Two U.S. Navy Sailors Arrested on Espionage Charges Involving Alleged Ties to China

Two U.S. Navy sailors were arrested on national security-related charges related to allegedly sending sensitive military information to the Chinese Communist Party, federal officials said on Thursday.

“These individuals stand accused of violating the commitments they made to protect the United States and betraying the public trust, to the benefit of the [People’s Republic of China] government,” Assistant Attorney General Matthew G. Olsen of the Justice Department’s National Security Division, said in a news release.

U.S. Navy Sailor Jinchao Wei, an active-duty machinist’s mate on the amphibious U.S.S. Essex assault ship stationed at Naval Base San Diego, was arrested on Wednesday for espionage-related charges upon arriving for work at the homeport of the Navy’s Pacific Fleet in California.

Wei, 22, was indicted for conspiracy to send national defense information to a Chinese intelligence officer who allegedly communicated with Wei using encrypted messages to provide photos, videos and documents about the U.S.S. Essex and other Navy ships as early as February 2022, according to U.S. officials. Wei allegedly disclosed the locations of various Navy ships, defensive weapons, technical and mechanical manuals to the intelligence officer in exchange for thousands of dollars over the course of the conspiracy. The sailor also allegedly passed along information about the number of U.S. Marines training during previously scheduled international maritime warfare exercises. U.S. Navy Drag Queen ‘Digital Ambassador’ Accused of Violating Military Code, Legal Group Demands Authorities Investigate Sailor

A drag queen purportedly hired as a “digital ambassador” for the U.S. Navy to increase recruitment numbers was accused on Monday of violating several military rules, including promoting partisan politics and expressing open contempt for his command.

America First Legal sent a letter to top Navy officials demanding they launch an investigation into Yeoman Second Class Joshua Kelley, who also dresses as a drag queen named “Harpy Daniels.”

Attorney Jacob Meckler for the legal group argues Kelley, who joined the Navy in 2016, allegedly violated critical requirements on several occasions that contravene the Uniform Code of Military Justice, which makes clear anyone transgressing the federal law should be court-martialed.

“[H]e has repeatedly engaged in partisan activity, behaved in ways that discredit the military, publicly criticized his command, and misused his uniform for personal gain,” Meckler wrote in the letter. “Based on the Department’s past actions with respect to politically or culturally conservative service members, an investigation is appropriate here.”

According to the legal group, Kelley has tweeted several times about his support for Democrats, graphic photos, and descriptions of sexual acts. Many of Kelley’s Instagram and Twitter posts also appeared to include images or videos of the sailor in uniform, with others depicting him in drag. U.S. Navy Denied Recruitment Program That Featured Drag Queen ‘Digital Ambassador’: Rep. Jim Banks

Months before Republicans began protesting the Navy’s decision to tap an active-duty drag queen to serve as a “digital ambassador” to attract a diverse workforce, the service reportedly denied the existence of the recruitment outreach program during a March call with the House Armed Services Committee, The Post has exclusively learned.

Though the program had run from October to March and featured drag performer Yeoman 2nd Class Joshua Kelley as one of five “digital ambassadors,” HASC Subcommittee on Military Personnel Chairman Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) told The Post that a Navy briefer said the program “did not exist.”

“We are facing a historic recruitment crisis and instead of focusing efforts on strengthening our force, the Biden administration is forcing wokeness on our service members,” Banks said.

“Navy leadership knew this was a ridiculous and embarrassing stunt, and that is why they initially denied involvement with the program.”

Now, after Kelley’s pro-Navy outreach efforts on Instagram and TikTok made headlines last week, Banks and fellow subcommittee member Rep. Mark Alford (R-Mo.) are asking Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to find out why lawmakers were misled. Republican Warns Democrat’s Obsession With Gender Identity Will Destroy U.S. Military Branches

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala) is calling out the U.S. Navy for enlisting woke, progressive ideas in an attempt to recruit members, threatening the country’s national security.

The Republican warned that the Navy is having a “Bud Light moment” after news broke it had hired a non-binary officer to be its drag queen “Digital Ambassador” to entice recruits.

“My concern is that our new national obsession with sexuality, race, and gender is focused on self rather than purpose, ability, or service. I spent 40 years recruiting young men to play football. What the Navy is doing isn’t a good recruiting strategy,” Tuberville wrote in an opinion piece for the Washington Street Journal.

Instead of focusing on real issues the military branch faces, such as low recruitment levels, aging aircraft, and poor shipyard conditions, Tuberville pointed out that the Navy is too busy worrying about caving to the Democrat’s “woke identity politics” agenda. US Navy Used Drag Queen Influencer to Attract a ‘Wide Range’ of New Troops as Recruitment Plummets

By Daily Caller. The Navy brought on an active-duty drag queen to participate in a pilot program aimed at reaching a wider audience through popular social media platforms as the military faces severe recruiting woes, a Navy spokesperson told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Yeoman 2nd Class Joshua Kelley, stage name Harpy Daniels, announced the Navy invited him to become the first “Navy Digital Ambassador” in a November 2022 social media post, highlighting his journey from performing on deck in 2018 to becoming a “leader” and “advocate” of people who “were oppressed for years in the service.” The Digital Ambassador initiative in which Kelley participated ran from October 2022 to March 2023 and was “designed to explore the digital environment to reach a wide range of potential candidates,” the Navy spokesperson said.

The Digital Ambassador initiative concluded in April, and the Navy is now evaluating the program to consider what form it will take in the future, the spokesperson told the DCNF. . .

Top Military Officials Questioned Over Drag Shows on Military Bases

By Rebecca Kheel. . .[C]onservative firebrand Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., grilled Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Mark Milley on several recent drag events that have become extensively discussed in conservative media, including a planned “Drag Queen Storytime” that Ramstein Air Base, Germany, canceled last year after GOP criticism.

“I’d like to take a look at those myself and find out what actually is going on there because that’s the first I’m hearing about that kind of stuff,” Milley said after Gaetz read several headlines from conservative outlets about the drag events. “I’d like to take a look at those because I don’t agree with those. I think those things shouldn’t be happening.”

Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro told an openly gay chaplain that homosexuality is a choice during an online town hall event that took place on Monday.

“Understand that the battles that you face, the challenges that you face every day and trying to make the world a better place, are not easy. They’re defined by your choice to be homosexual, and that we’ve got to work together and have hope and that we will, you know, continue to make progress in time,” Del Toro said in the video. . .

A Navy official who requested anonymity to speak frankly about the encounter told Navy Times that Del Toro meant to say that a person revealing their sexuality and coming out is a choice.

Del Toro echoed that sentiment in a statement to Navy Times in the late afternoon Tuesday.

Chinese Military Warns U.S. Navy Plane to Stay Away or ‘Pay Full Responsibility’

The Chinese military had a warning for the U.S. after an encounter escalated tensions between the two countries.

A U.S. Navy P-8 plane was recently flying 30 miles outside the South China Sea when it received a radio call from China to move away from its airspace.

“No approaching anymore, or you will pay full responsibility,” an operative of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) said over the radio.

Lt. Nikki Slaughter, who was piloting the U.S. Navy P-8 aircraft at the time, quickly responded just as a Chinese jet armed with air-to-air missiles came up alongside them.

Trans Pride Flag Creator, 71, Announces Adoption of 14-Year-Old ‘Trans Daughter’

The Navy veteran responsible for designing the transgender pride flag has announced on social media that he and his partner, also a trans-identified male, have adopted a “transgender” child.

Monica Helms, born Robert Hogge, designed the first trans pride flag in 1999. He currently resides in Georgia with his partner Darlene Darlington Wagner, another trans-identified male who is 23 years younger than him.

On December 22, Helms announced that he and Wagner were in the process of adopting a 14-year-old “trans daughter,” who was living with the two adults while the paperwork was being finalized. The child is a biological male who Helms claims is a “girl.”

Helms is currently 71-years-old, but the state of Georgia does not place maximum age restrictions on adoption.

U.S. Navy Announces ‘Reset’ of Physical Fitness Test Failures

The U.S. Navy announced Thursday it is granting sailors a “one-time reset” of past physical fitness assessment (PFA) failures in hopes of improving retention, while the Department of Defense (DOD) revealed taxpayer dollars will be used to pay for servicemembers’ abortion travel fees.

A message to Navy units announced “a one-time reset of all [PFA] failures.” for the purposes of reenlistment and promotion, among other “career continuation transitions.”

It added that the “reset is intended to level the playing field and ensure every Sailor with the drive to continue has an opportunity to meet fitness standards.” . . .

The Navy Times noted officials say the “one-time reset” is geared toward improving personnel retention and could allow as many as 1,500 sailors to avoid separation from the service, a problem being experienced in other navies around the world. US Navy Ends Ridiculous COVID-19 Vaccine Restrictions

The U.S. Navy lifted its deployment restrictions on sailors who are not vaccinated against COVID-19.

A NAVADMIN released Thursday announced the end of considering vaccination status when deploying sailors. The announcement is in line with the Fiscal Year 2023 National Defense Authorization Act.

“Commanders should seek advice from medical providers regarding medical readiness of personnel to inform deployment and other operational mission decisions,” NAVADMIN 38/23 said. “COVID-19 vaccination status shall not be a consideration in assessing individual service member suitability for deployment or other operational missions.”
