One Rare Mineral May Spell Doom for Electric Vehicle Market

Lithium — a mineral that is key for electric car batteries — continues to rise in price, jeopardizing the ongoing transition to renewable energy outlined by Western governments.

The cost of lithium has skyrocketed more than 250% over the last 12 months, hitting its highest level ever, according to an industry index from Benchmark Mineral Intelligence. While the cost of manufacturing a lithium-ion battery for an electric vehicle (EV) has fallen sharply over the last decade, the decline has slowed in recent months due to rising lithium costs.

The average cost of an EV battery pack fell to $157 per kilowatt hour, a measure of energy capacity, in 2021, the Department of Energy said in October. That means a typical EV battery is between $6,000 and $7,000, a BloombergNEF analysis showed.

Battery costs would need to come down to $100 per kilowatt hour for overall EV prices to compete with traditional internal combustion engine cars, according to Bloomberg. The price of lithium will play a large role in achieving that goal. (Read more from “One Rare Mineral May Spell Doom for Electric Vehicle Market” HERE)

This Will Get Under Your Skin: Vaccine Passports in a Very Creepy Place

. . .The vaccination certificate of the future will get under your skin, according to researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

A color pattern with the vaccination dose is injected into the skin and not visible to the naked eye. The color contains quantum dots no larger than a few nanometers.

In December 2019, Robert S. Langer and his team developed and patented a technique whereby transdermal patches could be used to label people with invisible ink to store medical and other information subcutaneously – under the skin. The research “was funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research.”

When the quantum dots are illuminated by UV light, an electron in the quantum dot can be excited to a state of higher energy. In vitro studies, based on cell cultures, on quantum dots suggest that their toxicity may derive from multiple factors including their physicochemical characteristics. . .

The researchers claim the invisible form of the vaccination card is primarily intended for regions where vaccination cards are easily lost and the equipment needed by authorities to read the information encapsulated in the arm is not expensive. There are already smartphones with a built-in infrared camera that come standard. (Read more from “This Will Get Under Your Skin: Vaccine Passports in a Very Creepy Place” HERE)

Man Kicked off Flight After He Protests Mask Policy by Wearing a Thong Over His Face

A Florida man was kicked off a United Airlines flight Wednesday for wearing a thong over his head as a face mask.

Adam Jenne believes the face mask requirement for air travel is ridiculous, so he wanted to attempt to follow the rule in a silly way, according to Fox 4.

“There’s nothing more absurd than having to wear a mask until I get to cruising altitude so I can order Tito’s by the double and snack on pretzels, and illustrating that absurdity by wearing women’s underwear on my face sounds perfect,” Jenne said, reported Fox 4.

Several passengers allegedly followed Jenne off the plane to show support for him, according to Fox 4. (Read more from “Man Kicked off Flight After He Protests Mask Policy by Wearing a Thong Over His Face” HERE)

Man Nearly Killed by Swarm of Otters in Singapore

. . .A British man in Singapore said he was attacked by a swarm of otters while on a recent morning walk, an incident that left him with approximately 26 bites and puncture wounds.

“I didn’t move quick enough and they just jumped me and they [were] on me and severely bit my ankle, made me buckle, and they jumped on my bottom and pushed me,” said Graham George Spencer, a British resident of Singapore in his 60s.

Spencer was finishing up his daily 6 a.m. walk with his friend when he spotted a group of “brown objects” on the path ahead, he said. The sun had barely risen, and Spencer had forgotten his glasses, making it difficult to discern what they were.

Upon approaching the creatures, Spencer believed it was a family of 20 otters, with pups in tow. At that same time, a runner sped by and startled the otters, after which the animals focused on Spencer and “went crazy,” he said.

The otters reportedly attacked Spencer for about 10 seconds before his friend started hollering and scaring the animals off, allowing Spencer to run away from the scene with otters in tow. They reached a nearby visitor center, where Spencer received medical support, and he was later escorted to the local hospital , where he received treatment. Scientists: ‘Young Blood’ Contains a Substance That Regenerates Aging Muscles

Dracula may have been onto something, as a new study finds “young blood” could reverse the aging process. Researchers from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center find that transfusions of serum may hold the key to preventing age-related diseases – including Alzheimer’s.

In experiments, giving older mice transfusions of certain proteins in blood plasma from youthful peers regenerated the rodents’ muscle cells. . .

Study authors find that “circulating shuttles” called extracellular vesicles (or EVs) deliver genetic instructions to a longevity protein known as Klotho. The team discovered older mice had fewer of these proteins than their younger counterparts. This may hold the key to why muscle power dwindles with age. The study builds on decades of research on mice showing young blood restores youthful features to cells and tissues.

“We wondered if extracellular vesicles might contribute to muscle regeneration because these couriers travel between cells via the blood and other bodily fluids,” says lead author Dr. Amrita Sahu. “Like a message in a bottle, EVs deliver information to target cells.”

The researchers collected serum samples from young mice. When they injected the young blood into aging mice, injured muscles regenerated and recovered their youthful function. Those receiving a placebo treatment remained frail. (Read more from “Scientists: ‘Young Blood’ Contains a Substance That Regenerates Aging Muscles” HERE)

Woman Caught Breastfeeding Hairless Cat on Flight Another Example That Society Has Gone Mad

For those who sense that something is seriously off-kilter in modern America, a bizarre story about the actions of a Delta Airlines passenger will likely confirm their suspicions as yet another example of cultural deterioration is grabbing attention.

On a recent flight from Syracuse to Atlanta, passengers were reportedly shocked when an unidentified woman was observed breastfeeding her hairless cat in the middle of the flight and refused to stop when she was confronted by attendants.

Details were provided on TikTok by flight attendant Ainsley Elizabeth who, according to a Newsweek report, posted a video that “security met the flight because a woman was breastfeeding her cat.”

In a later post that elaborated on her first message, the flight attendant wrote, “This woman had one of those, like, hairless cats swaddled up in a blanket so it looked like a baby.”

“Her shirt was up and she was trying to get the cat to latch and she wouldn’t put the cat back in the carrier. And the cat was screaming for its life,” she added.

Here’s How Many Hours of Sleep a Night Are Associated With Cognitive Decline

A good night’s sleep is important for many reasons. It helps our body repair itself and function as it should, and is linked to better mental health and lower risk of many health conditions – including heart disease and diabetes. It’s also been shown that not getting enough sleep is linked to cognitive decline and conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.

But more isn’t always better, as one recent study found. Researchers from the Washington University School of Medicine have published a paper that indicates that just like getting too little sleep, sleeping too much may also be linked with cognitive decline.

The research team wanted to know how much sleep was linked to cognitive impairment over time. To do this, they looked at 100 older adults in their mid-to-late-70s on average, and tracked them for between four and five years. At the time of their study, 88 people did not show any signs of dementia, while 12 showed signs of cognitive impairment (one with mild dementia and 11 with the pre-dementia stage of mild cognitive impairment).

Throughout the study, participants were asked to complete a range of commonplace cognitive and neuropsychological tests to look for signs of cognitive decline or dementia. Their scores from these tests were then combined into a single score, called the Preclinical Alzheimer Cognitive Composite (PACC) score. The higher the score, the better their cognition was over time.

Sleep was measured using a single-electrode encephalography (EEG) device, which participants wore on their forehead while sleeping, for a total of between four to six nights. This was done once, three years after people first completed their annual cognitive tests. This EEG allowed the researchers to accurately measure brain activity, which would tell them whether or not someone was asleep (and for how long), and how restful that sleep was. Popular Household Drink May Be Secret to Living Longer Life

Research published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology has found that one common household drink could be the secret to a longer life. . .

Surprisingly, experts say that drinking tea can help people live longer.

The study, analysed more than 100,000 people with a history of cancer, heart attack or stroke.

They split the study into two groups: those that drank tea three or more times a week, and those who did not.

Over the seven or so years that followed, the research found that those who drank the drink regularly were 20 percent less likely to suffer from heart disease and stroke and less likely to be die from them. (Read more from “Popular Household Drink May Be Secret to Living Longer Life” HERE)

Report: Man Threw Himself in Front of Train, Lost Two Legs in Scheme to Collect Insurance Money

A Hungarian court has ruled that a man who lost both of his legs after being struck by a train stepped in front of the moving vehicle intentionally in order to collect millions of dollars in insurance payouts.

The man — identified in court documents as Sandor Cs. due to the country’s strict privacy laws — has claimed since July 30, 2014, that he stepped on glass, lost his balance, and fell onto the railroad tracks just outside a train station in the Hungarian village of Nyircsaszari.

But on Nov.9, the Pest Central District Court ruled that Cs. had deliberately put himself in the train’s path in an attempt to swindle the system. He was handed a two-year suspended prison sentence and ordered to pay more than $5,000 in legal fees, the Daily Mail reported.

Authorities in the country had reportedly suspected that the 54-year-old inflicted the injury himself on purpose in order to claim a $3.2 million insurance payout.

Their suspicions stemmed from the discovery that Cs. had taken out 14 high-risk life insurances policies in the year leading up to the strange incident. His wife attempted to file the claims soon after the incident, but the insurance companies refused to pay on grounds that the injury was caused intentionally.
