My Son’s Freshman Orientation at Virginia Tech Was Full of Leftist Propaganda

. . .Like many other women, I just sent my youngest child to college. I am so proud of him and his decision to join the Army ROTC and study engineering. He will be attending a revered Virginia institution known for its military Corps of Cadets program.

Because of this, I was shocked to experience what I can only describe as extreme and overtly leftist propaganda spewed at our children’s orientation. The opening “University Welcome” event for students and parents separated families immediately in the auditorium.

Nobody expected the event to begin with prayer or the Pledge of Allegiance — heavens, no! But one might expect to remember the names of fallen cadets on the pylons or the 32 dead and 17 injured in the 2007 shooting on Virginia Tech’s campus, the deadliest school shooting in U.S. history. Nope. Instead, the administration made the stunning choice to open orientation by recognizing two Native American tribes on whose land the college was built (with the implication that it was stolen).

What followed went from slightly bothersome to downright alarming. The college filled the next two hours with speaker after speaker who introduced themselves with not just their names and titles but also preferred pronouns — as in, “Hi my name is Penny Nance, and I identify as she and her.” At first, parents were slightly surprised; by the end, they were mad. . .

At one point, after dinner, they sent parents off to oblivious sleep while they lectured students on not making assumptions about each other’s gender or sexuality. Were they suggesting students ought to be fluidly “exploring” their gender and sexuality, as if it were some expected adventure? In the era of “Me Too,” that seems off message. Meet the Pro-Life Former Trump Official Trying to UNSEAT One of Virginia’s Top Infanticide Proponents

He’s a former Trump administration official. He loves basketball, speaks fluent Spanish, and at 32 years old, Nick Bell is running a one-man campaign to replace one of one of the Virginia state legislature’s key abortion proponents.

It’s one of the hottest days of the sweltering, humid Northern Virginia summer as Bell sits down at a sandwich shop with me just a few minutes from his home in the Washington, D.C., suburb of Annandale. Over his roast beef and cheddar sandwich, Bell says that he’s running a pro-life insurgency campaign for the Virginia House of Delegates to help make his home state into “something that people can be proud of” again after the commonwealth’s infanticide fiasco earlier this year.

Bell isn’t running against the lead sponsor of Virginia’s now-infamous infanticide bill, Democratic lawmaker Kathy Tran; instead, his district (the 39th) is located right next to Tran’s, where he’s running against Tran’s fellow abortion supporter Democratic delegate Vivian Watts.

“I always say Vivian Watts makes Kathy Tran look like an angel,” Bell explains. “She has this long history of being very pro-abortion.”

Watts supported Tran’s infanticide bill in the subcommittee that voted to move forward on the bill. In the past, Bell says, Watts also opposed “many versions” of the state’s 1997 partial birth abortion ban and and also voted against “every single version” of a 2003 Virginia abortion law that prohibits doctors from making an “outright act” to kill a child who survives an abortion, but doesn’t prohibit them from letting them die.

That loophole, Bell explains, is what informed Virginia Governor Ralph Northam’s January comments about keeping infants “comfortable” while deciding whether or not to let them die.

“So one of my positions is we need to put a bill forward like the [federal Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act] to say, ‘Okay, we have to provide medical care to babies who survive a failed abortion,’” Bell explains.

Bell also realizes that because he’s running in deep-blue Northern Virginia against a longtime state legislator, the odds are stacked heavily against him. However, he says that he’s banking on hopes that the infanticide fiasco went too far, even for those who call themselves “pro-choice.”

“I think people are horrified of what [pro-abortion Democrats] are doing,” Bell says of the “extreme position” of the state’s infanticide bill. “Obviously my district is majority pro-choice, but we’re not talking about abortion in the first trimester; we’re talking about killing babies who are born or are one, two, three days before birth.”

Bell also says that he plans to get his message out to the people of his district with good old-fashioned door-knocking, reaching out to churches, and sending out mailers informing voters of his and his opponent’s position on the life issue “because people actually don’t know what’s going on” or the extent of Virginia’s current abortion laws, which allow for “abortion up until the moment of birth,” or that “Democrats are trying to make it available for any reason whatsoever.”

“Face-to-face contact is so big,” Bell adds while discussing door-knocking. “You can get a lot of mailers, but if you don’t see the person face to face, that’s extremely important.”

That’s also going to be quite a task, given that Bell says his campaign is currently a one-man show.

“Right now, it’s only me, so I am just doing this all myself,” Bell informs me. He adds with a smile, “How many nonprofits or campaigns can say 100 percent of their dollars go directly to the voter contact? I can say that.”

Bell, a lifelong Virginian except for the three years he spent teaching English and moonlighting in semi-professional basketball in Spain, said that when he first heard about the abortion bill, he was “shocked, horrified.”

“I couldn’t believe that my state would allow that,” he recalled. He also notes that, following the infanticide fiasco, “Virginia was called out as being an embarrassment to the whole nation,” which he says was a “huge part” of motivating his campaign. “I want to change Virginia from being a point of embarrassment and shame into something that people can be proud of,” Bell says. “And killing babies after they’re born or right before they’re born is not what I want Virginia to be known for.”

Nick Bell is the son of former Republican Senate candidate and Reagan administration official Jeffrey Bell, one of the key proponents behind supply-side “Reaganomics.” Nick himself has also worked in a Republican presidential administration, having previously served as a special assistant to the assistant secretary for policy at the Trump Labor Department.

But the young Republican also knows that he can’t run a successful campaign on a single issue alone; another big area where he plans to focus his messaging, he says, is on Northern Virginia’s tolls and traffic, especially for those who have to drive to Washington, D.C., or Maryland for work.

He says he wants to eliminate “all the toll lanes” on the area’s highways and “convert them to regular lanes so everyone can use it.” Now, he adds, people “can’t get back to their family because they see these huge lanes with no one on them and they’re stuck in this insane traffic.”

When he’s not trying to add a pro-life voice to the Old Dominion’s legislature, Bell says that he likes to blow off steam by playing basketball.”I love basketball,” Bell explains. “I love to get out there and shoot around outside in my neighborhood.” The multiple basketballs sitting in the back seat of his stick-shift four-door sedan out in the parking lot prove he isn’t kidding around about that.

Overall, despite the hard few months ahead of him, Bell says that he feels “super optimistic and energized” about his campaign.

Bell continues to say that a big part of his optimism at this stage is his view that “the Democrats are so apart from the people,” because he’s “never thought of another issue where the voting populace is farther from a certain political party” than on the issue of late-term abortion and infanticide.

“I think if you went outside and asked 100 people, ‘Do you support killing babies after they’re born?’” Bell concludes, “it would be 99.9 to one, no way.”

More Details Emerge About Virginia Shooting

By Fox News. The Virginia Beach shooter who killed 12 people and wounded several others in a municipal complex on Friday had submitted his resignation earlier that morning, officials said Sunday.

The gunman, identified as 40-year-old DeWayne Craddock, was an engineer with the city’s public utilities department for 15 years. In a news conference Sunday morning, Virginia Beach City Manager Dave Hansen described the man’s work performance as “satisfactory” with no ongoing issues of discipline. . .

Virginia Beach Police Chief James Cervera said that there was no “glaring” motive and no information on whether the gunman was targeting a specific person. . .

Officers arrived outside the building within two minutes of receiving a call of shots fired, the chief said. Minutes later, the officers who entered the building engaged in a “long gun battle” with the suspect. Cervera said the gunfight lasted 5 to 8 minutes and the number of rounds fired went into the double digits, though he couldn’t give specific numbers.

One officer was shot and wounded during the exchange of gunfire, he said. Officers eventually breached a door the gunman had been firing behind. The suspect was wounded when officers took him into custody. Police immediately rendered first aid, but Craddock later died. (Read more from “More Details Emerge About Virginia Shooting” HERE)

Democrat Reps. Push Gun Control Before Virginia Beach Details Known

By Breitbart. Rep. Elaine Luria (D-VA-2) and Rep. Norma Torres (D-CA-35) called for more gun control Friday before the details of the Virginia Beach shooting were even known.

Luria was tweeting for gun control before Virginia Beach police chief Jim Cervera had officially listed the number of dead or wounded. In fact, at the time she tweeted, it was widely reported that a suspect was in custody, but Cervera clarified that the suspect had been killed. . .

Since we do not know how the gunman acquired his weapon — whether by purchasing it legally it, stealing it, borrowing it, etc. — what actions does Luria suggest Congress ought to take?

. . .

Rep. Norma Torres (D-CA-35) waited until Chief Cervera had announced that 11 were dead and six were wounded, then tweeted for more gun control although so much critical information is still unknown.

Retired Pastor Banned from Hosting Bible Study at Apartment Complex

An elderly Virginia couple has sued the owners of a senior living apartment complex, claiming they were kicked out for hosting weekly Bible study classes.

The federal lawsuit, filed in Richmond, Va., alleges housing discrimination against Community Realty, which manages the Evergreens at Smith Run complex in Fredericksburg. . .

“The management company’s hostility to religious residents violates federal law and taints Virginia’s long history of religious freedom,” said Lea Patterson, associate counsel for First Liberty Institute, which filed the lawsuit. “We’re asking the court to hold the management company accountable for violating the Hauges’ right to exercise their faith in their home and to ensure no other residents have to suffer through what the Hauges have endured.”

The couple, who had lived at the facility since 2017, claims management discriminated against them by first banning everyone from saying grace before their meal and then barring them from hosting the Bible study.

Community Realty cited complaints from other residents who alleged the couple, both in their 80s, had been harassing people and pressuring them to join the Bible study. The company did not immediately return phone calls from Fox News seeking comment. (Read more from “Retired Pastor Banned from Hosting Bible Study at Apartment Complex” HERE)

Virginia Governor’s Wife Handed Cotton to Black Students, Made This CRAZY Comment

Virginia Democrat Governor Ralph Northam’s wife allegedly handed raw cotton to black students during a tour of the governor’s mansion last week and told them to imagine being slaves and being forced to pick the cotton.

The Washington Post reported that the allegation came from a Virginia state employee who said that “her eighth-grade daughter was upset during a tour of the historic governor’s residence when first lady Pam Northam handed raw cotton to her and another African American child and asked them to imagine being enslaved and having to pick the crop.”

“The Governor and Mrs. Northam have asked the residents of the Commonwealth to forgive them for their racially insensitive past actions,” said Leah Dozier Walker, the Director of Equity and Engagement at Virginia’s Education Department, in a letter to lawmakers on Monday. “But the actions of Mrs. Northam, just last week, do not lead me to believe that this Governor’s office has taken seriously the harm and hurt they have caused African Americans in Virginia or that they are deserving of our forgiveness.”

The tour, which took place last Thursday, involved a “traditional gathering of about 100 young people who had served as pages during the state Senate session.” . . .

“Mrs. Northam then asked these three pages [the only black pages in attendance] if they could imagine what it must have been like to pick cotton all day,” Walker said in her letter. “I can not for the life of me understand why the first lady would single out the African American pages for this — or — why she would ask them such an insensitive question.” (Read more from “Virginia Governor’s Wife Handed Cotton to Black Students, Made This CRAZY Comment” HERE)

Virginia Lt. Gov. Fairfax Compares Himself to Lynching Victims Due to Sexual Assault Allegations Against Him

Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax (D) made a speech Sunday in which he compared himself to a victim of lynching due to the sexual assault allegations he was facing, according to the Associated Press.

“I’ve heard much about anti-lynching on the floor of this very Senate, where people were not given any due process whatsoever, and we rue that,” Fairfax said at the close of the legislative session for the state Senate.

“And we talk about hundreds, at least 100 terror lynchings that have happened in the Commonwealth of Virginia under those very same auspices,” he continued. “And yet we stand here in a rush to judgment with nothing but accusations and no facts and we decide that we are willing to do the same thing.” . . .

“That is the worst, most disgusting type of rhetoric he could have invoked,” Republican House Majority Leader Del. Todd Gilbert said of Fairfax’s remarks Sunday. “It’s entirely appropriate for him to talk about due process and we would intend to offer him every ounce of it, and he’s welcome to take advantage of that anytime he would like.”

The state’s two other top Democrats, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and Attorney General Mark Herring, have also been resisting calls to resign after they both admitted to wearing blackface in the 1980s. (Read more from “Virginia Lt. Gov. Must-Read: Washington Post Explains Why Democrat Northam ‘Must Go,’ but It’s Not Why You Might Think

The editorial board of The Washington Post has decided that it’s time for embattled Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam to resign. The “circumstances are decisive,” the editors wrote in an editorial Wednesday, “what’s done cannot be undone. He must go.” But the impetus for their demand is not Northam dressing in blackface (well, not really), nor is it because they’re hoping the equally embattled lieutenant governor will take his place (“he has his own problems,” after all), and it’s certainly not because the “moderate” governor attempted to justify infanticide. No, it’s a bit more, well, complicated than that.

“Gov. Ralph Northam (D) can no longer effectively serve the people of Virginia who elected him,” the editorial begins. “His shifting and credulity-shredding explanations for the racist photograph on his medical school yearbook page, and the silence into which he then succumbed for days — after initially promising to do ‘the hard work’ of atonement and apology to restore his standing with Virginians — is simply too much.”

In other words, it’s not the blackface photo (or Michael Jackson impression) that’s the nail on the coffin for Northam; it’s his “shifting and credulity-shredding explanations” for it.

“His decade-long record in public office is admirable; it is equally true that his governorship has been irredeemably wrecked by the self-inflicted, racially callous and clueless mess he has made in recent days,” they continue. The editorial board reminds their readers that “facts do matter” and, in this case, Northam’s left too many “unsettled and unanswered.”

“First and foremost among the questions they raise: How could he possibly have admitted to something as damning as appearing in the photo if he was certain he wasn’t one of the people in it? How did that photo wind up on his page if he didn’t furnish it to the yearbook editors? What do the governor’s now-you-see-it-now-you-don’t statements say about his judgment?” they ask. “The explanations Mr. Northam has proffered are vague and unconvincing. Virginians deserve better. Mr. Northam’s time is up.” (Read more from “Must-Read: Washington Post Explains Why Democrat Northam ‘Must Go,’ but It’s Not Why You Might Think” HERE)

KKK, Blackface Photo Emerges From Virginia Governor’s Yearbook – Dems Call For Resignation

By Daily Wire. A photo emerged on Friday that appears to show Virginia Democrat Governor Ralph Northam appearing in a photograph that shows someone dressed up in a KKK hood and in blackface.

“On Wednesday, in a shocking revelation about the nature of the pro-abortion Democratic Party, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, a supposed moderate, endorsed the notion that a woman should be able to let an infant, born alive, die on the table if she decided she did not want the child,” The Daily Wire reported.

Northam made the remarks during an interview with WTOP’s “Ask The Governor.” Northam stated:

This is why decisions such as this should be made by providers, physicians, and the mothers and fathers that are involved. When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of the mother, with the consent of physicians, more than one physician by the way, and it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities, there may be a fetus which is non-viable. So in this particular example, if the mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen, the infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if this is what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physician and the mother.

Leading Democrats call for Gov. Northam to resign over racist yearbook photo

By The Blaze. Top Democratic leaders are calling for the governor of Virginia to resign after a yearbook photo resurfaced showing him in a racist photo.

Among those calling for his resignation were presidential candidate Senator Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), who tweeted, “Leaders are called to a higher standard, and the stain of racism should have no place in the halls of government.”

Northam released a statement on Friday admitting that the photo was authentic, but he did not disclose whether he was the man dressed as a KKK member or the man wearing blackface.

“Earlier today, a website published a photograph of me from my 1984 medical school yearbook in a costume that is clearly racist and offensive,” he said in the statement.

“I am deeply sorry for the decision I made to appear as I did in this photo and for the hurt that decision caused then and now,” he added. (Read more from “Leading Democrats call for Gov. Northam to resign over racist yearbook photo” HERE)

Virginia Man Threatens to Murder GOP Congressman – Here’s Why

By The Daily Caller. A Virginia man was arrested Friday and charged with threatening to murder U.S. Rep. Scott Taylor and two of his staffers.

Wallace Grove Godwin, a 69-year-old Virginia Beach resident, made the threats during a visit to Taylor’s office on Thursday.

According to court documents filed in federal court on Friday, Godwin became upset during a discussion about marijuana policy. Taylor, a 39-year-old Republican, supports legalizing marijuana. He co-sponsored a 2017 bill that would remove marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act.

“Scott is having an event this Saturday. I am going to get my shotgun and do something about this. I will just handle this myself,” Godwin said, before pointing to two staffers and saying: “You two are next.”

Taylor was not at the office at the time, according to court documents. (Read more from “Virginia Man Threatens to Murder GOP Congressman – Here’s Why” HERE)

Man Arrested for Threatening to Murder Virginia Congressman

By Politico. A Virginia Beach man was charged Friday with threatening to murder his local congressman, Rep. Scott Taylor (R-Va.), the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia announced Friday.

According to court documents, Wallace Grove Godwin, 69, visited Taylor’s office on Thursday and threatened to shoot him and two staffers at a Saturday event. The dispute arose, according to the District Attorney’s office, over a discussion about marijuana policy.

“Scott is having an event this Saturday. I am going to get my shotgun and do something about this. I will just handle this myself,” Godwin allegedly said to a Taylor staffer. He then pointed to two staffers in the room and said, “You two are next,” authorities said.

Gowdin is expected to appear in a federal courthouse in Norfolk, Va. on Friday afternoon. The maximum penalty for threatening a member of Congress is 10 years in prison.

Lawmakers have clamored for more funding for personal security over the last year amid increased hostility at local events — and especially after last year’s baseball practice shooting that left House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) gravely wounded.
