Gay Candidate Buttigieg Knocks Own Supporters for Being Too White

Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Indiana, an unexpected early frontrunner for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, is criticizing his own supporters for being too white after questions about the “lack of diversity” at his events and among his campaign staff.

Buttigieg, who is the first openly gay presidential candidate, was asked about the lack of racial diversity at a fundraiser in New York. He responded “that he is aware of the lack of diversity at some of his presidential campaign events, including the fundraiser he was headlining,” according to a CNN report.

He asked his audience for their help: “The honest answer to that question is I need your help. I need your help reaching out to anybody that could benefit from a more inclusive and more hopeful politics. And that is something that has no color.”

As of the latest polls, Democratic Party primary voters favor four white men: Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), former Vice President Joe Biden (who has not yet declared his candidacy), former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX), and Buttigieg. That result has surprised and upset some on the left — and candidates are eager to assuage their criticisms. Trump Campaign Rakes in MAJOR Money During First Quarter

President Trump’s re-election campaign raised $30.3 million in the first quarter of this year, far pacing the leading fundraisers among the Democrats, Fox News confirmed Sunday.

The Trump campaign said nearly 99 percent of its donations were of $200 or less, with an average donation of $34.26. In all, the campaign had $40.8 million cash on hand, an unprecedented war chest for an incumbent president this early in the campaign.

Trump’s fundraising ability was matched by the Republican National Committee, which brought in $45.8 million in the first quarter — its highest non-election year total. Combined, the pro-Trump effort reported $82 million in the bank. The numbers were reported first by The Associated Press.

Trump formally launched his reelection effort just hours after taking office in 2017, earlier than any incumbent had in prior years. By contrast, former President Barack Obama launched his 2012 effort in April 2011 and had under $2 million on hand at this point in the campaign. Obama went on to raise more than $720 million for his reelection. Trump’s reelection effort has set a $1 billion target for 2020.

Among Trump’s would-be Democratic challengers, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders was leading the money race after taking in $18.2 million in the first quarter of this year. He was followed by California Sen. Kamala Harris, with $12 million. Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke ($9.4 million), South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg ($7 million) and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren ($6 million) rounded out the top five fundraisers among Democrats. (Read more from “Trump Campaign Rakes in MAJOR Money During First Quarter” HERE)

Swalwell Is Running for President. Here’s People’s Instant Reaction.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) on Monday announced his intention for running for president on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.” . . .

Not everyone was excited about the what they saw. In fact, Swalwell has made a name for himself as anti-gunner and, like practically every other 2020 Democrat, plans to run on the gun control issue.

2020 Dems Go After Biden Over Assault Scandal

A number of Democratic presidential candidates weighed in on Sunday on the allegations made by a former Nevada political candidate that former Vice President Joe Biden kissed her on the back of the head in 2014.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., told ABC’s “This Week” that she has no reason not to believe the allegations made by Lucky Flores that Biden kissed the former Nevada state assemblywoman on the back of her head during a 2014 campaign rally supporting her bid for lieutenant governor.

“I have no reason not to believe her,” Klobuchar said. “I think we know from campaigns and politics that people raise issues and they have to address them, and that’s what he will have to do with the voters if he gets into the race.” . . .

In my many years on the campaign trail and in public life, I have offered countless handshakes, hugs, expressions of affection, support and comfort,” [Joe] Biden said in his own statement Sunday. “And not once — never — did I believe I acted inappropriately. If it is suggested I did so, I will listen respectfully. But it was never my intention.” . . .

Earlier in the weekend, while speaking to reporters in Iowa, two other Democratic candidates – Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro said they believed Flores. (Read more from “2020 Dems Go After Biden Over Assault Scandal” HERE)

New Poll Has Great News for President Trump

According to a new Hill-HarrisX survey released on Monday, a majority of registered voters are now open to re-electing President Trump. In even better news for Trump, the survey was conducted before the submission of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report that exonerated the president of any possible Russian “collusion” allegations stemming from the 2016 presidential election.

The Hill reports:

Fifty-four percent in the Hill-HarrisX survey released Monday said they would think about voting for Trump, though 46 percent of registered voters said they would not even consider casting a ballot for the president.

The polling was conducted before a summary of special counsel Robert Mueller’s conclusions was released on Sunday by Attorney General William Barr. That summary reported that Mueller did not find evidence of collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia, a huge win for the president.

. . .

Trump’s re-election will also likely be made either easier or more difficult by the presidential nominee that Democratic Party primary voters ultimately select. As Henry Olsen of the Ethics and Public Policy Center demonstrated earlier this month in The Washington Post, Trump’s head-to-head numbers in key battleground states increase in direct proportion to the increased leftism of his possible Democratic opponent. 2020 Poll Does Not Have Good News for Trump

The survey, published Sunday, found that Trump would lose to both former Vice President Joe Biden — who has yet to formally announce a presidential campaign, although he is expected to enter the race — and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who narrowly lost the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016.

The poll found that Trump trails Biden by seven percentage points among registered voters, 47 percent to 40 percent. Similarly, Trump tails Sanders by three percentage points, 44 percent to 41 percent.

Additionally, the poll found Trump would only narrowly beat the leading female Democratic candidates, Sens. Kamala Harris (Calif.) and Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), defeating them each by just two percentage points. Unfortunately for Trump, those numbers are within the poll’s margin of error.

Biden Looks to Announce 2020 Run, Reveal VP Pick

On Thursday morning, media reports claimed former Vice President Joe Biden, who is expected to announce his 2020 presidential bid any day now, will do so as in a “packaged” deal, with his number two likely being failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams.

“Close advisers to former Vice President Joe Biden are debating the idea of packaging his presidential campaign announcement with a pledge to choose Stacey Abrams as his vice president,” reported Axios.

The New York Times published a similar report concerning a Biden/Abrams ticket, though the outlet noted that other young Democrats’ names are still being shopped around for the full-ticket announcement, such as Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) and failed Senate candidate Robert “Beto” O’Rourke. . .

An Abrams-pick for VP would clearly be a way for Biden to add to his ticket some much sought after racial and gender diversity, which is weighty currency to Democrat officials. For example, 2020 hopeful O’Rourke already made it clear that it is his “preference” to have a female VP ticket if he were to get the Democrat nomination.

Racial activist Al Sharpton, for example, told Axios that the “Abrams move could help Biden by mitigating objections to his treatment of Anita Hill during Justice Clarence Thomas’ confirmation.” And the Times notes, “With a younger but still accomplished vice-presidential nominee at his side, Mr. Biden could hope to demonstrate his commitment to diversity and to restoring stability to Washington.” (Read more from “Biden Looks to Announce 2020 Run, Reveal vp Pick” HERE)

New Presidential Polls Show Drastically Declining Support for This Dem

According to political polling expert Harry Enten, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has been plummeting in the latest round of 2020 Democratic presidential polls. Enten wrote at CNN yesterday:

Our new CNN poll puts Sanders favorable rating at 46% compared to an unfavorable rating of 45% among registered voters. This is only the latest poll to have Sanders at basically even in his net favorability rating (favorable-unfavorable). A Quinnipiac University poll from late December gave the Vermont senator a net favorability of just +2 points. An average of all recent polls put Sanders’ net favorability at about -1 points.

. . .

Enten then speculates as to why this precipitous decline in Sanders’ favorability number may have transpired:

So, what’s changed? I’d argue that Sanders was benefiting from not being in a competitive campaign. (Former Vice President Joe Biden, who has garnered the most support in general election polls among the Democrats, may be benefiting from a similar effect.) When you’re not being thought of a viable threat to win a party’s nomination, opponents tend to lay off. The last time Sanders was thought of as at least a minor threat to win the Democratic nomination was in March 2016. His net favorability rating back then among all voters was +3 points in a CNN poll.

. . .

Sanders, famously, was the 2016 Democratic presidential field runner-up, behind nominee Hillary Clinton. As Paul Sperry wrote at The New York Post in January 2016, Sanders’ career history is rife with open support for Communist regimes and sundry Marxist causes. Beto Reveals Support for 3rd Trimester Abortions

By Breitbart. Appearing Monday at a campaign stop in Cleveland, Ohio, 2020 Democrat candidate Beto O’Rourke said he believes it’s a woman’s right to decide whether she should undergo a third-trimester abortion, signaling he would not support government intervening to prevent the procedure.

Beto’s Rocky Rollout: O’Rourke Drawing Crowds and Cash, but Stumbles out of the Gate

By Fox News. Beto O’Rourke raised a whopping $6.1 million in his first 24 hours as a presidential candidate, while drawing big crowds — and a herd of reporters — as he campaigned across Iowa and Wisconsin after launching his 2020 bid.

But despite riding a wave of media fanfare, the former three-term congressman from Texas has stumbled out of the gate with a string of apologies and clarifications.

While the fundraising and large crowds show the charismatic contender is a force to be reckoned with in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, the series of missteps amount to signs that O’Rourke’s nascent campaign may need some fine-tuning — and fast.

In one widely covered gaffe, O’Rourke apologized for joking at several events on Thursday and Friday that his wife Amy had been raising the couple’s three children “sometimes with my help.”

Discussing the comments – amid concern they spotlighted gender stereotypes – O’Rourke promised, “not only will I not say that again, but I’ll be more thoughtful going forward in the way that I talk about our marriage.” (Read more from “Beto’s Rocky Rollout: O’Rourke Drawing Crowds and Cash, but Stumbles out of the Gate” HERE)

Beto Takes One Question on Guns — Gives an Answer Both Sides Will Hate

Democratic 2020 hopeful Beto O’Rourke answered one question about guns during a Friday podcast — and his answer is likely to alienate both sides of the debate. . .

He began by talking about the AR-15, claiming that it was designed for military use and was intended to be a weapon of war. He argued that the “high-impact, high-velocity round” would “blow a hole in your back the size of an orange,” leaving you to bleed out long before anyone could get help to you.

While bullets fired from an AR-15 are certainly lethal from a variety of distances, even Snopes isn’t sure that the orange-sized exit wound is an entirely accurate representation. The size of the exit wound, according to a number of experts, is determined in part by the amount of internal damage and any damaged tissue exiting the body along with the bullet.

But fact-check aside, the first part of O’Rourke’s response appeared to line right up with most who assert that “common-sense gun regulations” means keeping “weapons of war” off the streets. . .

An op-ed published in the Durango Herald just two weeks after the Parkland shooting in 2018 called for a specific AR-15 buyback. Just two months later, Democratic California Rep. Eric Swalwell took it a step further, submitting an op-ed to USA Today titled, “Ban Assault Weapons, Buy Them Back, Go After Resisters.” (Read more from “Beto Takes One Question on Guns — Gives an Answer Both Sides Will Hate” HERE)
