Man Receives Life Sentence After Killing Friend Over Mayonnaise

An Iowa man received a life sentence Monday after he ran over and killed his friend with his truck following a bar fight that started when he put mayonnaise on his friend’s food.

Kristofer Erlbacher received the life sentence for a deadly incident that started Dec. 17, 2020, while he and the victim, Caleb Solberg, were at a bar with a third person. Erlbacher spread mayonnaise on Solberg’s food, prompting Solberg to punch him and the violence to escalate from there, according to the Des Moines Register. . .

After that fight stopped, Erlbacher left the café, got into his 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck and used it to crash into Pryor’s vehicle while Pryor occupied it, the Des Moines Register reported. He then slammed his truck again into the vehicle when Pryor left the vehicle to survey the damage, according to a criminal complaint.

Erlbacher later crashed his vehicle into Solberg, who did not die in the first collision, according to the Des Moines Register. Erlbacher crashed into Solberg a second time before running over him again. Solberg died of his injuries. (Read more from “Man Receives Life Sentence After Killing Friend Over Mayonnaise” HERE)

Gamer Breaks Neck While Wearing Virtual Reality Headset

A German gamer has broken his neck while wearing a virtual reality headset after he moved too “intensely.”

Doctors claim the 31-year-old’s “repetitive” movements led to the neck being damaged — before part of the bone finally “cracked.”

The man went to the hospital after experiencing a piercing pain in his shoulders.

X-ray scans later revealed the man had fractured his C7 neck vertebra — which sits near the base of the neck above the shoulders.

Experts from the University of Leipzig Hospital, who treated the gamer, believe it is the world’s first documented of VR-related “stress fracture.”

Researchers say the unidentified man’s injury resembled ones seen in runners and soldiers as detailed in a medical journal, MailOnline found. (Read more from “Gamer Breaks Neck While Wearing Virtual Reality Headset” HERE)

Fear Grows of ‘Killer Lake’ Eruption That Would Release Gas Cloud and Kill Millions

Researchers are concerned that a ‘killer’ lake in Africa could be fatal to millions, according to studies.

Freshwater experts are warning that Lake Kivu, situated between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, is harboring potentially explosive gases.

Kivu is one of Africa’s great ‘rift’ lakes as it has formed over an area of extensional tectonics in the continental crust.

Nearby is Mount Nyiragongo, one of the world’s most active volcanos, which sends lava towards Lake Kivu whenever it erupts.

Over thousands of years, volcanic activity from Mount Nyiragongo has caused an immense amount of dissolved methane and carbon dioxide to accumulate under Kivu’s surface. (Read more from “Fear Grows of ‘Killer Lake’ Eruption That Would Release Gas Cloud and Kill Millions” HERE)

Woman Sick After Coming in Contact With Escaped Lab Monkeys

Questions are swirling after a woman became sick after coming in contact with an overturned truck of macaque monkeys on their way to a Florida lab.

Pennsylvania resident Michelle Fallon was driving directly behind a truck carrying 100 cynomolgus macaque monkeys last week when the vehicle was hit by a dump truck, throwing the pricey primate crates all over the highway, according to Pennsylvania State Police. Three macaques escaped, but all have since been captured and euthanized. The 97 remaining monkeys, which arrived in the United States from Mauritius, have been accounted for and transported to their destination.

Fallon said she got out of her car and helped the driver put the animals in their cages. She initially thought the animals were cats but quickly realized her mistake when she put her hand on the cage and a monkey hissed at her.

Fallon posted on Facebook that after coming in contact with one of the macaques, she got sick with a nasty cough and pink eye so severe she had to go to the emergency room at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Infectious disease doctors gave her the first of four rabies shots and antiviral drugs. Fallon posted she was monitoring for symptoms of rabies and monkey herpesvirus B but said her “symptoms are covid symptoms. Like seriously. A day from hell!” (Read more from “Woman Sick After Coming in Contact With Escaped Lab Monkeys” HERE)

Cracker Barrel Ordered to Pay Millions to Customer Who Was Served Chemical

A jury in Tennessee ordered Cracker Barrel to pay a man millions for serving him a glass filled with a cleaning chemical instead of water — but he’ll get far less due to a cap on damages, according to his attorney.

A Marion County jury awarded William Cronnon, whose mouth and esophagus were burned during an April 2014 visit to the country-themed restaurant chain, $4.3 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages on Jan. 6, court documents obtained by WTVC show.

But Cronnon will receive only about $750,000 — despite a jury finding that Cracker Barrel acted negligently — due to a limit on economic damages, his attorney told the station Thursday.

“This is an unfair law,” attorney Thomas Greer said. “He will not receive anything close to what he is entitled to.”

A jury determined Cracker Barrel was at fault for serving Cronnon a glass filled with Eco-San sanitizer instead of water during his 2014 visit to a Marion County location. The chemical used to clean kitchen surfaces had been kept in unmarked pitchers, court documents show. Several Students Exposed to Fentanyl at Connecticut School, One Dies of Overdose

A 13-year-old student died Saturday after suffering from a fentanyl overdose at a school in Hartford, Connecticut.

Hartford police responded to a report from the Sport and Medical Sciences Academy Thursday when the boy collapsed in the gymnasium, two other students were reportedly exposed to the fentanyl as well, WTNH reported.

“Initial reports indicate that CPR was initiated by the school nurse on one student and HFD personnel took over performing CPR until relieved by responding medics,” said Mario Oquendo Jr., public information officer for the Hartford Fire Department, according to WFSB. “Rhythm returned for that student and CPR was stopped.”

The two other students who were exposed reportedly complained of feeling dizzy and all three students were rushed to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center to be treated. The boy eventually succumbed to the overdose while the other two were released from the hospital, according to WTNH.

A teacher was reportedly taken to Hartford Hospital, but later claimed that she was upset about what had happened and was taken back to the school to be treated, according to WFSB. (Read more from “Several Students Exposed to Fentanyl at Connecticut School, One Dies of Overdose” HERE)

Police Shoot and Kill Critically Endangered Tiger to Free Man Who Stuck His Arm in Cage

Florida police say they were forced to shoot and kill a critically endangered tiger at the Naples Zoo after it bit and seriously injured a man who had entered a restricted area and reached into the animal’s enclosure.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, the injured man was a member of a third-party cleaning service contracted by the zoo. After the zoo had closed for the day on Wednesday, he entered an unauthorized area near a tiger that was inside its enclosure, police said.

Investigators say the man was either petting or feeding the animal, “both of which are unauthorized and dangerous activities,” when he was attacked.

“Initial reports indicate that the tiger grabbed the man’s arm and pulled it into the enclosure after the the man traversed an initial fence barrier and put his arm through the fencing of the tiger enclosure,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.

Police were called to the zoo at 6:26 p.m. The first deputy to arrive on the scene kicked the tiger enclosure in an unsuccessful attempt to get the animal to release the man’s arm from its mouth. When that didn’t work, the deputy was “forced to shoot” the tiger, police said. (Read more from “Police Shoot and Kill Critically Endangered Tiger to Free Man Who Stuck His Arm in Cage” HERE)

Study Finds Discontinued Lego Sets Are a Better Investment Than Gold

Forget Blockchain — investors might want to consider putting their money into LEGO blocks, which appreciate faster than even gold, according to a recent study.

Researchers at Moscow’s Higher School of Economics found retired LEGO sets appreciated in value 11 percent annually from 1987 to 2015 — more than gold, stocks or bonds.

LEGO sets get pricier over time thanks to “high collectible value” combined with diminishing supply, the report said. Most LEGO sets are discontinued after a few years.

LEGO prices are relatively unaffected by the stock market, the study found, and increased during the 2008 financial crisis. (Read more from “Study Finds Discontinued Lego Sets Are a Better Investment Than Gold” HERE)

Not a Joke: Tennessee Husband Reportedly Saves Wife by Choking Out Attacking Kangaroo

In a bizarre story out of Middle Tennessee, a number of kangaroos escaped from an exotic wildlife refuge in Middle Tennessee and reportedly attacked a married couple who were attempting to herd it back into its enclosure, forcing the husband to take swift and deadly action against one of the animals.

According to WSMV-TV, Sumner County police are investigating the incident, which apparently began when an unknown number of kangaroos escaped their enclosure in what was described as an “exotic animal collection” in White House, Tennessee. According to iHeart radio news, a married couple that lived near the area spotted the loose animals and were attempting to coax them back into their enclosure when the attack occurred. . .

During the course of attempting to herd the kangaroos back to their enclosure, one of the kangaroos apparently became hostile and attacked the couple, whereupon the husband reportedly sprang into action, placing the kangaroo in a chokehold to prevent it from further attacking his wife. Terrifying Rise of AI ‘Slaughterbots’ Programmed to Kill

A Superpower arms race to build killer robots could wipe out humanity if left unchecked, experts fear.

The doomsday warning comes after a UN conference failed to agree a ban on Terminator-style “slaughterbots” – which are being developed by China, Russia and the US.

Major powers are investing billions to create advanced AI weapons that can hunt and strike targets with no input from controllers.

Last year a Turkish-made kamikaze drone made the world’s first autonomous kill on human targets in Libya, a UN report revealed.

But experts warn the technology is advancing so fast, governments and societies have not properly considered the dangers. (Read more from “Terrifying Rise of AI ‘Slaughterbots’ Programmed to Kill” HERE)
