Democrat Under Investigation for Pulling Fire Alarm to Delay Vote to Avoid Gov’t Shutdown

By Breitbart. Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) ripped down two signs warning a second floor door in the Cannon House Office Building was for emergency use only before pulling the fire alarm and running out through a different door on a different floor, Breitbart News has learned exclusively.

Multiple sources familiar with the investigation into Bowman pulling the fire alarm in the House, which triggered a full scale law enforcement and emergency services response leading to the evacuation of the building, told Breitbart News exclusively that Bowman ripped two signs down and threw then on the ground first.

The sources familiar with the investigation provided Breitbart News with photographs of the scene of the alleged crime later after the emergency door had been restored after the damage Bowman did to it.

In the photos of the double doors with glass windows, there are clearly two giant red signs on the door—they both say “EMERGENCY EXIT ONLY—PUSH UNTIL ALARM SOUNDS (3 SECONDS) DOOR WILL UNLOCK IN 30 SECONDS.”

There is also another sign on a stand in front of the door that makes it clear this is an “EMERGENCY EXIT ONLY.” (Read more from “Democrat Under Investigation for Pulling Fire Alarm to Delay Vote to Avoid Gov’t Shutdown” HERE)

NY Democrat Sets off Fire Alarm During Shutdown Talks

By Bloomberg. A fire alarm went off in a Capitol Hill building Saturday, adding to the tension as US lawmakers worked to hash out a last-minute deal to avoid a government shutdown.

Representative Jamaal Bowman, a Democrat from New York, is accused of pulling a fire alarm in the Cannon House Office Building, where some members of Congress have their offices. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said he would seek an ethics investigation into the incident, which Bowman said was a “mistake.”

“This should not go without punishment,” McCarthy told reporters.

Bowman told reporters he had been trying to open a door. “It was a mistake. That’s all it was,” he said. “McCarthy is trying to weaponize an innocent mistake.”

“I want to be very clear, this was not me, in any way, trying to delay any vote,” Bowman said in a statement late Saturday. “It was the exact opposite — I was trying urgently to get to a vote, which I ultimately did and joined my colleagues in a bipartisan effort to keep our government open.” (Read more from “NY Democrat Sets off Fire Alarm During Shutdown Talks” HERE)

‘Planned in Plain Sight’: Senate Committee Lawmakers Blame DHS, FBI for January 6 Security Failures

Senators from the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee became the latest on Tuesday to report U.S. Capitol security failures on January 6, alleging that federal law enforcement agencies had downplayed numerous tips threatening violence ahead of the 2020 presidential election certification.

In a 106-page report by the committee titled “Planned in Plain Sight,” a majority of the staff said the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) were aware of online posts — as early as December 2020 — that posed threats to Capitol Hill that day, yet failed to sound the alarm with other law enforcement.

“My report shows there was a shocking failure of imagination from these intelligence agencies to take these threats seriously, and there is no question that their failures to effectively analyze and share the threat information contributed to the failures to prevent and respond to the horrific attack that unfolded at the Capitol,” committee Chairman Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) said in a news release.

The report comes over two and a half years after the event that involved approximately 2,000 people, some of whom overturned barricades, clashed with police, and stormed the Capitol in an attempt to stop the January 2021 transfer of presidential power.

Officials estimate about 800 people out of the massive crowd breached the Capitol grounds and building, leaving more than 1,000 people charged with crimes linked to the event — including Proud Boys and Oath Keepers members. GOP Congressman, 80 Pastors Sing ‘Amazing Grace’ in Capitol Rotunda

A Republican congressman, 80 pastors and their spouses delivered a soulful rendition of “Amazing Grace” in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda while on a tour.

Rep. Mike Johnson, R-La., led a Christian history tour of the Capitol Tuesday night that was made up of 80 pastors and their spouses from 16 states, as well as several current and former lawmakers.

While in the Capitol Rotunda, the group belted out their praise for the Almighty above in a moving rendition of the classic Christian hymn that reverberated throughout the dome.

“I always enjoy taking friends and visitors through these hallowed halls, and it was a privilege to take this group of faith leaders on a special tour of the Capitol last night,” Johnson told Fox News Digital.

“They were greatly encouraged to see and be reminded of the religious and moral foundations of our country,” the Louisiana Republican continued. “In these times of great division, all Americans would do well to be reminded of those truths and that important heritage.” (Read more from “GOP Congressman, 80 Pastors Sing ‘Amazing Grace’ in Capitol Rotunda” HERE)

Marjorie Taylor Greene Says MAGA Would’ve Won on Jan. 6 if She Organized It

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican, suggested that the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot would have succeeded if she was in charge.

Greene was among the high-profile guests to attend and speak at an event hosted by the New York Young Republican Club in New York City on Saturday evening. Others in attendance included former President Donald Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr., Rudy Giuliani, and commentator Jack Posobiec.

During her address at the event, Greene touched on the Capitol riot, a subject she has been consistently outspoken on, and said that rioters would have been successful had she and former Trump adviser Steve Bannon been in charge of them, according to the New York Post.

“I want to tell you something, if Steve Bannon and I had organized that, we would have won,” the congresswoman said. “Not to mention, we would’ve been armed.”

New Capitol Police Job Listing Sets off Alarms

A new listing on a federal government job board is raising constitutional questions, as Capitol Police are looking to hire their own prosecutors.

The listing for an attorney position, posted July 29 on USAJobs.gov, says in the description that the employee would “serve as a Special Assistant United States Attorney” in the Capitol Police’s District Offices. The salary is between $145,094 and $186,368 per year.

“This position is to represent the United States Government primarily prosecuting individuals and/or groups who have engaged in threats and/or acts of violence against Members of Congress, their staffs, United States Capitol Police employees, visitors to the Capitol complex, and facilities and properties within the Capitol Complex,” the listing says.

Notably, the agency listed for the prosecutor’s job is the Capitol Police, not the Department of Justice. Therein lies the problem, according to Mike Davis, founder of the Article 3 Project.

“It is constitutionally wrong to have prosecutors report to law enforcement. It should be the other way around,” Davis said. (Read more from “New Capitol Police Job Listing Sets off Alarms” HERE)

While Distracted Spying on Congress, Capitol Police Orders Useless Capitol Evacuation

The U.S. Capitol Police ordered an immediate evacuation of the Capitol grounds early Wednesday evening over an aircraft that posed a “probable threat” to the complex. Within a half hour, the threat turned out to be bureaucratic incompetence.

“The Capitol was evacuated out of an abundance of caution this evening,” the department wrote on Twitter.

The aircraft provoking the brief evacuation turned out to be an Army parachute team for Wednesday’s baseball game at Nationals Park for Military Appreciation Day. Washington Examiner National Security Reporter Tom Rogan found the aircraft on radar moments after the Capitol alert. Add a quick online search, and it became clear the plane was connected to the local sporting event honoring service members.

Congressman, Others Attacked by Fox Near Capitol Hill

Animal control officers captured a wild fox Tuesday afternoon after US Capitol Police said that multiple people were followed or attacked by the beast near the chambers of Congress.

Photos of the red fox in a cage were posted to Twitter by Capitol Police shortly after Rep. Ami Bera (D-Calif.) told reporters that he was bitten Monday night outside the Senate.

“I didn’t see it and all of a sudden I felt something lunge at the back of my leg,” Bera said, according to PunchBowl News editor Heather Caygle. “I jumped and got my umbrella.”

Earlier Tuesday, the House Sergeant-at-Arms alerted lawmakers that Capitol Police received three reports of “individuals being attacked or bitten by a fox” after sightings amused congressional aides and journalists.

One fox encounter, which was not described in detail, occurred Monday outside the US Botanic Garden at the base of the Capitol. A second incident was reported later in the day on the southern side of the Capitol, the House office said. (Read more from “Congressman, Others Attacked by Fox Near Capitol Hill” HERE)

Democrats Who Won’t Build Border Wall Build Border Fence Around US Capitol (VIDEO)

After years of opposition to a southern border wall and even a government shutdown to prevent one, congressional Democrats have become fond of physical barriers on their own doorstep as they deprive Americans of the same protection.

On Sunday, the U.S. Capitol Police confirmed that the same perimeter fencing that surrounded the complex months after last year’s Jan. 6 riot would be restored ahead of President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday.

“Out of an abundance of caution, and in conjunction with the United States Secret Service, a plan has been approved to put up the inner-perimeter fence around the Capitol building for the State of the Union Address,” said Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger in a press release. “I have also requested support from outside law enforcement agencies as well as the National Guard to assist with our security precautions.”

The fencing was up in 2021 from January through July. It was last installed ahead of a rally for Jan. 6 defendants in September. The barrier’s resurrection comes as Washington, D.C., braces for a U.S. version of the Canadian trucker convoy in peaceful protest of dystopian coronavirus measures. Vehicles are expected to arrive in the capital throughout the week.

Democrats Quietly Explore Barring Trump From Office Over Jan. 6

In the year since the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, a handful of Democrats, constitutional scholars and pro-democracy advocates have been quietly exploring how a post-Civil War amendment to the Constitution might be used to disqualify former President Trump from holding office again.

Calls for Congress to take steps to strip Trump of his eligibility, which reached a crescendo in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 riot, have since decreased. But those who remain engaged on the issue say discussions about applying Section 3 of the 14th Amendment have been ongoing.

“If anything, the idea has waxed and waned,” said Laurence Tribe, a constitutional expert at Harvard Law School. “I hear it being raised with considerable frequency these days both by media commentators and by members of Congress and their staffs, some of whom have sought my advice on how to implement Section 3.”

An analysis by The Hill found that around a dozen Democratic lawmakers have spoken either publicly or privately over the last year about how Section 3 of the 14th Amendment might apply to those who engaged in insurrection on Jan. 6.

Among those whose offices have spoken recently with Tribe are Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), who sits on the Jan. 6 House Select Committee; Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), who chairs the powerful House Judiciary Committee; and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.). Two Capitol Protesters Sentenced to 45 Days in Jail on Misdemeanor Charges

A federal judge on Wednesday sentenced two men to 45 days in jail for misdemeanor charges over their participation in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Derek Jancart, an Air Force veteran, and Erik Rau both pleaded guilty to one count of disorderly conduct in the Capitol, which carries a maximum sentence of six months in jail.

Prosecutors had asked U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg, an Obama appointee, to sentence both defendants to four months in jail, arguing that while neither was accused of committing any violence or destruction during the riot, they had encouraged it on Jan. 6 and showed a lack of remorse in the immediate aftermath of the insurrection.

Boasberg said during a hearing on Wednesday the factors for each defendant necessitated a lighter sentence but acknowledged that all of the charges “related to the January 6 insurrection are serious.”

“You attempted with others to undermine one of our country’s bedrock acts, which is the peaceful transfer of power following a democratic election,” the judge said during Jancart’s sentencing. (Read more from “Two Capitol Protesters Sentenced to 45 Days in Jail on Misdemeanor Charges” HERE)
