BOMBSHELL: Man Arrested at Media-Hyped ‘Justice for J6’ Rally Was Actually Federal Agent; Trump Jr. Mocks ‘Undercover Feds’ at Rally

By The Blaze. The media-hyped “Justice for J6” rally was promised to be the sequel to the Jan. 6 riot at Capitol Hill. With a massive police presence, many of whom were dressed in full riot gear, and the Capitol barricaded, the rally turned out to be a complete dud.

There was, however, one arrest of a man who was found to be in possession of a firearm. But it turned out that man was a federal agent.

The man who was arrested is a 27-year-old U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent from New Jersey. He was taken into custody after people at the rally reported seeing him with a firearm.

The United States Capitol Police initially said the man was being charged with violating 40 U.S. Code § 5104 for carrying a firearm on federal property where it is illegal to possess a firearm.

However, the U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C., said prosecutors were “not moving forward with charges,” the Associated Press reported. The office did not provide additional details. (Read more from “BOMBSHELL: Man Arrested at Media-Hyped ‘Justice for J6’ Rally Was Actually Federal Agent” HERE)

Trump Jr. Mocks ‘Undercover Feds’ at Rally

By Business Insider. Donald Trump Jr. retweeted an image of a group of men attending the rally, dressed in shorts and sunglasses, and suggested they were undercover feds.

The “Justice for J6” rally, organized in support of more than 600 people arrested in relation to the Capitol riot, was sparsely attended but had a significant media and police presence.

In a series of tweets, Donald Trump Jr. mocked what he claimed to be undercover law enforcement officials.

Donald Trump: Sept. 18 Rally Is a ‘Setup’; Only Handful Show, More Cops and National Guard Than Protesters

By The Federalist. In an exclusive interview with The Federalist on Thursday, former President Donald Trump called for Senate Republicans to fire Mitch McConnell and elect a new leader, unloaded on “radicalized” left-wing Democrats, blasted former President George W. Bush as “one of the worst presidents ever,” and criticized current President Joe Biden’s “grossly incompetent” handling of America’s withdrawal from Afghanistan. Trump also called the planned Sept. 18 rally at the U.S. Capitol a “setup” and said media would use it as an excuse to bash Republicans regardless of its outcome. . .

Trump also did not mince words when asked whether Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who has been the leader of Senate Republicans since 2007, should remain in that position going forward.

“I think Mitch McConnell has proven to be a disaster,” Trump said. “He’s not good for the Republican Party as a leader, and I wish I wouldn’t have endorsed him.” . . .

Trump also characterized the planned Sept. 18 rally at the U.S. Capitol as a “setup” meant to denigrate Republican voters regardless of what transpires.

“On Saturday, that’s a setup,” Trump said, referring to the rally. “If people don’t show up they’ll say, ‘Oh, it’s a lack of spirit.’ And if people do show up they’ll be harassed.” (Read more from “Donald Trump: Sept. 18 Rally Is a ‘Setup'” HERE)

Capitol Police Request National Guard Troops for September 18 Rally

By National Review. Capitol Police have requested a military presence in Washington, D.C., ahead of Saturday’s “Justice for J6” rally in support of people who were charged with crimes related to the Capitol riot.

The department told Reuters it had asked the Department of Defense “for the ability to receive National Guard support should the need arise on September 18.”

Pentagon press secretary John Kirby told reporters on Wednesday that the department has “received a request from the Capitol Police for some assistance for this weekend’s scheduled protest.”

He said Pentagon officials are considering the request, and “if it can be validated and supported, we’ll do that.” (Read more from “Capitol Police Request National Guard Troops for September 18 Rally” HERE)

More Cops and National Guard than Protesters

By Meredith Deliso. The “Justice for J6” rally was billed as a protest for defendants being detained in connection with the January insurrection at the Capitol.

At least 610 individuals have been federally charged for their involvement in the Jan. 6 riot at the United States Capitol, according to the Department of Justice. Most of the roughly 60 who remain behind bars are suspects prosecutors and judges have identified as posing a credible and ongoing threat to the public’s safety.

Many of the same far-right groups and individuals who promoted the original Jan. 6 rally-turned insurrection this time warned supporters to avoid the demonstration at all costs. Former President Donald Trump called it a “setup” but also released a statement supporting those charged.

With the House and Senate both out, no lawmakers were at the Capitol on Saturday. But preventative security measures were taken, including the reinstallation of temporary fencing around the Capitol complex. (read more about National Guard and police outnumbering protesters HERE)

Ashli Babbitt’s Widower to Shooter: ‘Suck It Up’

The widower of American veteran Ashli Babbitt, who was killed by a single gunshot from a police officer during the Jan. 6 vandalism at the U.S. Capital, told a broadcast audience he has little tolerance for complaints from the police officer that he’s gotten death threats since killing Babbitt.

“Suck it up,” Aaron Babbitt said to Capitol Police officer Michael Byrd, who also gave his first interview since the killing this week.

“I don’t even want to hear him talk about how he’s getting death threats and he’s scared,” Aaron Babbitt said during an interview on Fox News’s Tucker Carlson, according to a report in the Washington Examiner.

Aaron Babbitt cited his own experience since Byrd shot his wife, a 35-year-old Air Force veteran, who was killed when she became part of a crowd that broke windows and doors at the Capital to enter that day.

It happened when Congress was scheduled to – and did – adopt the electoral results that turned over the White House to Joe Biden. Those results raised enough questions that there were lawsuits in dozens of states, and there continue to be audits, or plans for them, in several states. Police Lieutenant Who Killed January 6 Capitol Protester Ashli Babbitt Finally Identified

For more than seven months, the U.S. Capitol Police officer who shot and killed Ashli Babbitt, an unarmed protester climbing through a broken window in a hallway of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, has remained anonymous.

Though his name was known to U.S. Capitol Police, congressional staffers and federal investigations, no one would divulge it. The secrecy fueled months of online speculation. . .

Roberts told Zenger Wednesday night that the shooter was “Lieutenant Michael Leroy Byrd.” . . .

Byrd is a controversial figure with a record of mishandling firearms, including once leaving a loaded pistol in a Congressional Visitor Center bathroom. Roberts said Byrd’s decision to fire his weapon on January 6 indicated his unfitness for duty. Capitol Police Investigate ‘Bomb Threat’

The United States Capitol Police were negotiating with a man who claimed to have a bomb in a pickup truck outside the Library of Congress on Thursday, prompting evacuations from government buildings in the area.

The man drove a black pickup onto the sidewalk of the Library of Congress at about 9:15 Thursday morning, and the police responded to a disturbance call, Chief J. Thomas Manger of the Capitol Police said in a news conference.

When the police arrived, the man said he had a bomb and one of the officers observed what appeared to be a detonator in his hand, Chief Manger said. (Read more from “Capitol Police Investigate ‘Bomb Threat’” HERE)

FBI Team Raided Home of Couple Over US Capitol Riots, Allegedly Held Child at Gunpoint

FBI agents allegedly held an 11-year-old girl at gunpoint during a raid at an Atlanta-area farm owned by a couple who reportedly have ties to a far-right militia group.

In an incident that is just now emerging in the media, 40 federal agents traveling in four armored vehicles showed up at Covington, Ga.-area home of Donnie and Annmarie Hyatt on the morning of August 10 with a search warrant apparently as part of the ongoing investigation into the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Donnie Hyatt told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that “‘They had my 11-year-old daughter at gunpoint’…He said his daughter had laser sights trained on her and ‘is pretty shaken’ by the experience. ‘She still shakes when she talks about it,’ he said.”

Donnie Hyatt and his wife attended the January 6 “stop the steal” rally in Washington D.C., but he says they did not enter the Capitol building and described the breach as a “really dumb decision.”

Instead, he claims he was monitoring what was going on with a police scanner. “I don’t even know anybody that knows anybody that went in,” he insisted. (Read more from “FBI Team Raided Home of Couple Over US Capitol Riots, Allegedly Held Child at Gunpoint” HERE)

In Leaked Interview, AOC Says She Thought She Faced Rape at Capitol Riot

Clips of a leaked CNN interview published by Project Veritas show Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez saying she thought she was going to be raped at the Capitol Riot.

In the video clip published by Project Veritas Tuesday, Ocasio-Cortez told CNN’s Dana Bash that she is a survivor of sexual assault, noting that she has not “told many people that.” Project Veritas’ source believed CNN would air the interview in August, spokesman Mario Balaban told the Daily Caller News Foundation. . .

“For a lot of [sexual assault] survivors across the country, the decision to come forward oftentimes does not feel like a conscious one,” Ocasio-Cortez told Bash, according to the video. “That impact was doubled that day because of the misogyny and the racism that was so deeply rooted and animated — that attack on the Capitol, you know, white supremacy and patriarchy are very linked in a lot of ways. There’s a lot of sexualizing of that violence.”

She continued: “And I didn’t think that I was just going to be killed. I thought other things were going to happen to me as well.

“It sounds like what you’re didn’t only think that you were going to die, you thought you were going to be raped,” Bash said in the interview. (Read more from “In Leaked Interview, AOC Says She Thought She Faced Rape at Capitol Riot” HERE)

In First Felony Sentence, Capitol Protester Receives Prison Time

A Florida man who breached the Senate floor on Jan. 6 while carrying a Trump flag was the first Capitol rioter sentenced with a felony offense.

Prosecutors are seeking a minimum 18-month sentence for Paul Allard Hodgkins. In a July 14 court filing, they alleged that he, “like each rioter, contributed to the collective threat to democracy” as they forced lawmakers, reporters, staff and Vice President Mike Pence into hiding as they convened to certify President Joe Biden’s victory.

He was sentenced to eight months in prison.

Video footage described in the report shows Hodgkins, 38, sporting a Trump T-shirt and flag on the Senate floor. At one point he took a selfie with the self-described shaman, who is also awaiting trial for participating in the riot. . .

Though Hodgkins was never accused of assaulting anyone or damaging property, prosecutors noted that when he boarded a bus from Tampa, Florida, to D.C. he had rope, protective goggles and latex gloves, and said that demonstrated that he was prepared for violence. FBI Still on Hunt for Suspects in Capitol Riot Despite More Than 500 Arrests

More than 500 people have been arrested for the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, as authorities search for more suspects six months later.

At least 165 of the 535 people arrested in connection with the attack have been charged with assault, but “some of the most violent offenders have yet to be identified,” said Steven M. D’Antuono, assistant director of the FBI Washington Field Office.

The FBI released new videos of what the agency says are “suspects in 11 of the most violent and horrifying assaults on federal officers” during the riot.

In one video, an officer is knocked to the ground as the outnumbered police attempt to quell the mob. In another, an officer can be seen struggling to hold onto a police baton as a person wearing a blue Trump flag as a cape tries to snatch it. . .

“As we mark six months since the violence at our nation’s Capitol, we continue to encourage the public to send tips to the FBI,” Mr. D’Antuono said in a statement. “As we have seen with dozens of cases so far, the tips matter.” (Read more from “FBI Still on Hunt for Suspects in Capitol Riot Despite More Than 500 Arrests” HERE)

Report: This Republican Might Be on Pelosi’s Jan. 6 Committee; House GOP Leaders Won’t Support Probe

By The Hill. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is “seriously considering” including a Republican among her appointments to the new select committee dedicated to investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection, an aide said Monday.

Under the resolution to create the panel, Pelosi would appoint eight members, while House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) would name five.

The House is expected to vote Wednesday on the resolution to create the panel, which is expected to pass largely along party lines and will be tasked with investigating “the facts, circumstances, and causes relating to the domestic terrorist attack on the Capitol.” . . .

The advantage for Pelosi to include a Republican among her picks would be to ensure that someone like Reps. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) or Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) would have a voice in the investigation and could lend some bipartisan credence to the panel.

Kinzinger and Cheney are among the handful of Republicans who have openly criticized their party leaders for promoting former President Trump’s false claims of election fraud and voted to impeach him for inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection. House GOP Leaders Won’t Support Probe of Jan. 6 Capitol Riot

By Associated Press. House Republican leaders say they will oppose the creation of a select committee to investigate the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol — and have so far declined to say whether they will even participate in the probe.

In a memo to all House Republicans late Tuesday, No. 2 House Republican Steve Scalise said the House panel “is likely to pursue a partisan agenda” in investigating the violent attack by former President Donald Trump’s supporters, and he encouraged Republicans to vote against it. A vote on a resolution that would create the panel is scheduled for Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, Scalise declined to say whether members of his party would even agree to sit on the committee, telling reporters at a news conference that “I can’t answer that question.” House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy also declined to say whether Republicans would participate. Judge Gives SC Man Affiliated With Proud Boys 28 Months in Prison for Making Threats

By Yahoo News. A federal judge Tuesday sentenced a Lexington County man who was at the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and was an affiliate of the Proud Boys to 28 months in prison for making interstate phone calls to threaten a former federal prosecutor.

Defendant James “Jimmy” Giannakos, 47, was not making “idle threats” when he made six menacing phone calls to Florida telephone numbers because the object of his threats, a former federal prosecutor, had been quoted in a nationally distributed news story about Proud Boys leader Enrique Torrio, said U.S. District Judge Terry Wooten during a two-hour morning hearing at the federal courthouse in Columbia.

“Anyone who heard these threats would be frightened and afraid,” Wooten told Giannakos just before he gave the defendant two years and four months in prison.

Earlier at the hearing, Assistant U.S. Attorney Elliott Daniels urged Wooten to give Giannakos a sentence at the upper range of the federal court guidelines of 24-30 months in prison. (Read more from “Judge Gives SC Man Affiliated With Proud Boys 28 Months in Prison for Making Threats” HERE)
