Furious Backlash: Liberal Reporter Slammed for Scolding Family of American Hero Killed in Kabul

Politico co-congressional bureau chief Heather Caygle is facing intense backlash for scolding the Gold Star family of one of the U.S. service members killed in the Kabul terrorist attack last month for not wearing masks during a tour in the Capitol Building.

Caygle took to Twitter on Thursday and shared a photograph featuring Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Calif, with a mostly maskless group of people in a mostly empty Statuary Hall.

“Masks requirement in the House. Tours not allowed. Yet here we are — group of 9, only 2 in masks,” Caygle swiped the group.

The journalist doubled down even after she was told McClintock was leading a tour for the family of Marine Sgt. Nicole Gee, who was among the 13 Americans who died from the suicide bombing at the Kabul airport amid the chaotic military withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Republicans Call on Marine Corps to Release Jailed LT. Col. Stu Scheller

Republicans in the House and Senate are calling on the Marine Corps to release Marine Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller, who was thrown in a military jail this week after he criticized military leadership for the botched Afghanistan withdrawal on social media and continued posting about his disposition.

According to a Marine Corps spokesperson, Scheller is currently in pre-trial confinement in the Regional Brig for Marine Corps Installations East aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune pending an Article 32 preliminary hearing. The time, date, and location of the proceedings have not been determined.

The Marine Corps notes that he has not been charged with anything but the “general nature” of offenses being considered at the hearing are:

Article 88 (contempt toward officials)
Article 90 (willfully disobeying superior commissioned officer)
Article 92 (failure to obey lawful general orders)
Article 133 (conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman)

Scheller first caught the nation’s attention after he posted a short video of himself on Facebook criticizing his leadership on August 26, the day that 11 Marines, one Navy corpsman, and one Army soldier were killed during the Biden administration’s hastily-planned non-combatant evacuation operation in Kabul. ‘I Fear the President Is Delusional,’ Pol Says of Biden Withdrawal at Milley Hearing (VIDEO)

The Ranking Member of the House Armed Services committee slammed President Biden on Wednesday for the “extraordinary disaster” of the chaotic US withdrawal from Afghanistan in which 13 service members were killed, calling the president “delusional” in his assessment of the event.

In his opening statement prior to hearing the testimony of Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL) accused Biden of misleading the American people after vowing to stay in Afghanistan until all Americans were out, adding that the withdrawal operation “will go down in history as one of the greatest failures of American leadership.” . . .

“This wasn’t an extraordinary success, it was an extraordinary disaster. It will go down in history as one of the greatest failures of American leadership.”

Milley appeared before the House Armed Services Committee on Wednesday for a second day to review the 20-year Afghanistan war and the botched withdrawal that ultimately led to the deaths of 13 US service members.

WATCH: Medal of Honor Recipient Slams U.S. Military Leadership for Becoming ‘so Political’

Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller Jailed After Videos Criticizing Military Leadership

A Marine Corps officer jailed after releasing a series of Facebook videos criticizing military leadership for the botched withdrawal of Afghanistan, as well as a series of scathing posts lambasting “hypocrite” former presidents and generals, now sits in a type of solitary confinement with no phone, visitors, books, or even paper, his parents told the Washington Examiner.

“I anticipated it. I ran the gamut of rage to tears,” said Cathy Scheller upon learning that her son Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller was arrested Monday. “I have taken up his cause. I will do everything I can to make sure this doesn’t disappear. I am very proud of him for standing for the service members and asking for accountability.”

Scheller was three years away from retirement when a suicide bomber killed 13 service members during the Afghanistan airlifts. This prompted him to release a now-viral video that accused leadership of lacking accountability for the disastrous reaction to the fall of Kabul at the hands of the Taliban.

He voluntarily resigned and forfeited his retirement after the first video, saying it was worth it to speak the truth. Military leaders apparently weighed their options, as Scheller wasn’t immediately arrested but was only ordered not to communicate on social media.

“Effective immediately upon your receipt below, you are hereby ordered to refrain from posting any and all material, in any form without exception, to any social media. In this context, the term ‘social media’ shall be construed very broadly to include any medium by which you may share information with groups of people…” Lt. Col. Scheller was told, according to a Sept. 25 Facebook post. (Read more from “Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller Jailed After Videos Criticizing Military Leadership” HERE)

Afghanistan Rescue Worker: More Americans Left Than Biden Claims

A volunteer working to evacuate Americans and Afghan allies from Afghanistan said that many more Americans are still trapped in the country than the Biden administration claims.

Jean Marie Thrower, an Army veteran and automotive consultant, is a volunteer with the Afghan Rescue Crew working to extract as many Americans and Afghan allies abandoned by the U.S. in Afghanistan as possible. Thrower appeared on Fox News on Sunday and blasted the Biden administration for its withdrawal from Afghanistan.

“Definitely, there are more than the hundred that is being stated. We have multiple groups working together with teams with rosters of people, and we continue to scrub those rosters to make sure we know where these people are at,” Thrower said. “I do want to say as a veteran, quickly, that I’m appalled at our administration and how they have disrespected Americans and our allies, as well as put our soldiers’ future operations in jeopardy.”

Thrower said that the Biden administration is underestimating the number of Americans still in Afghanistan based on the number of people she and the Afghan Rescue Crew are in contact with. (Read more from “Afghanistan Rescue Worker: More Americans Left Than Biden Claims” HERE)

Vetted Afghans? Female Soldier Allegedly Assaulted by Numerous Male Refugees at Fort Bliss; Situation Becoming ‘Dire’ at U.S. Airbase; GOP Senators Press Biden on Afghan ‘Child Brides’

By National Review. The FBI has launched an investigation into the alleged assault of a female soldier perpetrated by a group of male Afghan refugees being lodged at a New Mexico military complex.

The agency is pursuing a tip originating from the Fort Bliss Afghan refugee housing complex in New Mexico that a female service member, whose identity has not been revealed, was attacked on September 19 by a “small group of male evacuees,” Fox News first reported following receipt of confirmation from the FBI. . .

“We can confirm a female service member supporting Operation Allies Welcome reported being assaulted on Sept. 19 by a small group of male evacuees at the Doña Ana Complex in New Mexico,” the 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss Public Affairs wrote in a statement obtained by Fox News. “We take the allegation seriously and appropriately referred the matter to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The safety and well-being of our service members, as well as all of those on our installations, is paramount. . .

In the wake of the botched U.S. military withdrawal and evacuation from Afghanistan, some Republican lawmakers have warned of the dangers of admitting thousands of Afghan refugees into the country for safe haven without proper vetting procedures. Some immigration scholars have contended that the extremely rushed and haphazard circumstances surrounding the pullout made it more difficult to conduct thorough screening of evacuees. Potentially, individuals extracted from Kabul who carry questionable backgrounds or even criminal records could still be resettled in the U.S., they’ve claimed. Situation Becoming ‘Dire’ at U.S. Airbase Housing Approximately 2,000 Pregnant Afghan Refugees

By CNN. The task of accommodating 10,000 Afghan refugees, including approximately 2,000 pregnant women, is putting facilities at Ramstein airbase in Germany under tremendous strain as nighttime temperatures drop toward freezing and what was meant to be a 10-day temporary stay is stretching into weeks, with one US source familiar with the situation describing it as becoming “dire.”

Already 22 babies have been born to Afghan mothers at Ramstein, and that number will rise very soon with roughly two thirds of the 3,000 women being housed there pregnant, requiring the time and effort of medical personnel from Ramstein and other bases, two US sources familiar with the situation at the base told CNN.

Even though it’s one of the largest US bases in Europe, Ramstein was never designed to handle such a large transient population especially when there are better equipped and larger facilities in the US. Cruz, GOP Senators Press Biden on Afghan ‘Child Brides’ Among Refugees

By Fox News. Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas led a letter with three of his GOP Senate colleagues pressing President Biden on “child brides” reportedly found among Afghan refugees.

Cruz, alongside fellow Republican senators Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Kevin Cramer of North Dakota, demanded answers from the president on the reports that “child brides” had evacuated from Afghanistan to the U.S.

“We write regarding credible reports that your administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan facilitated the transport and trafficking of child brides and other Afghan girls subject to sexual abuse by Afghan men,” the senators began the letter, exclusively obtained by Fox News.

“We are deeply concerned that your withdrawal has imported an acute human rights crisis to our country, in part because you and your administration appear to have been wholly unprepared for the scope and nature of the operation,” they added.

Citing multiple news reports on the matter, the senators pointed out that Secretary of State Antony Blinken told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that “there have been cases where administration officials have witnessed and separated over concerns related to such abuse and trafficking.” (Read more from “Cruz, GOP Senators Press Biden on Afghan ‘Child Brides’ Among Refugees” HERE)

Turns Out Psaki Was Wrong About Vetted Afghans. Two Were Just Indicted.

Three weeks ago White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki reassured Americans Afghan refugees, who were sloppily and chaotically put onto flights out of the country while interpreters with special immigrant visa holders were left behind, were fully and properly vetted.

“I can absolutely assure you that no one is coming into the United States of America who has not been through a thorough screening and background check process,” Psaki said during the daily briefing on September 1. “There are many individuals who have not gone through that process and they have gone to lily pad countries as that process has been completed. It doesn’t mean there is a flag, it means they haven’t completed their paperwork.”

But yesterday, two Afghan men were indicted on a series of federal charges, including domestic violence and sex with a minor.

“In unrelated cases, two individuals have been charged with crimes while at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. Bahrullah Noori, 20, is charged with attempting to engage in a sexual act with a minor using force against that person, and with three counts of engaging in a sexual act with a minor, with one count alleging the use of force. The indictment alleges that that the victims had not attained the age of 16 years and were at least four years younger than the defendant,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Wisconsin released Wednesday evening. “Mohammad Haroon Imaad, 32, is charged with assaulting his spouse by strangling and suffocating her. The indictment alleges that the assault occurred on September 7, 2021.” (Read more from “Turns Out Psaki Was Wrong About Vetted Afghans. Two Were Just Indicted.” HERE)

WATCH: Viral Marine Who Slammed Kabul Disaster Wants To Charge CENTCOM Commander for Dereliction of Duty

Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller, the active-duty Marine officer who caught viral attention for criticizing the leadership decisions in the U.S. evacuation in Kabul, Afghanistan, is now saying he wants to prosecute Marine Gen. Kenneth McKenzie for dereliction of duty.

In a video released on Thursday, Scheller said his continued criticisms of military leadership could result in pre-trial confinement and an escalation in his legal status.

“To recap my position, in the fallout of Afghanistan I demanded accountability in my senior leaders and I stated then that I understood that I might lose my battalion commander seat, my retirement and my family’s stability,” Scheller said. “As it has played out, I have in-fact lost all three of those things.”

Scheller indicated that rather than pursuing a court-martial over his critical remarks, the Marines had offered him a non-judicial punishment and separation under honorable conditions, so long as he is willing to give up his commission and not fight for his retirement.

“The reason I can’t let it go and the reason I’m not just taking an offer is because I feel like there are general officers in our institution who aren’t being held accountable,” Scheller said. Mike Pompeo: US Military Was Under ‘Political Pressure’ To Carry Out Failed Drone Strike

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo ripped President Biden for the drone attack that killed 10 civilians, including seven children, in Afghanistan, saying military officials bowed to “political pressure” and carried out the strike in a “rush.”

Pompeo called the killing of aid worker Zemari Ahmadi and members of his family on Aug. 29 a “tragedy” and offered his “apologies.”

But he said the drone strike was mishandled by the administration the same way it bungled the US military withdrawal and allowed the Taliban to return to power.

“This is just another example. It looks like they were in a rush. They were in a hurry. You could see the political pressure. And if there was one thing that drove this failed evacuation was the arbitrary political deadline that President Biden set, the arbitrary cap on the number of troops could be there, so we could secure American departure and the departure of our equipment,” he said on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”
