Senator Ted Cruz spoke to over 3,500 people in Denver this weekend and proposed a two-birds-with-one-stone solution to tax reform and border security.

“The simplest road to tax reform is to abolish the IRS and move to simple flat tax (sic),” said Cruz.

As for what to do with 110,000 out of work IRS agents, Cruz said “we can always put them on our southern border. Seeing so many IRS agents would scare off anyone who wanted to come to America,” he told the crowd.

Ted Cruz’s father sparks revival spirit during tea party rally

By Brian Wilson.

The father of conservative firebrand U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz roused a crowd of tea party supporters with stories of his journey to the United States and his call for constitutional conservatism.

Rafael Cruz, pastor of Purifying Fire Ministries in suburban Dallas, received multiple standing ovations throughout his speech, delivered at a We the People rally organized by the Nashville Tea Party at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel on Saturday afternoon.

The Cuban native spent much of his lecture analyzing the merits of Declaration of Independence and accusing the federal government of straying from it. He also said how his beliefs are inspired by the same wellsprings as his son, the Texas senator who has enthused some conservatives enough to call on him to run for president.

“That passion has been like fire in him, and let me tell you, that fire has been as alive 32 years ago as it is today,” Cruz said. “That’s why I know he’s not going to compromise in Washington.”

Ted Cruz Questions Whether Obama 'Launched An Economic Boycott Of Israel'

Freshman firebrand Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) questioned on Wednesday whether President Barack Obama has effectively “launched an economic boycott of Israel,” after the Federal Aviation Agency’s decision to bar all flights into and out of Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport for the past two days.

The Obama administration forcefully shot back at the charge, with State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf calling it “ridiculous and offensive.” She rejected any assertion the FAA’s move was at all politically motivated, saying it was only done to protect American citizens and carriers.

For its part, Cruz’s office released a lengthy statement on his behalf, blasting it out to reporters with the subject line, “Did President Obama Just Launch an Economic Boycott of Israel?” He claimed, as some in the Israeli government have over the past two days, that it effectively hands the Palestinian Islamist militant group Hamas a victory.

“Aiding Hamas while simultaneously isolating Israel does two things. One, it helps our enemy. Two, it hurts our ally,” Cruz said in the statement.

Boom: Harry Reid Tried To Silence Ted Cruz And It Completely Backfired In His Face

A Senate debate between pro-amnesty Democrats and Republicans who favor a secure border continued Thursday when Majority Leader Harry Reid trashed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s latest proposal.

The Texas Republican is pushing a bill that would end the de facto amnesty Barack Obama extended in 2012 to illegals who arrived in the U.S. as minors.

While Obama’s unilateral move resulted in deferred action in the case of illegals under a certain age who crossed the border as a child and maintained certain requirements while living in the U.S., Cruz contended that this policy has attracted the tens of thousands of Central American minors currently flooding the Mexican border.

In his response, Reid suggested that the executive order automatically legitimized these illegals, making them impervious to deportation efforts.

Cruz Watch: Senator Calls Democratic Bill a ‘Manifestation of a War on Women’

Photo Credit: APSen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, ripped into Senate Democrats during a hearing Tuesday for considering a bill that would combat state regulation of abortion services.

The sweeping legislation, called the Women’s Health Protection Act, would prohibit states from passing laws that limit access to legal abortion services if they are “more burdensome than those restrictions imposed on medically comparable procedures.”

Cruz called the proposal “extreme legislation.”

“It is legislation designed to force a radical view from Democrats in the Senate that abortion should be universally available, common, without limit and paid for by the taxpayer,” Cruz said. “And it is also a very real manifestation of a war on women, given the enormous health consequences that unlimited abortion has had damaging the health and sometimes even the lives of women.”

The bill, introduced last November, would provide legal grounds for challenging existing state laws that regulate abortion services. More than 200 laws that restrict access to an abortion went into effect in states across the country from 2011 to 2013, according to the New York-based Guttmacher Institute, which tracks state abortion-related regulations.

Harry Reid May Prevent Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, and Rand Paul from Offering Meaningful, Pro-Gun Amendments to Do-Nothing Bill

Photo Credit: United Liberty The Senate is expected to, perhaps as early as today, take up the Bipartisan Sportsmen’s Act (S. 2363), a measure that would expand recreational hunting on federal lands. While the bill is being touted by supporters as pro-Second Amendment, it’s basically an election year gimmick to help vulnerable Red State Democrats.

While the Sportsmen’s Act has strong Republican support, the measure was introduced in May by Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) and its cosponsored by several Democrats up for reelection this year, including Sens. Mark Begich (D-AK), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Mark Pryor (D-AR), Mark Udall (D-CO), and John Walsh (D-MT).

“In North Carolina, hunting, fishing and shooting are a way of life,” Hagan said, according to The Hill. “Many of these traditions have been handed down through my own family, and I’m proud that our bill protects these activities for future generations while ensuring that outdoor recreation can continue to support jobs and local economies across the country.”

Impeach Holder if He Won’t Appoint IRS Special Prosecutor

Photo Credit: YouTubeAttorney General Eric Holder should be impeached if he refuses to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the IRS tea party-targeting scandal, Sen. Ted Cruz demanded Thursday.

The Texas Republican, who has sounded the call for a special prosecutor in the scandal before, made his case for possible impeachment on the Senate floor, ripping into Holder for not standing up to President Barack Obama.

“It saddens me to say that the U.S. Department of Justice under Attorney General Eric Holder has become the most partisan Department of Justice in the history of our country,” Cruz said, blasting its lead investigator on the IRS issue, Barbara Bosserman, as a “partisan” donor who gave over $6,000 to the president’s two election campaigns. He also noted IRS Commissioner John Koskinen has contributed over $100,000 to Democrats.

SCOTUS Unanimously Strikes Down Obama’s Executive Overreach for the 11th Time

Photo Credit: APU.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, today released the following statement lauding the Supreme Court for protecting privacy rights in the decision Riley v. California.

“I applaud the Supreme Court’s unanimous decision to protect the rights of all Americans to be free from warrantless searches of their cell phones,” said Sen. Cruz. “This is the eleventh time since January 2012 that the Supreme Court has unanimously rejected the Obama Administration’s arguments for greater governmental power…”

Sen. Cruz Files S. 2510 to Prohibit Guantanamo Transfers Until Administration Justifies Release of ‘Taliban 5’

Photo Credit: APU.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, with original co-sponsors Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-New Hampshire, and Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kansas, has filed legislation to temporarily halt further transfers or releases for detainees at Guantanamo Bay. Following the controversial prisoner swap the Obama Administration made earlier this month, resulting in the release of the Taliban 5 terrorists, further releases should be off the table until President Obama can explain how this swap was in the United States’ national security interests.

“Americans need to know how the Obama Administration thinks it has made our nation safer by negotiating with terrorists to release these five dangerous terrorist leaders,” Sen. Cruz said. “Until President Obama can make his case and convince the American public that this swap was in our national interest, prudence dictates that all further transfers and releases from Guantanamo Bay should be off the table.”

“With 29 percent of former Guantanamo detainees returning or being suspected of returning, to terrorism, the administration should not release or transfer Guantanamo detainees who could potentially return to the battlefield. The security of the American people, not a political promise to close Guantanamo Bay, should guide decisions regarding detainees,” said Sen. Ayotte. “Our common sense legislation would suspend the transfer of Guantanamo detainees to other countries until Congress can get more answers regarding the recent transfer of the Taliban Five. We need to better understand the risks associated with this transfer—including the likelihood they will return to terrorism and whether this transfer will encourage the Taliban and terrorist groups around the world to capture U.S. personnel in order to obtain concessions from our country.”

“The dangerous terrorists housed at Guantanamo Bay pose the same serious threat they always have,” Sen. Roberts said. “For this President to release five of the worst al Qaeda affiliates at the same time that terrorists are taking charge in Iraq is a dangerous game I am not willing to play. I don’t know why the President does not feel the same desire to protect our national security.”

Ted Cruz Joins Demonstrators in Front of White House; Calls on Obama to Help Imprisoned Sudanese Christian Woman

Photo Credit: The Christian Post / Sonny HongA group of demonstrators representing over 40 different organizations gathered outside the White House to demand that Meriam Ibrahim, a Sudanese Christian woman sentenced to death for apostasy in Sudan, be freed.

Dozens of protesters, including U.S. Congressman Trent Franks of Arizona and U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, stood outside 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. on a warm overcast Thursday morning to demand the freeing of Ibrahim.

In an interview with The Christian Post, Senator Cruz said that the effort to free Meriam Ibrahim was part of a grander need for the United States to address international religious liberty.

“There are assaults on religious liberty across the globe and Christians in particular are being persecuted across the globe,” said Cruz, who called the Ibrahim episode “startling.”

“We need far more leadership speaking out for religious liberty of everyone. And especially for Christians who are being targeted.”
