Omicron Hits New York City

Five cases of the COVID-19 omicron variant have been detected in the New York City area, Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Thursday evening.

Hochul said they account for the only five known cases in teh state thus far and include one in Brooklyn, two in Queens and one in Long Island’s Suffolk County. A fifth was pegged to “New York City” by the officials but without a more precise location.

The Long Island patient, a 67-year-old woman, had recently returned from South Africa, Hochul said. She tested positive on Nov. 30, according to the governor.

Federal officials restricted travel to the US from eight nations in southern Africa after cases of the variant were reported in South Africa and Botswana. (Read more from “Omicron Hits New York” HERE)

NYC School to Begin Sorting Out Students by Race

A Manhattan junior high school plans to racially separate students while discussing identity and social justice topics next week, The Post has learned.

The Lower Manhattan Community School will conduct the controversial exercises as part of its mission to “undo the legacy of racism and oppression in this country that impacts our school community,” according to an email sent to parents.

Kids in grades seven and eight will opt into one of five categories, Principal Shanna Douglas wrote in the message.

Whites, Asians, and multi-racial students have their own categories, while African-American and Hispanic students are combined into one group, according to her email.

“On November 23rd and 24th, 7th and 8th graders will explore the question ‘How do our racial identities influence our experiences?’ in affinity groups,” Douglas announced. “An affinity group is a group formed around a shared interest.” (Read more from “NYC School to Begin Sorting Out Students by Race” HERE)

Black Lives Matter Activists Threaten ‘Bloodshed’ in Major U.S. City

Prominent leaders of a Black Lives Matter group in New York City promised violence if Mayor-elect Eric Adams brought back the city’s anti-crime units.

“If he thinks that they’re going to go back to the old ways of policing, then we are going to take to the streets again,” Hawk Newsome, who co-founded Black Lives Matter of Greater New York, told the New York Daily News.

“There will be riots, there will be fire and there will be bloodshed because we believe in defending our people,” Newsome promised.

The anti-crime unit was a division of the New York Police Department (NYPD) that used plainclothes officers to investigate and respond to violent crime. The unit was shut down in June 2020 following the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Adams, a former NYPD officer, said he planned to bring the unit back in an interview with The City. (Read more from “Black Lives Matter Activists Threaten ‘Bloodshed’ in Major U.S. City” HERE)

NYC Man Tries to Strangle Little Girl Arraigned, Out on Bail

A 29-year-old man accused of trying to strangle an 11-year-old girl in a Manhattan park was arraigned and released on $7,500 bail on Saturday night.

Nathaniel Direnzo, of Saint Marks Place, was arrested on Saturday morning for a bizarre, broad-daylight attack on the young girl and another minor on Wednesday afternoon. . .

According to police, just around noon on Oct. 20, Direnzo approached the girl and her classmates at Stuyvesant Square with her classmates and began to yell at them, before spraying water on the group and trying to attack them, cops said.

When the young girl tried to fight back, cops say Direnzo grabbed her by the hair and punched her in the face. He then allegedly “wrapped his hands around the girl’s neck,” trying to strangle her, police said. (Read more from “NYC Man Tries to Strangle Little Girl Arraigned, Out on Bail” HERE)

Every Commuter’s Worst Nightmare: Video Shows Attacker Shoving Woman Into Train in NYC

Shocking new video captures the moment an attacker randomly shoved a woman into the side of an arriving train at Times Square this week.

The video, released by the NYPD, shows the bandanna-wearing female suspect sitting on a bench on the platform just after 8 a.m. Monday — and getting up to push the 42-year-old victim from behind just as a No. 3 train pulls into the station.

The victim slammed into the side of the oncoming train, but did not fall onto the tracks, cops said. She instead toppled backwards onto the platform, suffering severe injuries to her face and legs. . .

The two women did not know each other, and the incident was unprovoked, cops said. (Read more from “Every Commuter’s Worst Nightmare: Video Shows Attacker Shoving Woman Into Train in NYC” HERE)

Federal Judge Blocks NYC’s School COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate

New York City’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for teachers and other Department of Education staffers is on pause after a federal judge late on Sept. 24 granted a request to temporarily block it.

Plaintiffs, a group of teachers, asked for a temporary injunction, pending review by a three-judge panel on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

U.S. Appeals Court Judge Joseph Bianco, a George W. Bush nominee, granted the request in a one-page order.

The panel will now decide whether to impose an injunction pending appeal or allow the mandate to take effect.

Rachel Maniscalco and three other New York City Department of Education workers sued over the mandate, which was supposed to start on Sept. 27. (Read more from “Federal Judge Blocks NYC’s School COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate” HERE)

Donald Trump: Flawed New York City Election Proves ‘Our Elections Are a Mess’

Former President Donald Trump highlighted the election in New York City on Wednesday as another example of faulty American elections, calling for additional security reforms.

“Check out the New York election today, by the way, they just realized it’s a disaster,” Trump said. “They’re unable to count the votes.”

Trump spoke about the elections during a visit to the Southern border with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and members of law enforcement.

He pointed to the New York Board of Elections admitting they mistakenly included 135,000 “test” ballots in the final tally.

Trump described the test ballots in New York as “make-believe” votes and questioned the integrity of elections across the country. (Read more from “Donald Trump: Flawed New York City Election Proves ‘Our Elections Are a Mess’” HERE)

Defective COVID Shots Given at NYC Vaccination Site

. . .The operator of the pop-up COVID vaccination site in the former “NFL Experience” building in Times Square sent out an emergency notice informing 899 patients that it erroneously injected them with expired Pfizer doses.

The patients were told by ATC Healthcare Services that they need to get another shot because the firm “cannot guarantee the effectiveness” of the doses they received.

“We are contacting you concerning the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine you received at Times Square – NFL Experience vaccination site on June 5 to June 10, 2021. It was recognized after the vaccine was administered, that it had been in the freezer beyond the approved time frame prior to it being administered,” David Savitsky said in an email to patients.

A dad of two teen daughters who were given the faulty shots last week was left fuming after getting the email and a phone call from ATC Healthcare about the mix up. . .

The source, who wished to remain anonymous, also wondered how many other patients were given defective doses. (Read more from “Defective COVID Shots Given at NYC Vaccination Site” HERE)
