A Tale of Two July Fourths: No Fireworks for Dems This Year

. . .President Biden strutted into the Fourth of July a year ago on solid political footing, declaring the nation’s independence from the coronavirus.

Twelve months later, Mr. Biden is stumbling into the fireworks and festivities bruised — and struggling to convince voters he can right the ship.

Larry Jacobs, a political science professor at the University of Minnesota, said the change over the last year is “night and day.”

“Optimism among Democrats took a hit by the failure to pass the Build Back Better agenda and the subsequent Democratic fighting,” Mr. Jacobs said. “The situation has only gotten worse for Dems — inflation haunts all Americans and will likely go up in the coming months.” (Read more from “A Tale of Two July Fourths: No Fireworks for Dems This Year” HERE)

Kamala Harris Appears to Compare Roe Ruling to Legacy of Slavery

Vice President Kamala Harris appeared to draw a connection between the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade the legacy of slavery over the weekend.

Harris made the comparison while participating in a fireside conversation Saturday afternoon with actress Keke Palmer at the Essence Festival, one of the nation’s largest African American cultural gatherings which took place in New Orleans. While speaking to the crowd, the vice president argued that the high court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization served as an example of the United States “trying to claim ownership over human bodies.”

“This is a serious matter,” Harris began while denouncing the court’s decision. “And it requires all of us to speak up, to speak out, and to be active.”

“We have to recognize we’re a nation that was founded on certain principles that are — that are grounded in the concept of freedom and liberty,” she continued moments later. “We also know that we’ve had a history in this country of government trying to claim ownership over human bodies. And we had supposedly evolved from that time and that way of thinking. So this is very problematic on so many levels.”

While she did not explicitly reference slavery, Harris’s comment about the country’s history of “government trying to claim ownership over human bodies” appeared to serve as a reference to the darkest stain on the United States’ legacy. San Francisco Officials Slap Couple With a $1,500 Warning for Parking on Their Own Property

As if parking in San Francisco wasn’t already difficult, the city’s planning commission took it a step further after threatening a couple with a $1,500 fine for parking their vehicle in their own driveway.

Ed and Judy Craine, a San Francisco couple who have parked car after car in their driveway for nearly 40 years, received a $1,542 warning from city officials stating parking a car in their driveway violated a code section that banned vehicles from parking in the setback in front of houses — regardless if it doesn’t block a sidewalk, ABC7 reported. To make matters worse, the city would add $250 per day if the car wasn’t removed from the driveway that “as far they could tell” was used as a place to park vehicles since the house was built in 1910.

“To all of a sudden to be told you can’t use something that we could use for years,” Ed told ABC7. “It’s, it’s startling. Inexplicable.”

“It was very surprising, to say the least,” Judy said. “I wrote them back saying I thought this was a mistake.”

But the city said otherwise and gave them a chance to prove that past residents have historically used the space a lot. If successfully, they might get a waiver. (Read more from “San Francisco Officials Slap Couple With a $1,500 Warning for Parking on Their Own Property” HERE)

POLL: 71% Of Voters Don’t Want Biden In 2024

An overwhelming majority of American voters don’t want Joe Biden to run for re-election in 2024, according to a recent Harvard CAPS–Harris poll.

71% of Americans surveyed said they do not want Biden to seek a second term, and 29% indicated he should. Among those who opposed Biden’s second term, 45% said he should not make a second bid because “he’s a bad president,” 30% said Biden, who is about to turn 80 this year, is “too old” and 26% said, “it’s time for a change.” Additionally, 60% of voters have doubts about Biden’s mental fitness for office. The poll was conducted from June 28-29, 2022 among 1,308 registered U.S. voters. It is a collaboration of the Center for American Political Studies at Harvard University and the Harris Poll.

Mark Penn, co-director of the Harvard CAPS–Harris Poll weighed in, saying Biden may want to run again, but “the voters say ‘no,’” The Hill reported. Penn also noted, “only 30 percent of Democrats would even vote for him [Biden] in a Democratic presidential primary,” the outlet continued. ‘Restrictive’ Gun and Ammunition Controls Failed to Prevent Copenhagen Attack

Denmark has some of the most stringent gun controls in the world, yet numerous people were shot and some killed Sunday at the Field’s shopping mall in Copenhagen.

Danish police confirmed multiple people were shot at the mall and that “several” have been killed, Breitbart News reported.

Police inspector Søren Thomassen said, “We know that there are several dead…[and] several injured,” according to the Associated Press.

The University of Sydney’s GunPolicy.org categorizes Denmark’s gun control as “restrictive,” and they note that “the right to gun ownership is not guaranteed by law.”

Moreover, Denmark requires would-be gun owners to first get a license from the government. Only licensed individuals may own or transfer a gun and ammunition. Also, even with a license individuals can only purchase ammunition that matches the firearm(s) they own. Biden Immigration Policy Leading to Mass Death

President Joe Biden’s border with Mexico is the deadliest land crossing in the world, according to a United Nations group, the International Organization for Migration.

“More than 1,238 lives have been lost during migration in the [north, central and south] Americas in 2021, among them at least 51 children,” said the group’s July 1 report.

“At least 728 of these deaths occurred on the United States-Mexico border crossing, making this the deadliest land crossing in the world,” said the IOM statement, which added:

“The number of deaths on the United States-Mexico border last year is significantly higher than in any year prior, even before COVID-19,” said Edwin Viales, author of the new IOM report on migrants in the Americas in 2021. “Yet, this number remains an undercount.”

The record number of deaths reflects the mass migration up to the border — where Biden’s border chief, Alejandro Mayorkas, is dangling work permits and jobs to more than a million foreigners. (Read more from “Biden Immigration Policy Leading to Mass Death” HERE)

States See Spike in Gas Tax Heading Into July 4th Weekend

Ahead of the upcoming Fourth of July holiday weekend, several states have imposed an increase in state gas taxes.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February, gas prices in the U.S. have continued to rise with the national average currently set at $4.842, according to data from AAA. In comparison, on the same day last year, the national average gas price was listed at $3.123.

Several states, such as Indiana, South Carolina, Missouri, Maryland, Virginia and California have increased their state gas tax effective Friday, July 1.

The increase in state gas tax across these different areas comes ahead of the Fourth of July weekend, where millions of Americans are expected to travel via car. AAA recently estimated that 47.9 million people will travel via car over the upcoming holiday weekend, driving at least 50 miles. It’s not just gas that’s increasing though. Some of your favorite July 4 foods have increased prices, too. (Read more from “States See Spike in Gas Tax Heading Into July 4th Weekend” HERE)

Poll: Trump’s Lead on Biden Increases in Hypothetical Matchup

Former President Trump’s lead on President Joe Biden increased over the last month, an Emerson College Polling survey released Friday found.

Biden’s approval rating is underwater, down 13 percent as 40 percent approve and 53 percent disapprove of his job performance. However, that reflects a two-point uptick in approval since last month.

Despite that, the survey found former President Trump increasing his lead in a hypothetical match-up against Biden. According to the survey, 44 percent choose Trump in a hypothetical 2024 presidential matchup, compared to 39 percent who said the same for Biden. Another 12 percent indicated they would vote for someone else, and five percent remain unsure.

Trump’s five-point lead reflects an increase from May’s results:

Marvel to Introduce Gay Spider-Man

Marvel Comics will introduce a variant character of a gay Spider-Man with a “fearlessly femme” identity.

The writer of one of the Spider-Man comics revealed the name of the gay Spider-Man and some character costume designs on his Twitter account Thursday.

“Something I realized immediately when conceiving Web-Weaver is that he can’t — and shouldn’t — represent ALL gay men. No single character can,” said Steve Foxe in the tweet.

“His fearlessly femme identity is central to who he is, but it’s not the STORY— which you can experience for yourself in September!” he added.

Foxe later protected his tweets so that only his followers could access them. (Read more from “Marvel to Introduce Gay Spider-Man” HERE)

Vasectomies Soar After SCOTUS Overturns Roe

Younger men who either don’t want or fear having children, no longer confident that the women in their life can abort their babies because of the SCOTUS decision overturning Roe v. Wade, are surging in their desire for vasectomies.

Urologists and staff at medical offices around the country have noticed an increase in demand for vasectomies.

“A vasectomy is permanent male sterilization,” Dr. Puneet Masson, Assistant Professor of Urology and Director of the Male Fertility Program at Penn Fertility Care, stated. “That being said, life changes—it’s a very dynamic process.”

“Dr. Alex Shteynshlyuger, director of urology at New York Urology Specialists in Midtown Manhattan, estimated that calls about vasectomy procedures to his office have soared by more than 500 percent this week with many consultations booked for July and younger men jumping on the bandwagon,” the New York Post reported.

“Staff at medical offices told The Post that they have been stunned by the number of childless, younger men asking about the procedure during which the tubes that carry sperm are cut or blocked,” the Post added. (Read more from “Vasectomies Soar After SCOTUS Overturns Roe” HERE)
