Black Professor: ‘They Have Deputized All White People to Murder Us’

A University of North Carolina professor posted a tweet Sunday accusing Republicans of “deputiz[ing] all white people” to murder black Americans. After coming under scrutiny on social media for this outlandish and frightening falsehood, the professor mocked commenters and defended her statement. Her initial tweet has garnered nearly 8,000 likes.

Tressie McMillan Cottom, an associate professor at UNC, expressed outrage after Sen. Ron Johnson expressed support for “citizen soldiers.” The tweet she responded to stated, “Sen. Ron Johnson just said he supports ‘citizen soldiers’ in Kenosha. Kyle Rittenhouse, who murdered 2 people, is a citizen soldier. #CNNSOTU.” In a reply, Cottom said, “They have deputized all white people to murder us.”

Cottom then doubled down on her stance, saying “oh the racists are big mad about this one, I see,” in reference to her earlier tweet.

Cottoms describes herself on her website as supporting “radically progressive local candidates for public office, community bail funds, and removing memorials to oppressive racist fictions.”

Black Man Charged With Shooting and Killing 5-Year-Old White Boy

A Wilson, North Carolina man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly approached a 5-year-old who was playing outside and shot the child in the head.

Darius Sessoms, 25, was apprehended and charged with first degree murder in connection with his alleged role in ending the life of the toddler, according to WRAL. The 25-year-old ran up to Cannon Hinnant, 5, and shot him in the head in front of his two sisters, aged 8 and 9, while they played outside of their home, witnesses told the local outlet.

“My first reaction was he’s playing with the kids,” Doris Lybrand, who watched the shooting, told WRAL. “For a second, I thought, ‘That couldn’t happen.’ People don’t run across the street and kill kids.”

The 5-year-old was pronounced dead at a local hospital, according to the outlet. Sessoms is reportedly Cannon’s neighbor and residents claim the accused man had dinner with the boy’s father on Saturday and was seen at the family home on Sunday, WRAL reported.

Police have yet to release a motive for the alleged killing, but insist the murder was not random, according to WRAL. (Read more from “Black Man Charged With Shooting and Killing 5-Year-Old White Boy” HERE)

Chihuahua Saves Veteran Owner’s Life After He Suffers Stroke

A North Carolina Chihuahua is credited with saving his owner’s life last week, according to a report from WCTI.

Eighty-six-year-old Navy Veteran Rudy Armstrong survived a stroke after his little dog Bubu ran to get help. Armstrong lives alone with his furry companion in a houseboat in Oriental, a town in Pamlico County, but Bubu was able to lead a nearby dockmaster back to Armstrong’s home to assist the sick vet.

“I sat down in my chair, drank my coffee, and the next thing I know it was after lunch,” Armstong told WCTI about his ordeal, “I couldn’t even get my hand to move and my foot wouldn’t move.”

He also explained that he had instructed Bubu to get help from a dockmaster named Kim when he couldn’t reach his phone to call emergency services.

“I didn’t want to be there for a couple of days before somebody would come by, so I said, ‘Ok Boo-Boo, go get me some help,’” Armstrong said. (Read more from “Chihuahua Saves Veteran Owner’s Life After He Suffers Stroke” HERE)

North Carolina City Council Votes in Favor of Reparations for Black Residents

North Carolina’s Asheville City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to pass a repentant measure that formally apologizes to black residents and moves to issue reparations in the form of investments in certain areas of the community through the creation of the Community Reparations Commission.

The resolution, which passed 7-0, does not include cash payments made directly to black residents but does call on the city to form the Community Reparations Commission, which would hear from community leaders and groups who would, in turn, make recommendations on where funds should be directed.

“Hundreds of years of black blood spilled that basically fills the cup we drink from today,” Keith Young, a black member of the council, said.

“It is simply not enough to remove statutes. Black people in this country are dealing with issues that are systemic in nature,” he added.

The measure, titled “Resolution Supporting Community Reparations for Black Asheville,” cites a host of reasons for the resolution, including “racist practices in the private realty market,” “discriminatory wages,” “inadequate” health care, and policing. Mass Fraud: Thousands of North Carolina Voters Double-Voted, Watchdog Group Finds

Thousands of voters in North Carolina voted twice in one or both of the past two elections, according to a court filing in the key battleground state.

Public Interest Legal Foundation, an election integrity group, announced Thursday that it had filed a brief in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina outlining the number of double votes.

A total of 16,700 duplicate votes were cast in the 2016 and 2018 elections, according to an audit by the watchdog group based on public records.

North Carolina was home to a disputed voter fraud case in 2018.

Public Interest Legal Foundation made the court filing in the case of Democracy NC et. al. v. North Carolina State Board of Elections, which seeks to suspend North Carolina’s protections for mail-in voters during the presidential election in November in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Specifically, the state’s public voter rolls show that even with election integrity mechanisms in place, voters registered in more than one precinct are credited for voting a second ballot.

This could be an individual voting twice or someone voting while using someone else’s identity. Such cases largely have resulted from poor maintenance of voter rolls at the local level—for example, not updating the rolls when voters move.

The audit found that in the 2016 presidential election in North Carolina, about 9,700 voters were credited with voting twice. Of these cases, about half—or 5,000—were mail-in ballots.

Two years later, during the 2018 midterm election, about 7,000 voters were credited with voting twice. Of those, 2,900 were mail-in votes, the audit says.

It is not clear how many of the same voters voted twice in both elections.

In one of the most high-profile voter fraud cases in recent years, the North Carolina State Board of Elections decertified the outcome of the 2018 race in the 9th Congressional District and ordered a new election after evidence of absentee ballot fraud emerged.

In that race, 61% of all mailed votes were cast for Republican Mark Harris over Democrat Dan McCready, although only 16% of those requesting a ballot were Republicans. In the new election, Republican Dan Bishop stepped in as the party nominee and won.

“This is a widespread concern in North Carolina,” J. Christian Adams, president and general counsel of Public Interest Legal Foundation, said in a written statement. “We should be talking about how to strengthen our systems against misdeeds done out of the sight of election officials in 2020 instead of defending an imperfect system from total ruin.”

Those suing, Adams said, “are only raising the threat of worsening the settled fact that voter fraud is most common in the mail.”

The lawsuit in North Carolina by Democracy NC, the League of Women Voters, and others calls for waiving requirements that voter registration forms be submitted 25 days before an election, eliminating the witness signature on absentee ballots, allowing ballots to be received in ways other than mail, such as contactless dropboxes, and increasing early voting. These Fast Food Employees Probably Really Regret Denying Service to Veteran Police Officer

Two employees of a North Carolina fast food restaurant are likely regretting the decision to refuse service to a veteran police officer, because they’re both out of a job. . .

Roxboro Police Chief David Hess said that veteran police officer Kenneth Horton was allegedly denied service by a cashier at the restaurant. Horton is also a U.S. Army veteran.

The story began spreading in the community and eventually got to the management of the fast food chain.

The cashier and the manager of the store were fired from their jobs as a result.

Hess made it clear that the police had nothing to do with the firing of the employees. (Read more from “These Fast Food Employees Probably Really Regret Denying Service to Veteran Police Officer” HERE)

High School Cheerleaders Put on Probation for Posing With Trump Banner

On Monday, cheerleaders from a North Carolina high school were put on probation for the remainder of the football season for posing with a Trump 2020 banner before a football game on August 30.

The photo was posted on Facebook, prompting some commenters to take issue; one wrote, “Why in the world would the school board allow this to happen. I am sad and very disappointed with NS. This is a High School football game, not a political rally. Shame on them,” as The Daily Mail noted.

NCHSAA Commissioner Que Tucker told McClatchy news group that probation is not punishment, but rather, “It serves as a notice of behavior or action that is against NCHSAA Handbook Policy or contrary to expectations of sportsmanship and proper behavior,” according to the Charlotte Observer. She also said, “One of the rules we have is that every contest should be conducted in a wholesome, athletic environment. We take that to mean that it’s in an environment where good sportsmanship is shown, where people feel safe…that respect for all people participating is being shown,” according to thesnaponline.

The Stanly County School District issued a statement saying:

We are currently investigating this matter but as of this morning we have determined this was not an act planned or endorsed by the school or its staff. A student attending the event brought the flag into the game, which was not present when entering the gate … Stanly County Schools respects the rights of its students, staff, and visitors to express their opinions in a respectful manner on their own time, however, Stanly County Board of Education policy prohibits the display or distribution of political advertisements on campus or at school events. Further, Stanly County Schools never makes political campaign endorsements. These policies ensure that all students, staff and visitors are able to attend school events in an environment that promotes students and not a particular political viewpoint.

Machete-Wielding 11-Year-Old Foils Home Invasion

An 11-year-old boy in North Carolina struck an intruder in the back of the head with a machete to foil a home invasion on Friday, according to reports.

The boy, who was home alone, answered a knock on the front door and saw a woman standing there. Simultaneously, a man broke into the home through a window and used the homeowner’s pellet gun to force the child into a bedroom closet.

The boy escaped the closet and grabbed a machete, using it to strike the man in the head.

He reportedly kicked the child in the stomach but the boy did not give up, swinging again at him but missing. The man again kicked the boy, and began to grab several items, including a television and a PlayStation, but fled the home without the electronics when he realized he was bleeding, according to a news release from the Orange County Sherriff’s Office. . .

WATCH: 13-Year-Old Girl Gets Verbally Attacked for Denouncing Abortion

On Tuesday night, at a Raleigh, North Carolina City Council public meeting, a 13-year-old girl pleaded for the city to make abortion illegal, comparing abortion to slavery, prompting some members of the audience to shout her down.

13-year-old Addison Woolsey began:

My name is Addison Woolsey. I strongly believe that abortion is murder. I also believe murder is wrong, so I’m here to ask you to make abortion illegal in Raleigh. Abortion should be illegal because it’s murder. The definition of murder is the killing of one human being by another without justification and acting with intended malice. When mothers choose to slaughter their innocent babies they already have fingerprints, noses; they can recognize their mom’s voice. They can hiccup and their heart is beating … On ultrasounds the baby tries to run away from the disturbing instruments that try to kill the baby. The baby’s mouth opens wide in a scream when being killed. These babies are alive. They feel being killed. It hurts them and there is nothing they can do about it. There is no way around it. Abortion is murder.

. . .

Abortion reminds me of slavery. Owners said that their slaves were their property and they could do whatever they wanted with them. Just how moms feel about their babies. My hope is that in a few years we’ll look back at abortion and think, “That was so cruel. I can’t believe we did that. Just how I look back at slavery. The question is, who will you be? The slave owner? … Rosa Parks ? Or Abraham Lincoln? Who are you going to be? Make a choice. My choice is made. I’m here today standing up for what’s right. I’m here today speaking for those who can’t speak for themselves. Are you choosing to be like the plantation owner flogging the little black child?

. . .

The News & Observer reported, “Some of the anti-abortion speakers were shouting back at those interrupting Woosley. One man used his cell phone to film a woman sitting near the anti-abortion people. She flipped him off, saying ‘right here, pal’ and police officers took her out of the room. She was later allowed back in.”
