Pelosi Plans Announcement on Select Committee to Investigate Siege of Congress

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will announce this week whether she will create a select committee to investigate the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, her spokesman said.

The California Democrat told colleagues about her plans during a meeting of the House Steering and Policy Committee on Tuesday, which comes weeks after Senate Republicans blocked legislation that would have created a commission to dig into the attack on Congress.

Multiple news outlets reported the speaker revealed she would create the committee, which would not require GOP support. But Drew Hammill, Pelosi’s deputy chief of staff, quickly tweeted a denial. Hillary Clinton Lies About What Happened on January 6

…Senate Republicans successfully filibustered a bill which would create a commission to study the events of January 6, in a 54-35 vote. That the left would be unhappy isn’t surprising, but it really is unhelpful for leading figures like Hillary Clinton to use her platform to lie about what happened that day.

Clinton is talking about Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick who died on January 7, the day after the riot at the Capitol. It wasn’t an “angry mob” which “killed” him, but rather two strokes. We know this thanks to a medical examiner’s report, which Katie covered when it was made available on April 19. That this was released three and a half months after the fact certainly did not help to control the narrative.

U.S. Seizes $90,000 From Man Who Sold Footage Of Capitol Riot

U.S. authorities have confiscated roughly $90,000 from a Utah man who sold footage of a woman being fatally shot during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of former President Donald Trump, according to court filings.

Prosecutors also have filed additional criminal charges against the man, John Earle Sullivan, a self-described political activist who is accused of entering the Capitol building and participating in the riot, the filings unsealed on Thursday showed.

Sullivan now faces a total of eight criminal counts, including weapons charges, related to the riot. Sullivan’s lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Prosecutors have charged more than 440 people in connection with the attack in which Trump supporters stormed the Capitol after he gave a speech to them repeating his false claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him through widespread voting fraud. The mob smashed windows, fought police and sent lawmakers into hiding. Five people died.

Many participants, including Sullivan, posted their actions on social media. (Read more from “U.S. Seizes $90,000 From Man Who Sold Footage Of Capitol Riot” HERE)

Judge Orders Psych Eval for Capitol Rioter ‘QAnon Shaman’

A federal judge has ordered Jacob Chansley, the Jan. 6 Capitol rioter known as the “QAnon Shaman,” to undergo a psychological evaluation.

There is “reasonable cause to believe that a competency examination” for Chansley is warranted, wrote Judge Royce Lamberth of the US District Court for the District of Columbia.

Chansley, 33, who also went by the name Jake Angeli, gained attention for wearing a horned helmet and red, white and blue face paint and carrying an American flag at multiple protests around his hometown of Phoenix before the Capitol riot. The bare-chested activist was a prominent figure in videos and photos taken during the insurrection, when he made it to the Senate floor, where he allegedly left a note for former Vice President Mike Pence.

He was arrested just three days after the riot, and refused to eat non-organic food while he was locked up. In March, he told “60 Minutes” that he did not attack the country, but was merely trying to inject some “positive vibrations” in the Senate on Jan. 6, where he said he “sang a song”. House Votes to Create Jan. 6 Riot Commission

The House voted to create a commission to investigate the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol despite opposition from GOP leaders who say it could be used as a political weapon ahead of the critical 2022 elections.

The measure, which passed 252-175 with substantial GOP support, calls for a 10-member panel appointed evenly by Republicans and Democrats, who would also share the power to issue subpoenas.

The commission would be tasked with examining the causes and responses to the event, which left several people dead and caused damage to the historic Capitol after hundreds of angry pro-Trump protesters were able to push past security and gain entry into the building.

While some of the protesters wandered around the building, others smashed doors and windows in angry pursuit of lawmakers who that day were voting to certify President Joe Biden’s election victory. (Read more from “House Votes to Create Jan. 6 Riot Commission” HERE)

Dem Senator Says He Was Ready to ‘Stay and Fight’ During Capitol Riot

Sen. Joe Manchin said he was prepared to hold his ground and fight when a crowd of Trump supporters converged on the US Capitol on Jan. 6 as Congress voted to certify the 2020 election.

”My intention was to stay and fight: ‘Let ‘em in. Let’s go at it.’ But I didn’t know what was going on,” Manchin (D-W.Va.) told USA Today in an interview published Monday.

“You had a lot of people chanting. I didn’t think anything of that. But within 10 or 15 minutes, a SWAT team comes in with all of their gear and says ‘You guys are out of here. Just go now. Don’t even stop,’” the 6-foot-3 former football standout said.

Manchin, a moderate Democrat from the state former President Donald Trump won by nearly 40 points in the 2020 election, has found himself at a position of influence in the 50-50 divided Senate, armed with a vote that could advance or doom Democratic initiatives. Biden’s 100 Day Address Garnered Less Than Half the Ratings of Trump’s Lowest Speech; Biden’s Radical Joint Address Was Plagued With Political Theater; WATCH: Biden Declares Capitol Riot, Not 9/11, Worst Attack on Democracy Since Civil War

By The Federalist. President Joe Biden’s first address to the joint session of Congress garnered less than half of the viewers that former President Donald Trump did in his lowest-rated speech.

According to preliminary numbers, 11.6 million people tuned in to see the president deliver his radical agenda to a nearly empty House chamber on Wednesday night dotted with handpicked attendees wearing masks and seated at least six feet from each other, despite mostly being vaccinated.

While cable and streaming numbers are expected to boost Wednesday’s viewership by at least three million more, Biden’s performance still fell short of Trump’s 2020 speech which received 37.2 million viewers. Biden’s numbers lagged even more behind Trump’s 2019, 2018, and 2017 numbers which received 46.8 million, 46 million, and 48 million viewers respectively. Biden’s Radical Joint Address Was Plagued With Political Theater

By The Federalist. On this episode of The Federalist Radio Hour, Senior Editor Christopher Bedford and Assistant Editor Kylee Zempel join Culture Editor Emily Jashinsky to analyze President Joe Biden’s address to the joint session of Congress.

“This is all theater. All of these people are vaccinated or have had COVID. The room is empty. They’re all wearing masks. They’re distancing,” Bedford said. “Everything last night was B.S.”

Major Development in Disturbing Shooting Death of Capitol Protester Ashli Babbitt

The attorney for the family of Ashli Babbit, the unarmed protester shot and killed during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, is now announcing that they will file civil charges over the violation of her constitutional rights.

Attorney Terry Roberts appeared on NewsMax Monday morning to talk about the Department of Justice dropping all charges against the unnamed police officer who shot Babbitt that day during the siege on the Capitol. He pointed out that the officer was to Babbitt’s left as she came into the building through the breached entrance. She did not see him and he allegedly gave her no verbal warning before shooting and killing the 35-year-old Air Force veteran. No one evidently heard a warning whatsoever. The officer’s attorney, Mark Schamel, claimed he issued several warnings according to RealClearInvestigations.

Roberts also pointed out that Babbitt could have been arrested after entering the building and that it was evident she was not armed. He contended that the shooting was totally unnecessary and there was no legal justification for shooting her.

Roberts said that the family takes severe issue with the DOJ’s ruling on the case, arguing that the officer-involved shooting was a gross overreaction and should have been prosecuted. Instead, all charges were dropped against the officer. (Read more from “Major Development in Disturbing Shooting Death of Capitol Protester Ashli Babbitt” HERE)

Dems Speak Up Over Harsh Treatment of Jan 6 Protesters, GOP Silent

Republicans are being criticized for staying silent about the reportedly harsh treatment of people arrested and detained in connection with the Jan. 6 Capitol riot while some leading Democrats speak out about it.

A majority of the more than 300 people arrested in the wake of the riot have since been released as they await their trials, Politico reported earlier this week. But dozens more, who have been deemed flight risks or risks to obstructing justice, are still being held without bond in a Washington, D.C., detention facility with a historically bad reputation for abusing inmates, some of whom have already reported, via their attorneys, being mistreated and beaten by guards.

In addition, those detainees are held in isolation for 23 hours a day, ostensibly to protect them and other inmates, as they wait for trial dates — treatment that Sens. Elizabeth Warran (D-Mass.) and Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), both opponents of solitary confinement, are calling abusive, Politico notes. . .

“Solitary confinement is a form of punishment that is cruel and psychologically damaging,” Warren told the outlet. “And we’re talking about people who haven’t been convicted of anything yet.”

Durbin agrees with his Democratic colleague, telling Politico that he was surprised that all of the remaining defendants in detention have been remanded to “restrictive housing.” (Read more from “Dems Speak Up Over Harsh Treatment of Jan 6 Protesters, GOP Silent” HERE)

No Charges For Capitol Police Officer Who Shot Jan. 6 Protester

The Justice Department has determined it won’t file charges against the U.S. Capitol Police officer who fatally shot 35-year-old Ashli Babbitt during the storming of the Capitol on January 6th.

In a press release announcing the decision, the Justice Department said the investigation did not find evidence that the officer had violated any federal laws, and there was nothing to contradict that he believed it was necessary to shoot at Babbitt “in self-defense or in defense of the Members of Congress and others evacuating the House Chamber.”

“Officials examined video footage posted on social media, statements from the officer involved and other officers and witnesses to the events, physical evidence from the scene of the shooting, and the results of an autopsy” and “based on that investigation, officials determined that there is insufficient evidence to support a criminal prosecution,” the release said.

The probe found “Babbitt was among a mob of people that entered the Capitol building and gained access to a hallway outside ‘Speaker’s Lobby,’ which leads to the Chamber of the U.S. House of Representatives. At the time, the USCP was evacuating Members from the Chamber, which the mob was trying to enter from multiple doorways.” (Read more from “No Charges For Capitol Police Officer Who Shot Jan. 6 Protester” HERE)
