Study Reveals How Much Deadlier UK COVID Variant Found in U.S. Could Be

The COVID-19 variant that originated in the UK and is now spreading in the US may be up to 70 percent deadlier than previous versions of the bug, according to a British study.

A group that includes experts from universities and public agencies in the UK found that the variant — known as B.1.1.7 — is likely about 30 percent to 70 percent deadlier than the original strain, according to Fox News.

Scientists had already determined that the so-called Kent variant — named after the county where it was first detected — was probably that much more transmissible.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted last month that it “may also be associated with a higher degree of mortality.”

Study: Inhaling This Treatment Reduces Severe COVID Risk 90%

At the start of the COVID pandemic, doctors and scientists were on the hunt for successful treatments that could lessen the virus’s toll. By this point, quite a few promising candidates have emerged, many of which are already on the market to treat other illnesses. Now, another potential COVID treatment joins the list in the form of a widely available and extensively tested inhaler, traditionally used to treat asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). According to a new study by NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Centre (BRC), which has yet to be peer-reviewed, the drug budesonide was found to reduce the risk of severe illness by 90 percent. . .

Observing a total of 146 subjects, the researchers gave half of the group a budesonide inhaler for twice-daily doses of 800 micrograms, and the other half a placebo for a period of 28 days. Those who took the treatment were not only 90 percent less likely to require urgent care, they also reportedly benefited from shorter lengths of fever, and fewer long-term symptoms.

“I am encouraged to see the reduction in persistent symptoms at 14 and 28 days after treatment with budesonide,” Mona Bafadhel, MD, a professor and respiratory consultant also working at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, shared on the University of Oxford website. “Persistent symptoms after the initial COVID-19 illness have emerged as a long-term problem. Report: Foreign Nationals Traveling to U.S. to Get Coronavirus Vaccine Before Americans

Foreign nationals from a number of countries, but mostly Mexico, are flocking to the United States to get the vaccine for the Chinese coronavirus even as nearly 90 percent of Americans have yet to receive their first dose.

A report in the Washington Post detailed how likely thousands of foreign nationals are traveling to the U.S. to get the coronavirus vaccine, cutting in line before about 280 million Americans who have not yet been vaccinated.

The Post reports:

One of Mexico’s best-known TV hosts sat in a car, masked, looking straight ahead while a needle was plunged into his bare upper arm. Juan Jose “Pepillo” Origel was the latest Mexican national to get the coronavirus vaccine — by coming to the United States. [Emphasis added]

“I’ve known lots of Mexicans, thousands, who have gone to get the vaccine in the U.S.,” he added. “And nothing happened. In San Antonio, Laredo, all along the Mexican border, Mexicans are going to get the vaccine.” [Emphasis added]

Experts Nationwide Warn Women That COVID Vaccine Mimics Cancer Conditions, Advise Delay of Mammograms

By The Salt Lake Tribune. Health experts nationwide, including a prominent Utah doctor, are warning women who get the COVID-19 vaccine to wait at least a month before getting a routine mammogram — because of a side effect of the vaccine that mimics a condition often seen in cancer diagnoses.

“We don’t want patients to get these false positives, to have this sort of alarm,” said Dr. Brett Parkinson, medical director of Intermountain Healthcare’s Breast Care Center.

Parkinson said the center’s doctors, as well as physicians across the nation, have noticed that some people who get the COVID-19 vaccine have had the side effect of swollen lymph nodes in the axilla, or the armpit area. In itself, such swelling isn’t serious, and it usually subsides within four weeks. . .

However, when such swelling in the lymph nodes in the armpit shows up during a routine mammogram, Parkinson said, a doctor likely would call a patient back in for a more detailed examination. Such swelling, he said, can be a sign of metastatic breast cancer — a cancer that has spread beyond the breast — or lymphoma or leukemia. MMR Vaccine may protect against COVID

By Very Well Health. As the world faces a slow start to the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out, some researchers have suggested that older vaccines might provide temporary protection. One study from this past November suggests there might be a link between mumps antibodies (which many people acquire through vaccination) and less severe COVID-19. . .

One notable example of the difference in death rates and MMR vaccination efforts in Venezuela. The country recently gained control of a large measles outbreak through a country-wide vaccination campaign geared toward nine million children between 6 months to 15 years.

Gold says that delivering 13 million doses of the MMR vaccine was unmatched with vaccination efforts in neighboring countries such as Colombia and Brazil. By 2019, Venezuela had reduced the number of deaths by 91%—reporting only 548 cases and three deaths.

Gold noticed that increased MMR vaccination appeared to be associated with decreased COVID-19 deaths. “Venezuela has had only 39 deaths per million from COVID-19,” he says. “On the other hand, its immediate neighbors Colombia and Brazil have each had 957 deaths per million and 986 deaths per million respectively.” (Read more from “MMR Vaccine may protect against COVID” HERE)

Biden Administration Sitting on $1 Trillion in Unspent COVID-19 Relief Funds

Before the Biden administration takes another $1.9 trillion out of the nation’s wallet for COVID-19 relief, fiscal hawks are urging the White House to first spent about $1 trillion in unspent previously approved virus money.

According to a Republican Study Committee tally, $4 trillion has already been appropriated for relief, and Biden’s plan would grow that 50%, an amount even GOP supporters of a big coronavirus package call too rich.

The government is sitting on about $1 trillion in unspent money. House leaders have asked the administration to identify that funding, but so far, the White House has refused.

“Unfortunately, the only ones who have those details are in the Biden administration, but they’re being tight-lipped,” said a GOP source.

12-Year-Old Hangs Himself After Battling Depression Amid COVID-19

A 12-year-old Texas boy who felt “sad and lonely” amid the coronavirus lockdown measures hanged himself, his father revealed in a report about the tragedy.

Hayden Hunstable, of Aledo, took his own life three days before his 13th birthday in April 2020 because he didn’t know how to deal with the isolation and depression when the emerging disease caused a nationwide shutdown, the UK’s Metro reported.

The boy’s 9-year-old sister, Kinlee, found him hanged in his bedroom, according to the outlet.

Hayden’s heartbroken dad, Brad, 42, spoke to Metro to help prevent future suicides among the nation’s youth.

“COVID killed my son. COVID Insanity: University Bans Solo Outdoor Exercise, Doctor Fired for Administering Expiring Vaccine Doses

. . .One might assume that the San Francisco school board’s destructive machinations are the most cartoonishly absurd acts being carried out by educational officials in the Bay Area recently, but the brain trust over at the University of California at Berkeley is giving them a run for their money. Cal students are basically inmates in a low-security jail at this point:

“Due to the 14 day incubation period of this virus, it is too early to be sure we have contained this current surge,” the email states. “We understand this extension is frustrating, but please understand this will help us mitigate further spread while protecting our community.” There may be an increase in Community Security Officers and security staff in residence halls, according to the email. Staff may be checking students’ testing badges and Cal 1 Cards more frequently. The email added that noncompliance with campus directives will result in serious residential conduct sanctions. These may include being disqualified from housing or suspension from UC Berkeley. Students are encouraged to report self-sequester protocol violations to their resident assistants. “We don’t wish for residents to be alarmed by this increased UCPD presence, but we must ensure the health of our community,” the email reads.

The email reminded students that they must stay in their room except in case of emergency or to obtain medical care, comply with testing requirements or receive food from the Cal Dining kiosks. Lunch is available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and students can pick up dinner and breakfast between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Unlike the previous self-sequester, students are now unable to leave their room for solo outdoor exercise, according to the email. Campus is working with the city of Berkeley to determine whether outdoor exercise is permitted. “Right now it is critical that you avoid gatherings — large or small — even with your residential household grouping, whether indoors or outdoors, and even if your most recent COVID test is negative,” the email states.

But don’t worry, Cal adds, “Counseling and Psychological Services is available for virtual counseling appointments and help finding resources.” If isolated students become depressed or emotionally unwell – how couldn’t they? – they are welcome to sign up for a Zoom session with a counselor. They are not welcome to walk outdoors to see a counselor in a socially-distanced setting, of course. That would be dangerous. And again, don’t fret because campus leaders are “working with the city of Berkeley to determined whether outdoor exercise is permitted.” I don’t know what to call this other than abusive, anti-science, and totally insane. Meanwhile, this story made me want to unleash a primal scream:

The Texas doctor had six hours. Now that a vial of Covid-19 vaccine had been opened on this late December night, he had to find 10 eligible people for its remaining doses before the precious medicine expired. In six hours. Scrambling, the doctor made house calls and directed people to his home outside Houston. Some were acquaintances; others, strangers. A bed-bound nonagenarian. A woman in her 80s with dementia. A mother with a child who uses a ventilator. After midnight, and with just minutes before the vaccine became unusable, the doctor, Hasan Gokal, gave the last dose to his wife, who has a pulmonary disease that leaves her short of breath. For his actions, Dr. Gokal was fired from his government job and then charged with stealing 10 vaccine doses worth a total of $135 — a shun-worthy misdemeanor that sent his name and mug shot rocketing around the globe.

Andrew Cuomo’s Aide Admits NY Hid COVID-19 Nursing Home Deaths To Avoid Federal Investigation

By Breitbart. Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s (D-NY) top aide admitted that her team withheld the number of deaths related to COVID-19 in New York’s nursing homes to shield the Cuomo government from federal investigation and political scrutiny. . .

In a recorded call with state Democrat lawmakers, DeRosa said Cuomo’s team feared a federal investigation in the context of former President Donald Trump’s highlighting of coronavirus-related deaths in New York’s nursing homes. This fear motivated Cuomo’s government to suppress the statistics against requests for such information from the state’s government and citizens’ organizations. . .

Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) called for an obstruction of justice investigation into Cuomo and New York’s executive branch.

Rep. Steve Scalise (D-LA) told Breitbart News in August that New York families who had loved ones die from COVID-19 asked him for help in obtaining information from Cuomo related to nursing home deaths.

Cuomo Coverup: Aide Admits They Intentionally Hid Nursing Home Data From Feds

By New York Post. Governor Cuomo’s top aide privately apologized to Democratic lawmakers for withholding the state’s nursing-home death toll from COVID-19 — telling them “we froze” out of fear the true numbers would “be used against us” by federal prosecutors, The Post has learned.

The stunning admission of a cover-up was made by Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa during a video conference call with state Democratic leaders in which she said the Cuomo administration had rebuffed a legislative request for the tally in August because “right around the same time, [then-President Donald Trump] turns this into a giant political football,” according to an audio recording of the two-hour-plus meeting.

“He starts tweeting that we killed everyone in nursing homes,” DeRosa said. “He starts going after [New Jersey Gov. Phil] Murphy, starts going after [California Gov. Gavin] Newsom, starts going after [Michigan Gov.] Gretchen Whitmer.”

In addition to attacking Cuomo’s fellow Democratic governors, DeRosa said, Trump “directs the Department of Justice to do an investigation into us.”

Biden Considers Mandating COVID-19 Testing Prior to Air Travel

Top officials in the Biden administration confirmed in recent days that conversations remain ongoing about requiring Americans traveling on domestic flights to confirm a negative coronavirus test before traveling. . .

The federal government has not implemented testing requirements for Americans flying domestically. Thus far, the most stringent restriction for travelers is the requirement for face coverings, a policy implemented by the airlines themselves. The Transportation Security Administration also requires face masks in secure travel areas.

However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced a new policy last month that requires international travelers, including American citizens, to show a negative COVID-19 test prior to entry into the U.S.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg confirmed in an interview with Axios that the CDC is considering implementing a testing policy for domestic flights, but played coy about the chances of such a policy becoming reality.

Biden’s America: COVID Restrictions for Americans, but Not Illegal Aliens

. . .COVID-19 is something to take seriously if you are in a high-risk category, but now that we have more effective treatments for those who are infected and we have vaccine distribution at an all-time high, you would think Democrats, including President Joe Biden, would be projecting more optimism into finally putting this dark age behind us. Instead, we have got nothing but doom and gloom. The White House recently stated if you are vaccinated, you still need to wear a mask and not gather in groups. The Biden administration has also taken the side of teacher unions who want to stay out of the classroom despite the science showing schools are not epicenters of COVID-19 outbreaks. . .

If you want to fly into the United States, you need to have a negative test before being allowed to enter. But the rules are different if you cross the border illegally. Under the Trump administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection had been using the Center for Disease Control’s Title 42 policy, which allowed border patrol agents to expedite deportations to avoid overcrowding their facilities so COVID-19 can’t spread among those detained. . .

Despite this known risky behavior, the Biden administration has reversed many of Trump’s immigration policies that you would think they would want to keep in place because of the pandemic. Now, in border towns such as McAllen, Texas, we’re seeing the opposite. Groups of migrants who have just crossed are being dropped off at bus stations, oftentimes without being tested for COVID-19. Where they go is up to them and it’s unlikely they’ll be seen again. At the same time, the Rio Grande Valley has been one of the worst-hit areas in Texas.

If Americans engaged in similar behavior, you could imagine how Democrats and the media would react. Except you don’t have to imagine it. Democrats and their allies in the media have been throwing temper tantrums at the sight of people in Florida not wear masks and celebrating in the streets after Sunday’s Super Bowl.
