Latest Outrage: Obama Forcing Christian Charities to Provide Abortions to Refugees [+videos]

By WND. A new set of rules soon to be issued by the Obama administration would require faith-based charities to provide abortions to child refugees entering the U.S. without their parents.

Organizations working to help resettle the children contend the rules are a violation of the conscience rights of faith-based groups and a contravention of the rights of parents.

The rules would require charitable organizations, including faith-based groups that help resettle refugee children, to make referrals for emergency contraception or to partner with groups that provide abortions. The groups also have the option of notifying the federal government, which would then make arrangements for abortions.

Failure to follow the rules means the groups would no longer be eligible for federal aid. They must comply no later than June 24.

The new rules are being fast-tracked in what some are calling elusive methods. (Read more about Obama forcing Christian charities to provide abortions HERE)

Documents Show the Expensive Tastes of Jeb Bush’s “Low-Key” Wife

In 1999, Columba Bush, the famously private wife of then-Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, was detained and fined by federal customs officials for misrepresenting the amount of clothing and jewelry she had bought while on a solo five-day shopping spree in Paris.

The incident left the Florida first lady deeply mortified and her husband politically chagrined. Jeb Bush said the first lady had misled customs officials because she did not want him to know that she had spent about $19,000 on the trip.

“The embarrassment I felt made me ashamed to face my family and friends,” Columba Bush said in a July 1999 speech to the Central Florida Make-a-Wish Foundation, not long after the incident. “It was the worst feeling I’ve ever had in my life.”

The ordeal did not stop her from spending freely, however. Less than a year later, she took out a loan to buy $42,311.70 worth of jewelry on a single day, according to records filed with the state of Florida by Mayors Jewelers.

That purchase was part of a pattern by Columba Bush of borrowing to buy tens of thousands of dollars of jewelry at a time from the South Florida store over a 14-year period. Documentation available online, which does not include the details of two transactions made less than six weeks apart in 1995, shows that she spent a total of more than $90,000 at the store. Kansas Becomes the First in the Nation to Ban Dismemberment Abortions

Great news from Kansas. [Friday] morning the Kansas Senate approved SB 95, the Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Abortion Act, by a vote of 31-9.

Crafted to withstand constitutional scrutiny, SB 95 heads to a very receptive Kansas House, where it is expected to pass easily. The bill would then go to pro-life Gov. Sam Brownback (R), who promised to sign this bill.

Lead sponsor Sen. Garrett Love (R-Montezuma) began Thursday’s formal discussion on the Senate floor by recounting how members of the Senate Health committee heard an ex-abortionist describe this method “of tearing the arms, legs, and other body parts off until a baby dies. Hearing the description made myself and many other members of the committee feel sick [especially] when learning nearly 600 such abortions occur each year in Kansas.”

Sen. Love, the “youngest-ever-elected” to the Kansas Senate, discussed his new baby daughter and coming to love her more through her ultrasound imaging at 12 and 19 weeks gestation, the time frame when most dismemberment abortions occur. He said “people in my generation are outraged by this procedure; they see the sonograms of their friends, family and their own babies on Facebook and realize that in those pictures are little, defenseless babies. They need us to defend them because they cannot defend themselves…This is a truly barbaric practice we must end in Kansas.” (Read more about the law to ban dismemberment abortions HERE)

Apple Fires Employee on Same Day He Was Targeted For His Pro-Family Stand

Tech giant Apple, Inc. has fired an Alabama lobbyist and former state legislator after a local political blog criticized him for his views in support of true marriage.

Quoting complaints by openly homosexual Apple CEO Tim Cook that his home state of Alabama has been “too slow” in embracing a redefinition of marriage to include same-sex couples, Inside Alabama Politics questioned why the company would hire former Republican representative Jay Love to represent them in Montgomery.

“Love was the first Republican in the country to advertise against California’s gay rights decision to strike down the state’s ban on same-sex marriage,” the author noted. “In a campaign commercial Love calls gay marriage a part of the liberal Democratic agenda in Washington that he will fight against.”

“While it isn’t unusual rhetoric from Republicans and even many Democrats running for office, especially in conservative states’ like Alabama, it does seem slightly unusual he was hired as a lobbyist by Apple, unless of course Apple didn’t know of his past stance on the subject of same-sex marriage,” the blog post read.

The blog author also criticized Love for a resolution he sponsored praising 2009 Miss USA contestant Carrie Prejean, who sparked outrage from homosexual activists by expressing her belief that marriage is between a man and a woman during the pageant’s Q&A section. New Epidemic of HIV in Cuba is Twice as Aggressive as Average Virus

By Payton Guion. Researchers are worried after discovering a new strain of HIV in Cuba that progresses to AIDS twice as fast as the average strain of the disease, leaving those infected with a preciously shorter window in which to seek treatment.

The strain – which is actually a mix of three subtypes of human immunodeficiency virus – can progress to AIDS within three years if left untreated, according to reports. The average HIV strain advances to AIDS in six to 10 years.

Mutated HIV viruses are more difficult to diagnose and the rapid nature of the new Cuban strain make it difficult to treat those with HIV before it is too late. Researchers have identified more than 60 strains of HIV type 1 because of mutations. (Read more about the HIV in Cuba being twice as aggressive as the average virus HERE)

Fast Acting HIV Strain in Cuba Troubles Aids Researchers

By Daniel Chang and Nora Gamez Torres. A strain of HIV that progresses to full-blown AIDS within three years if left untreated has become “epidemic” among newly infected patients in Cuba who reported having unprotected sex with multiple partners, according to a study published last week by international researchers working with patients and doctors in the Caribbean island nation.

The strain of human immunodeficiency virus — a combination of three subtypes of the virus — progresses so fast that researchers at Belgium’s Catholic University of Leuven said they worry patients infected with the mutated virus may not seek antiretroviral therapy until it’s too late.

The finding, published in the medical journal EBioMedicine, raises concerns among U.S. AIDS researchers who worry that mutated HIV viruses are more difficult to diagnose, might eventually become resistant to therapy and could challenge efforts to develop a vaccine.

Hector Bolivar, a physician and infectious-disease specialist with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, said the HIV research community has long known about the virus’ capacity to mutate and create new versions.

More than 60 strains of HIV type 1 exist in the world because of mutations. (Read more from this story HERE)

Teacher Uses Immigration Topic To Explain Political Cartoons, Student’s Father Enraged

One father wasn’t happy after his eighth grade son brought home a seemingly biased homework assignment on immigration policy in the U.S.

The homework sheet was assigned by eighth grade Social Studies teacher Grace Davis at Shattuck Middle School in Wisconsin. It featured a political cartoon originally run by the Chattanooga Times Free Press that included two men: a Democrat laying the “pathway” to citizenship and a Republican removing the bricks.

The assignment required that each student answer a series of questions about the cartoon. One question asked what each man was doing and another asked how their actions might relate to immigration or citizenship.

When one student returned home to his father, Scott Radies, the man was outraged.

“I flipped it over to see if the opposite view was maybe on the other side of the homework assignment,” Radies said, “but there’s nothing.” (Read more about the immigration topic HERE)

Miracle: Baby Survives Being Buried Alive

A newborn girl in China miraculously survived being buried alive after her parents thought she was stillborn. Lu Xiaoyun was having severe stomach pains at home when she called her husband, Mr. Ye, to tell him something was wrong. He rushed home to find his wife in pool of blood waiting for assistance.

Tragically, according to reports, once the ambulance arrived Mr. Ye mistakenly thought his daughter was dead and told emergency workers there was no point in taking their baby in to be examined. However, the couple did go to the hospital so that Ms. Lu could be checked out.

Upon arrival, doctors questioned the couple and encouraged them to have their baby properly examined to make sure she was dead. But while they were at the hospital, Ms. Lu’s mother buried the baby under a tree in their yard.

The couple was shocked but rushed into the yard to dig up their baby. Amazingly, they discovered she was still breathing and immediately left their farm and went to the hospital. At the hospital doctors established that Ms. Lu had given birth at six-months (24-weeks) pregnant, which is considered very premature. Ms. Ly and Mr. Ye also have a seven-year-old daughter.

It is truly remarkable that the couple’s baby survived because some babies at this age don’t survive even under the best of circumstances. In fact, even though 80% of babies born at 26-weeks survive the first year; chances of survival are significantly lower for younger babies. (Read more about the baby being buried alive HERE)

New Studies Show Cohabitating Before Marriage is a Very Bad Idea [+video]

Photo Credit: The Daily Signal More young adults are opting to cohabit rather than marry or to delay marriage for financial reasons, such as debt, according to a recent study published in Demography. However, National Marriage Week presents a good opportunity to review how rigorous, long-term studies have measured the substantial impact of marriage on financial stability, as well as relationship longevity and health outcomes. . .

Even after marrying, women who cohabitated prior to marriage are more apt to separate or divorce than those who did not. One study demonstrated that for women who lived with their partners before marriage, it was 33 percent more likely for their marriages to result in separation or divorce.

Men who cohabit tend to make less money than their married counterparts. Married men tend to make more money than their unmarried guy friends, according to a study based on the 1990 U.S. Census. Once husbands and wives reach pre-retirement age, another study found never-married cohabiters had less wealth than married couples—78 percent less. . .

Cohabiting couples report more depression and more alcohol problems than married couples. Even when controlling for race, age and gender, cohabiting individuals reported higher levels of depression than married ones, 2.8 points according to one study. In another study, cohabiting individuals were three times more likely to report having problems with alcohol consumption than those who were married, as well as 25 percent more problems than single people who did not cohabit.
