GOP Governor Who ‘Vanished for Sex’ May Run Against Trump

Mark Sanford, the former governor of South Carolina who once vanished without word to his office or family for nearly a week, is considering a primary challenge to President Trump.

His explanation for his 2009 vanishing act was that he was hiking the Appalachian trail. But it turned out he had secretly flown to Brazil to spend six days with his mistress.

The Post and Courier of Charleston, South Carolina, reports Sanford said “he will take the next month to formulate whether he will mount a potential run against Trump.”

He said a run for president would be “a way of pushing a national debate about America’s mounting debt, deficit and government spending.”

Sanford retired from Congress last year. He previously served as governor of South Carolina and was popular among Republicans nationally. (Read more from “GOP Governor Who ‘Vanished for Sex’ May Run Against Trump” HERE)

Trump to Announce Executive Action on Census Citizenship Question

President Trump will announce an executive action to add the citizenship question to the 2020 census, two senior administration officials have confirmed to CBS News. He tweeted that he’ll be making a statement on the topic Thursday afternoon.

The anticipated 5 p.m. announcement comes as the president exhibits frustration over the Supreme Court decision blocking the Trump administration from adding the question, ruling that his administration had failed to provide adequate justification for the question. Multiple legal battles over the question are still playing out in lower courts.

It isn’t yet clear exactly what kind of executive action the president will take. Mr. Trump initially described his announcement as a news conference, but the updated White House schedule only described the event as remarks — meaning reporters might not have an opportunity to ask questions. Attorney General William Barr is expected to be at the president’s announcement. . .

The House has set a date of July 16 to vote to hold Barr and Commerce Department Secretary Wilbur Ross in contempt of Congress for refusing to respond to questions about the census.

“These documents could shed light on the real reason that the Trump Administration tried to add the citizenship question,” House Oversight and Reform Chairman Elijah Cummings said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the administration is stonewalling our investigation and obstructing our efforts to get the information we need to do our jobs. We should not be forced to take these extreme actions to get the documents and information we need to conduct a thorough investigation. I urge Attorney General Barr and Secretary Ross to change course and produce the documents we have subpoenaed on a bipartisan basis so the House is not forced to hold them in contempt of Congress.” (Read more from “Trump to Announce Executive Action on Census Citizenship Question” HERE)

New Poll Shows President Trump Beating Top 2020 Dems

President Donald Trump is poised to beat a handful of top-tier Democratic presidential candidates in the 2020 election, while losing to others, according to a new poll of head-to-head matchups.

The latest poll from Emerson College is yet another reflecting positively for Trump, who has a number of advantages and disadvantages going into the 2020 election as nearly two dozen Democrats are all vying to unseat him from the White House.

Trump edges out several candidates 51-49, including rising Democratic stars such as Sen. Kamala Harris of California, Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, and South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

The race gets tougher for Trump when facing former Vice President Joe Biden, who according to the poll would beat the incumbent Republican 53-47. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont also wins a head-to-head matchup 51% to Trump’s 49%.

The poll also gave Trump a decisive edge over his Republican primary challenger in former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld, leading the former Libertarian Party vice presidential nominee 91-9. (Read more from “New Poll Shows President Trump Beating Top 2020 Dems” HERE)

Watch: GOP Mocks Democrat ‘Civil War’ in New Video

On Tuesday, the official Twitter account for the Republican National Committee released a brutal video targeting Congressional Democrats’ “civil war” between the old Left — headed by House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) — and new Left, including radical freshman lawmakers Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA).

The video, entitled “Democrat Civil War: Socialism Rising,” cuts between clips of controversies generated by the newcomers and experienced representatives, such as Pelosi, belittling the newcomers’ “influence.”

One of the controversies covered in the clip includes Rep. Omar’s past comments concerning Jewish lawmakers’ supposed “dual allegiance” to Israel. . .

Last week, another heated exchange between the two sects broke out. As reported by The Daily Wire’s Emily Zanotti on Monday, Pelosi hit back at the freshman progressives in The New York Times for refusing to “fall in line behind the Democratic caucus and approve a $4.5 billion emergency spending bill aimed at addressing the humanitarian crisis at the southern border, even after the quartet complained loudly of the treatment asylum seekers were receiving.”

“All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world. But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got,” Pelosi said, later adding, “We have to have a solution, not just a Twitter fight. If the left doesn’t think I’m left enough, so be it.” (Read more from “Watch: Gop Mocks Democrat ‘Civil War’ in New Video” HERE)

U.S. Voters Support Criminally Prosecuting Illegal Aliens

A 2020 Democrat plan to decriminalize illegal border crossings at the United States-Mexico border has little support among the American electorate, a new poll finds.

The latest poll by The Hill/HarrisX finds that a plurality of American voters said they support criminally prosecuting illegal aliens who cross the nation’s borders illegally into the U.S.

More than 4-in-10 voters, or about 41 percent, said they supported criminal prosecutions for illegal aliens rather than charging them with civil penalties, as multiple 2020 Democrat presidential primary candidates have endorsed, including Bernie Sanders, Julian Castro, Elizabeth Warren, Pete Buttigieg, Kamala Harris, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Eric Swalwell. . .

Nearly 7-in-10 Republican voters, a plurality of 36 percent of swing voters, and even 24 percent of Democrat voters said they support criminally prosecuting illegal border crossers. A majority of 53 percent of rural voters said they too preferred criminal prosecutions for illegal aliens over less than 30 percent who said they supported changing the law to fine illegal aliens with civil penalties. . .

The Democrats’ plan to decriminalize illegal immigration would make it so that the millions of illegal aliens and border crossers who have inundated the nation’s borders over the past decade would be treated as civil violators, rather than being criminally prosecuted. Today, there are roughly 11 to 22 million illegal aliens living throughout the U.S., about half of whom illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border. Look Out, Democrats: Trump Surges to All-Time High in New Poll

President Trump’s job approval rating has jumped to 47 percent in a new poll from the Washington Post and ABC News, his highest-ever mark in the series. He is only three points underwater (47/50) among registered voters, according to the numbers. As usual, there are red flags for Team Trump peppered throughout the data — but some of the top lines suggest that if the US economy remains in strong shape one year from now, the incumbent will be formidable, in spite of his perennially mediocre-to-poor public approval levels. In this snapshot, Trump’s standing is essentially the same as Barack Obama’s at this point in the 2012 election cycle:

President Trump’s approval rating has hit the highest point in his presidency, according to a new poll by the Washington Post and ABC News. The poll, which was released on Sunday, found that 47 percent of registered voters approve of Trump’s work inside the White House – a five point jump since April. Fifty percent of registered voters, however, still disapprove of Trump’s job in office. In comparison, Barack Obama’s approval rating during the same time in his first term was 46 percent…Despite [more than] six out of 10 Americans saying that Trump has acted in ways that are unpresidential, one-fifth of those voters still approve of the job the president is doing.

In addition to the survey showing Trump’s overall approval rating on the rise, a majority of registered voters also give a thumbs-up on his handling of the economy. On that crucial front (in case to you missed it during the long holiday weekend), job growth beat expectations in June, relieving concerns about May’s underwhelming unemployment report. And then there’s the historic milestone that passed largely unnoticed last week:

Trump-Hater Amash Might Run for President

Rep. Justin Amash took to the Sunday morning political programs to defend his July 4 editorial announcing his departure from the Republican Party — and suggested he may end up running for president.

Amash appeared first on CNN’s “State of the Union” to announced that he’s mulling over the possibility of running as a third party candidate for president. Amash is libertarian, but says he would be open to launching a bid as an Independent.

“I still wouldn’t rule anything like that out, I believe I have to use my skills, my public influence, where it serves the country best,” Amash said. “And I believe I have to defend the Constitution in whichever way that works best.”

When he runs to retain his Congressional seat in November, Amash will run as an Independent instead of as a Republican, a decision he announced in a widely touted op-ed published on July 4 — a declaration of independence, so to speak, from the GOP. In the essay, Amash says he isn’t blaming a single entity for his decision and did not name President Donald Trump, though Amash is, so far, the only Republican member of Congress to join the campaign to begin impeachment proceedings.

“I’ve had concerns with the Republican Party for several years,” Amash wrote. “I’ve had concerns with the party system generally. When I first got to Congress I thought I could change things from the inside, but as I’ve spent time there I’ve seen that not only me, I don’t think there is anyone in there who can change the system.” (Read more from “Trump-Hater Amash Might Run for President” HERE)

Trump Is Still on Track to Win 2020

. . .I’m here to tell you that Trump is even closer to winning reelection now than he was at the end of last year. I am not alone in this observation. The Cook Political Report’s Amy Walter is seeing the playing field much the same way I am.

Heading into 2020, Trump’s primary strengths remain incumbency — since 1900, nearly 80 percent of incumbent presidents have been reelected — and the economy. Since FDR, every incumbent president, “who has avoided a recession in the lead-up to an election year was re-elected.” A trade truce or deal with China will most likely ensure a recession does not occur before next November.

Contrarians point to national polls and the slew of battleground state surveys, including Florida, and argue Trump is losing “bigly” to a handful of candidates and is therefore toast. The situation is certainly not ideal for Trump, but early polling from previous presidential tilts suggests the media and anti-Trump forces are getting way ahead of themselves. Who can forget that in June of 1983, eventual Democratic nominee Walter Mondale was leading President Ronald Regan by 10 points or that in June of 2011 a generic Republican presidential candidate was leading President Obama by 5 points? . . .

So what does Trump need to do to win reelection? His team can start by taking a page out of the 2012 Obama campaign playbook — and that is precisely what the Trump campaign is doing.

As Obama 2012 campaign aide Ben LaBolt points out, recent successful incumbent presidents prevailed “by executing a two-year campaign to exploit a contentious primary on the other side, reconnect with their base of supporters, and define the election as a choice, not a referendum.” After all, who can forget Mitt Romney being labeled a serial dog-abuser long before he received the 2012 Republican presidential nomination as a result of once taking a family trip with the dog riding in its crate on the car roof? And It Looks like We Have Our First 2020 Democratic Drop Out

By Townhall. Well, it looks like we could have our first Democratic drop out for the 2020 race. Former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper has tried to get a foothold in this race. It hasn’t worked out. The collapse has been quite rapid. His staff was reportedly jumping ship, with his finance director leaving to join Beto O’Rourke’s (he’s really a white guy named Bob) campaign, which will also end in failure. Still, for those looking for work in this arena, Beto is a few more weeks of oxygen (via Politico):

The national finance director for John Hickenlooper’s presidential campaign is departing and joining rival Beto O’Rourke’s effort, O’Rourke’s campaign told POLITICO on Monday.

The aide, Dan Sorenson, is leaving the former two-term Colorado governor the day after the deadline for 2nd-quarter fundraising and after last week’s Democratic debate — an ominous sign for a presidential bid that has struggled to gain traction.

Twenty-four hours later, we have reports of Hickenlooper’s senior aides telling him to drop out…a month ago. Oh, and he’s about to completely run out of money:

The source said that the campaign only has about 13,000 donors, making it almost impossible to qualify for the next round of presidential debates in the fall. The campaign also only raised just over $1 million in the second quarter — about what he raised in the first 48 hours of his candidacy — and will likely run out of money completely in about a month.

2020 Democratic presidential candidates reveal second quarter fundraising efforts

By CBS News. The 2020 Democratic presidential candidates are revealing how deep and broad their support is, after 20 candidates met onstage in two consecutive nights for the first primary debates in June. . .

Every Democratic candidate is likely to fall well short of President Trump’s fundraising numbers in the second quarter. According to the Trump campaign, the president and his joint campaign committees raised $54 million while the Republican National Committee raised $51 million. The Trump campaign raised over $30 million in the first quarter of the year. . .

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders raised $24 million in the second quarter, according his campaign, although $6 million was transferred from previous accounts. . .

South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg raised $24.8 million in the second quarter of 2019, more than tripling his fundraising from the first quarter of the year and indicating his staying power in the race for the White House. Trump’s Campaign Manager Reveals His Thoughts About 2020

Trump 2020 campaign manager Brad Parscale isn’t worried about whoever emerges as the Democratic challenger next year and is confident the president will win four more years in the White House.

“I think the president could beat anybody. The momentum we’re seeing right now. I mean look… one hundred five million raised, a hundred million cash on hand. What we’re seeing overall the president success is overseas, the momentum behind this president right now is like nothing that history has ever seen,” Parscale said Tuesday on “The Story with Martha MacCallum” dismissing Democratic presidential contenders Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris and Pete Buttigieg’s rise in the polls and campaign fundraising.

The Trump campaign announced Tuesday that its re-election operation raised a whopping $105 million in the second quarter, significantly more than Democrats have been pulling in.

A Quinnipiac poll released Tuesday showed Joe Biden at 22 percent, down 8 points from a prior poll in June. Harris, meanwhile, soared from just 7 percent to 20 percent in the latest survey, putting her in a statistical tie with the Democratic powerhouse. Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren held steady at 14 percent. . .

“We’re not even in the main portion of the campaign yet where we’re already raising large numbers, this president in the voice he has, the message he can control, in the way he can control what’s happening on the media. No one can touch this,” Parscale said. (Read more from “Trump’s Campaign Manager Reveals His Thoughts About 2020” HERE)
