central bank to the Defense Ministry.

Only a few police officers and soldiers are left on the streets. Rebel fighters have plastered the city with fliers proclaiming their slogan — “Death to America, death to Israel, a curse on the Jews and victory to Islam” — a variation of a popular Iranian slogan often chanted by Shiite militants in Iraq and supporters of Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

While the world has been focused on the fight against Islamic State militants in Syria and Iraq, Yemen — located at the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula — has seen its own sudden, seismic upheaval when Shiite rebels known as the Houthis overran Sanaa two weeks ago.

Now the Houthis, who many believe are backed by Shiite-led Iran, are poised to become Yemen’s version of the Shiite Hezbollah in Lebanon — top powerbrokers dominating the government and running a virtual state-within-a-state.

Their takeover of the capital also threatens to bring a violent backlash from hard-line Sunnis, creating a sectarian battle that would boost al-Qaida’s branch in Yemen, which the United States has been battling for years in a drone campaign and in coordination with the Yemeni military. The rallying cry of fighting against Shiite power could turn Yemen into a magnet for Sunni jihadis from around the region, like Syria and Iraq.

Hagel Admits Obama Ignored Law in Taliban Release

Photo Credit: APDefense Secretary Chuck Hagel admitted that “the trust has been broken” between the White House and Congress following the Obama administration’s decision to skirt U.S. law and release five top Taliban leaders without first consulting with lawmakers.

Hagel admitted to lawmakers on the House Armed Services Committee Wednesday that the administration unilaterally inked a deal with the Taliban to release five top prisoners from the Guantanamo Bay prison camp without first notifying Congress, as is legally mandated.

The deal was signed “without providing 30 days notice to Congress,” as is required by law, Hagel told lawmakers before attempting to justify the administration’s decision to ignore this law.

The White House’s decision to skirt this law has prompted the House Armed Services Committee to launch a full investigation into the matter, lawmakers revealed on Wednesday.

When asked directly by Rep. Jeff Miller (R., Fla.) if the Obama administration had complied with the law as written, Hagel responded, “No.”

Dem Rep Compares Taliban to Soldiers in American Revolution

Photo Credit: isafmediaA Democratic congressman offered a curious analogy on Monday to explain why the U.S. is dealing with the Taliban — apparently comparing them to soldiers in the American Revolution.

According to sources, Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., made the comparison during a House briefing late Monday with administration officials on the trade of Taliban members for American Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.

Nadler apparently made the point that the Taliban, as non-state actors, have a status similar to that of American soldiers who fought the British during the Revolutionary War.

This comparison, Fox News is told, was met with a lot of groaning by other lawmakers.

Obama Submits To Taliban, Allows Praise For Allah, Releases ‘High Risk’ Terror Suspects

Photo Credit: AFP / Getty Images / Jim WatsonBy Neil Munro.

President Barack Obama apparently traded five jailed jihadis held in Guantanamo for one American soldier, despite federal law, which requires Congress to be notified before prisoners are transferred.

Obama used a Rose Garden press event to tout the surprise trade — which he won by making critical, last-minute concessions — while the parents of the freed soldier, Bowe Bergdahl, stood alongside.

At the end of brief event, the soldier’s father, Bob Bergdahl, recited the most frequent phrase in the Koran — “Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim” —which means “In the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Compassionate.”

After Bergdahl finished his statement and his praise for Allah, Obama hugged him.

The Taliban echoed Bergdahl, saying the trade happened “due to the benevolence of Allah Almighty and the sacrifices of the heroic and courageous Mujahidin of the Islamic Emirate.”

CNN’s Candy Crowley Grills Susan Rice: ‘Point Blank, Did The US Negotiate With Terrorists?’

By Brendan Bordelon.

CNN host Candy Crowley pressed White House national security adviser Susan Rice on the Taliban prisoner swap conducted Saturday, asking “point blank, did the US negotiate with terrorists” in violation of its long-held policy?

Crowley spoke with Rice on Sunday about the exchange of five high-ranking Taliban detainees — two of which are accused of the mass murder of religious minorities in Afghanistan — for Army Sgt. Bowe Berghdahl, whom many claim was captured after deserting his post and walking into the Afghan wilderness in 2009.

Berghdahl was captured by the Haqqani network, a close ally of the Taliban and an acknowledged terrorist organization according to the State Department.

Bravo-Foxtrot-Oscar: Taliban will resurge after US drawdown

Photo Credit: allenbwestLast week, the Pentagon issued a report based on an independent study on the future of Afghanistan. As reported in the Washington Free Beacon, the Taliban will resurge in Afghanistan following the drawdown of U.S. and allied troops in Afghanistan later this year.

That is what I call a Bravo-Foxtrot-Oscar (Blinding Flash of the Obvious).

The report says the Taliban are expected to regenerate their capabilities in sanctuaries in Pakistan as military pressure on them declines. Over the next three years, the Taliban will expand control and influence in areas left undefended by U.S. and allied troops. They also are expected to “encircle key cities and conduct high-profile attacks.

This is truly dire news for President Obama and his proposed “zero option” force posture for Afghanistan – how’s that working out for Iraq? It seems former SecDef Gates’ assessment of Obama is true: his heart is not in it.

No wonder Karzai is letting Taliban prisoners go free.
