Social Security Hits Kids With $100,000 Bill After ‘Dead’ Father Turns up Alive 47 Years Later

In 1968, a 39-year-old funeral director named Douglas Grensted disappeared while on a hunting trip, leaving behind a wife and two young daughters. A decade later, he was declared legally dead, and Social Security paid his family about $100,000 in survivors’ benefits.

So imagine their shock when they discovered in 2016 that he had been alive all that time — and not only that, the Social Security Administration wanted its money back.

Now the daughters, both in their 60s, worry that they may lose their family home to pay for the fraud perpetrated by their father, who admitted to federal authorities that he ran off to Arizona with his mistress after faking his own death. He died in December 2015. . .

The daughters have asked the Social Security Administration to waive the debt. They were relieved when Administrative Law Judge T. Patrick Hannon ruled that her mother, Barbara Grensted, could repay the $87,000 she owed in increments of $10 per month until her death, at which point the balance would be erased.

When Mrs. Grensted died two months later at the age of 89, however, the judge reversed his ruling. In an Oct. 24 decision, he ordered the balance to be paid by her estate, which is tied up in a trust but includes the house she had long shared with her daughter Beth Grensted, 63, in Mount Hermon, California. Mueller Investigation Stirring up More Trouble Than It’s Finding

After 19 months, special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation has charged a number of targets with almost every conceivable sin — except collusion with Russia to throw an election. Yet suspicion of collusion was the reason that Mueller was appointed in the first place. . .

Instead, the accusation is that [Michael] Cohen and Trump used Trump’s own money, but they did not report the payout as a “contribution” to his campaign. But Trump likely would have paid off Daniels anyway to protect his marriage, family and reputation, regardless of whether he was running for office.

If you take media-sensationalized sex out of the equation, Trump, like any other American, has the right to pay anyone whatever he wishes to keep quiet about past embarrassing behavior, whether that be secretly gulping down too many Big Macs or cheating on the golf course. . .

Next, former FBI Director James Comey counted on the Trump administration’s inexperience and broke normal protocol by sending investigators to interrogate Flynn directly without bothering with the usual administration intermediaries. Comey’s deputy director, Andrew McCabe, misled Flynn into assuming that the interview would be a friendly chat among “allies.” Flynn was told he would not need a lawyer. . .

It gets worse. The FBI agents, who presumably had transcripts from Flynn’s talks with the Russian ambassador to compare to Flynn’s interview answers, expressed the belief that Flynn did not seem as if he was lying to them. Yet that conclusion was apparently overturned at some point by the FBI. To this day, the only real evidence that Flynn lied is his confession — and apparently the second thoughts of the FBI investigators, who reinterpreted their initial impressions in a much later official report. Suspect in Fatal Cop Shooting Is in U.S. Illegally

The suspect sought in connection with the murder of a California cop earlier this week is in the U.S. illegally, authorities revealed on Thursday.

The unidentified man alleged to be behind the slaying of Newman police Cpl. Ronil Singh, 33, “is considered armed and dangerous,” Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson said during a news conference on Thursday afternoon, vowing that the manhunt would “relentlessly continue.” . . .

Singh was shot and killed during a traffic stop just before 1 a.m. Wednesday in Newman, about 100 miles southeast of San Francisco, according to police.

Singh had called in the traffic stop and reported “shots fired” over his radio a few minutes later, sheriff’s officials previously said. The suspect fled when backup officers arrived to assist Singh, who was then rushed to a hospital. He later died from his gunshot wounds, the department said.

Surveillance photos released of the suspect showed him inside the Newman Food Store shortly before the fatal attack. Police also located the truck the suspect is believed to have driven.

Nation’s Oldest Military Veteran Dead at 112

America’s oldest veteran, Richard Overton, who served in the Army during World War II and credited God, whiskey and cigars for his remarkable longevity, died Thursday in Texas at the age of 112, reports say.

He had been hospitalized for the last week with pneumonia, his family said.

Shirley Overton, whose husband was Richard’s cousin, said the vet died Thursday evening at a rehab facility in Austin.

Overton, who was also thought to be the oldest living American, was born in 1906 in Bastrop County, just outside Austin, Texas.

Overton was in his 30s when he volunteered for the Army, and was at Pearl Harbor just after the Japanese surprise attack in 1941. (Read more from “Nation’s Oldest Military Veteran Dead at 112” HERE)

“Powerful moment – Member of United States Army told the President he came back into the military because of him. And President Trump responded, ‘And I am here because of you,'” Sanders tweeted of Trump’s trip to Iraq. “I met him after and he gave me the patch from his arm. Incredible.” . . .

Trump Visits U.S. Troops in Iraq for First Trip to a Conflict Zone

By The Washington Post. President Trump greeted U.S. troops on an unannounced trip Wednesday to Iraq, where he defended his decision to withdraw forces from neighboring Syria and declared that the Islamic State is “very nearly defeated” while making his first visit to a conflict zone as commander in chief. . .

After months of public pressure for him to spend time with troops deployed to conflicts in the Middle East and Central Asia, Trump touched down at the joint U.S.-Iraqi base west of Baghdad after a secret flight from Washington.

Accompanied by first lady Melania Trump, the president sounded a triumphant note as he addressed U.S. service members on the day after Christmas. “We’re no longer the suckers, folks,” he said. And he warned that he was committed to withdrawing troops from foreign wars even when his administration’s experts object. Something Huge Was Just Revealed Involving the Death of the Migrant Boy in U.S. Custody

By The Daily Wire. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials said on Wednesday that the 8-year-old Guatemalan boy who died in U.S. custody this week did so after his alleged father declined additional medical treatment.

The boy, Felipe Gomez Alonzo, was initially taken to the hospital after CBP agents noticed that he was sick and was “diagnosed with the common cold, given prescription medications and discharged,” ABC St. Louis reported.

A spokesperson for DHS said on Wednesday that the boy later continued to complain about not feeling well and started vomiting, “but the man claiming to be his father told agents that the boy did not need to return to the hospital and that ‘he had been feeling better.'”

The agents later checked on the boy and noticed that his condition had worsened, at which point they decided to take him back to the hospital where he later died. (Read more from “Something Huge Was Just Revealed Involving the Death of the Migrant Boy in U.S. Custody” HERE)

DHS: Father of Boy Who Died in Custody Told Agents Boy Didn’t Need More Medical Treatment

By ABC St. Louis. The father of the 8-year-old Guatemalan boy who died in U.S. custody this week denied further medical treatment of his son, according to a spokesperson with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Wednesday.

The boy is the second child to die of an illness in U.S. custody after being brought into the country illegally by an alleged parent.

First reports indicated that the boy, Felipe Gomez Alonzo, was taken to an area hospital for a medical examination when border agents noticed his condition. He was diagnosed with the common cold, given prescription medications and discharged. The boy and the man who brought him into the U.S., who claims to be his father, were transferred to a holding facility. . .

DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen blamed “smugglers, traffickers, and their own parents” for putting children at risk. She also took aim at Congress over U.S. border security. “Our system has been pushed to a breaking point by those who seek open borders,” she said. Globalist Insanity: German Supreme Court Rules Anti-Child Marriage Law Unconstitutional

The Federal Supreme Court of Germany ruled earlier this month that child marriage is constitutional so long as it takes place prior to entering the country. . .

“In the specific case, it was about a Syrian refugee couple, who had fled in August 2015 over the Balkan route because of the war to Germany,” reports the outlet. “The couple had previously been legally married on 10 February 2015 in a Syrian Sharia court. The husband was 21 years old on his wedding day, his wife was at the age of 14.”

Upon immigrating to Germany from Syria, the couple was separated following registration in the Schweinfurt facility. The 14-year-old girl had been placed in a youth welfare facility for female underage refugees; her appointed guardian was the Aschaffenburg youth welfare office. Her 21-year-old husband had no contact with her and was not even informed of her whereabouts.

The Gatestone Institute reports that a family court in Aschaffenburg ruled against the husband after he filed suit; a Bamberg appeals court later overturned that ruling in 2016. Alarmed by the obvious consequences, the German parliament passed legislation in 2017 banning child marriages after German Interior Ministry revealed in 2016 that “1,475 married children — including 361 children under the age of 14 — were known to be living in Germany as of July 31, 2016.” . . .

The Federal Supreme Court has now ruled that law unconstitutional, arguing that it violates Germany’s Basic Law. Future child marriages will be examined on a case-by-case basis and will no longer be given a blanket ban. The court stated that the ban on child marriage violates Articles 1 (human dignity), 2 (free development of personality), 3 (equal protection) and 6 (protection of marriage and family) of the Basic Law, which serves as the German constitution. ICE Released Hundreds of Migrants in THIS State Before Christmas — and Is Planning to Release Hundreds More

By The Blaze. The Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement released hundreds of migrants seeking asylum into El Paso, Texas, just before Christmas — and they’re scheduled to several many more on Wednesday.

Local aid groups complained that ICE provided no prior warning before dropping off the more than 200 migrants at the bus depot in El Paso without money, food or means of communication. They were released late Sunday evening.

CNN’s Nick Valencia reported that ICE plans to release more than 500 more migrants seeking asylum in the same city on Wednesday, but with more cooperation with local aid organizations. They will also be released in Las Cruces, New Mexico. . .

ICE Continues to Release Asylum-Seekers at Public Park in El Paso, Texas

By NPR. For the third day in a row, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials released hundreds of migrant asylum-seekers at a park near a bus station in downtown El Paso. The comparisons to Mary and Joseph wandering the roads of Bethlehem seeking shelter are unavoidable for dozens of volunteers who have stepped in to help. Especially on Christmas Day.

“I kept having the phrase go through my head last night, ‘There’s no room at the inn, we’ve got to make some,'” Kathryn Schmidt, a social worker who co-founded the Borderland Rainbow Center, an LGBTQ community center, told NPR. . .

Beginning on Sunday and continuing into Christmas Eve, ICE dropped off approximately 400 migrants near the Greyhound bus terminal with no apparent plan in place for the men, women and children.

Typically, ICE coordinates with local shelters whenever the agency’s processing centers are over capacity. But this time ICE failed to contact them in advance, and has continued to bus the mostly Central American immigrants to the public park, leaving them completely reliant on generous strangers who have been showing up in droves to distribute food, water and blankets as temperatures drop into the 40s.

But by Christmas afternoon, when 134 immigrants were released by federal agents, ICE had resumed communications with local aid organizations who are now transporting the migrants to nearby shelters. (Read more from “ICE Continues to Release Asylum-Seekers at Public Park in El Paso, Texas” HERE)

Joe Biden Feels Stung as Obama Plays ‘Footsie’ With Other Democrats Eyeing 2020 Bid

By Washington Examiner. Vice President Joe Biden is reportedly upset that his former boss, Barack Obama, has been talking to other Democrats about a 2020 run for president.

Earlier this month, the Washington Post reported that Rep. Beto O’Rourke, who recently lost to Sen. Ted Cruz in their Texas midterm election contest, met with former President Obama last month as he considers his own White House bid.

According to insiders who spoke to Vanity Fair, word that Obama is speaking to potential Democratic contenders has miffed Biden, 76, who has privately been considering a campaign of his own against President Trump. . .

“If Obama is playing footsie with people now, it creates tension,” said an adviser who works for a potential 2020 Democratic presidential candidate. “And it gets you some media attention and maybe some staffing. But actual voters? Obama himself has always been popular with Democrats, but I’ve never seen his popularity be transferrable to someone else.” (Read more from “Joe Biden Feels Stung as Obama Plays ‘Footsie’ With Other Democrats Eyeing 2020 Bid” HERE)

Beto O’Rourke Meets With Obama Amid Speculation of 2020 Presidential Run

By Washington Examiner. Rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-Texas, met with Barack Obama as he considers making a 2020 presidential bid.

The former Democratic candidate, who took on Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, in the 2018 midterms, met with the former president in his offices in Foggy Bottom Nov. 16, according to a Washington Post report.

O’Rourke became a popular candidate in Hollywood among celebrities such as singer Beyonce, basketball star LeBron James, and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, in an attempt to turn Texas blue. . .

Sources close to the O’Rourke campaign told the Post that Obama offered several times to help the campaign, including traveling to Texas for a rally or recording a robo-call offering his endorsement. . .

“I don’t think we’re interested [in an endorsement],” O’Rourke said after a town hall at a local high school. “I am so grateful to him for his service, he’s going to go down as one of the greatest presidents. And yet, this [election] is on Texas.” (Read more from “Beto O’Rourke Meets With Obama Amid Speculation of 2020 Presidential Run” HERE)
