Newly Released Email Reveals Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot Dressing Down Staffer

A newly released email from Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot dressing down a staffer this year offers a glimpse into the turmoil behind her turnover-plagued administration.

In the condescending message, sent to then-aide Taylor Lewis in January and obtained by the Chicago Tribune, Lightfoot demands more office time — and repeats every sentence more than a dozen times in some cases.

“Since my prior requests for office time are routinely ignored, I am now resorting to this,” Lightfoot begins the Jan. 28 email, posted on Twitter by Tribune reporter Gregory Pratt.

She then writes: “I need office time everyday!” — a phrase that repeats a total of 16 times.

Interracial Couple Says Critical Race Theory ‘Hurts’ People of Color

An interracial couple from Chicago has condemned the controversial critical race theory movement — arguing that it “hurts” the black community by victimizing people of color.

“When I hear the ideas of critical race theory, they don’t remind me of my experience here in Chicago at all,” Takyrica Kokoszka, a black woman and Chicago public school teacher, told Fox News. . .

The couple spoke to the outlet about their experience living in the long-integrated neighborhood, where they say the local school administration tells teachers that “all schools are rooted in white supremacy” and that “racism… is truly all around us.” . . .

“We are looking to explain it away using critical race theory. Instead of us actually digging deep and looking into all the nuances that are involved with school achievement, we’ve watered it down. We’ve dumbed down the reason now to ‘It’s because the system is racist.’” . . .

“We believe that it hurts our black and brown community that the message is: ‘You’re a victim. You can never make it until we tear down all these systems and structures,” Martin said. (Read more from “Interracial Couple Says Critical Race Theory ‘Hurts’ People of Color” HERE)

Mayor Sued for Refusing White Reporter Interviews

No white people. That’s the interview rule that Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has enacted because subtracting people from the pool is good for diversity or something. Leah wrote about this last week. Only nonwhite reporters can interview the mayor which seems unconstitutional on its face. When CNN defends this policy, you know it’s wrong. Some Latino reporters at the Chicago Tribune refused to adhere to this policy as well. For all the talk about racism and supposedly combating it, the Left sure loves to enact policies that are…pretty racist. And now, the mayor is facing a lawsuit over this interview protocol (via NY Post):

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was hit with a lawsuit for allegedly dodging a white reporter’s interview requests – a week after she said she’d only speak one-on-one with journalists of color.

News outlet The Daily Caller and Judicial Watch announced the lawsuit Thursday, in the aftermath of Lightfoot’s temporary policy, which she launched in protest of the lack of diversity in the Windy City press corps.

“It’s absurd that an elected official believes she can discriminate on the basis of race,” Daily Caller editor-in-chief Ethan Barton said in a statement.

Concealed Carry Permit Holder Shoots, Kills Armed Robbery Suspect Inside Chicago Store

A concealed carry permit holder shot and killed a would-be armed robber at a Chicago cell phone store on Saturday, according to police.

The robbery suspect entered the Metro by T-Mobile store, located in Chicago’s Humboldt Park on West Chicago Avenue, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Fox 32 reported.

Police told the outlet that the suspect was shot in the abdomen and chest by a 29-year-old man, who hasn’t been identified. It also wasn’t clear whether the shooter was another customer or a store owner or employee, but he did have a valid concealed carry permit, police said.

The would-be armed robber was pronounced dead after being transported to Stroger Hospital. Meanwhile, police reportedly confiscated the weapons of both the suspect and the concealed carry permit holder. Crime-Ridden Chicago: 23 People Shot in Just One Day

Twenty-three people were shot Monday in Chicago, marking a violent start to the week and surpassing the gun violence totals of the entire weekend prior.

A 5-year-old boy shot in Roseland and three teenagers were among the day’s victims.

The boy was playing with an iPad on a couch about 7:30 p.m. inside a home in the 200 block of West 115th Street when a vehicle drove by and someone inside fired shots toward the residence, Chicago police said. He was rushed from the home and taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was in critical condition.

In Lawndale on the West Side, two teenage girls were among four people who were wounded in a shooting Monday afternoon.

The shooting happened about 4:40 p.m. near Pulaski Road and Lexington Street, Chicago police said. The girls, 16 and 17, were grazed on their legs. They were in good condition and refused medical attention. (Read more from “Crime-Ridden Chicago: 23 People Shot in Just One Day” HERE)

Chicago Mayor Defends Attending Biden Street Parties but Calling for Canceling Thanksgiving (VIDEO)

‘It Was a Planned Attack.’ Chicago Mayor Says Looting Was Organized

A day after looters smashed-in retailer’s windows, carried away loads of high-end merchandise and overwhelmed police officers in downtown Chicago, Mayor Lori Lightfoot says the violence was an organized raid and not a demonstration of angry protest.

“When people showed up on Michigan Avenue in the downtown area with U-Haul trucks and cargo vans, and sophisticated equipment used to cut metal, and the methods that were used, and how quickly it got spun up… that wasn’t any spontaneous reaction,” Lightfoot told TIME in her fifth-floor offices at Chicago’s City Hall on Tuesday.

The chaos that unfolded Sunday night, and into the predawn hours Monday, was initially blamed on a police shooting in the city’s southside Englewood neighborhood. News of the incident—along with misinformation that a minor had been shot—pinballed on social media, resulting in “caravans” of cars headed north downtown, Lightfoot says.

“To be sure, there are people that did join in that were motivated by lots of different reasons, and certainly were motivated by social media posts encouraging people to come downtown,” Lightfoot says. “But the core of what happened — that’s organized criminal activity… It was a planned attack.” (Read more from “‘It Was a Planned Attack.’ Chicago Mayor Says Looting Was Organized” HERE)

Chicago Is Using a 1984 Tactic to Find Quarantine Violators

Earlier this week, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) announced a mandatory 14-day quarantine for those traveling from a handful of states and Puerto Rico. People are asked to quarantine if they were recently in: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah or Wisconsin.

According to Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady, health officials will check a traveler’s social media accounts if they believe a person was recently in one of the states that require them to quarantine for 14 days. Any social media postings could be used as evidence to issue a citation, NBC Chicago reported.

“One of the easiest ways to sort of get enough proof that there was the potential of a violated quarantine order without me having to send out an inspector or do any sort of more aggressive follow up to collect that is to look at social media,” Arwady explained. Chicago Mayor Has Christopher Columbus Statues Removed From Parks Overnight

Hoping to avoid another high-profile confrontation between police and protesters like the clash that happened last week, Mayor Lori Lightfoot ordered the statues of Christopher Columbus removed from Chicago’s Grant and Arrigo parks overnight.

Not all Italian American leaders in Chicago are on board with the decision, but it has received the blessing of some groups, sources said. By taking the statues down, Lightfoot may draw criticism from those who believe she caved to activist demands.

Later Friday morning, Lightfoot said in a series of tweets that the statues were removed “until further notice.”

“We took this step in response to demonstrations that became unsafe for both protesters and police, and to efforts by individuals to independently pull the Grant Park statue down in an extremely dangerous manner,” Lightfoot said in the tweets. “This step is an effort to protect public safety and to preserve a safe space for an inclusive and democratic public dialogue about our city’s symbols. It also will allow us to focus public safety resources where they are most needed — particularly in our South and West Side communities.”

14 Wounded in Mass Shooting at Funeral in Chicago

One person of interest was in custody after at least 14 people were wounded during a shootout at a funeral in Chicago’s Gresham neighborhood Tuesday evening, police said.

The shooting happened just before 7:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of West 79th Street, according to authorities. . .

First Deputy Supt. Eric Carter said the shooting started when someone in a black vehicle opened fire on people attending a funeral on the block. People at the funeral in turn fired back and the vehicle crashed midway down the block, he said.

According to Chicago authorities, 14 people, all adults, were at five different hospitals following the mass shooting, but their conditions were not known. It was also not immediately clear if all of the victims were attending the funeral.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said the fire department transported 11 people from the scene in total, while others were self-transported to various hospitals. Several people were believed to be in serious or critical condition. (Read more from “14 Wounded in Mass Shooting at Funeral in Chicago” HERE)
