Eric Swalwell’s Anti-Gun, Gaffe-Prone Presidential Bid to Come to a Close

Eric Swalwell, the Democratic House member who made gun control a key focus of his 2020 presidential camapaign, will end his bid for the Oval Office, reports say.

The Los Angeles Times reported Monday morning that Swalwell was expected to end his presidential bid and instead focus his energy on getting re-elected to his Bay Area congressional seat in California. “A Capitol Hill source with knowledge” of Swalwell’s plans confirmed the story to the Times.

The candidate is expected to confirm these reports at a press conference Monday afternoon.

Speculation about a dropout started circling over the long holiday weekend after Swalwell canceled Fourth of July events in New Hampshire, a key primary election state. The candidate hasn’t gotten even one percent in any DNC-approved polls for the last month.

Swalwell would be the first major dropout from the incredibly crowded Democratic presidential field, though not the first overall. Long-shot candidate and West Virginia state lawmaker Richard Ojeda ended his bid for the White House back in January, saying that he didn’t “want to see people send money to a campaign that’s probably not going to get off the ground.”

A longtime proponent of gun control policies — and the guy who tweeted about nuking gun owners — Eric Swalwell made anti-gun animus a major part of his presidential campaign. Last month, he put forward a comprehensive gun control plan that included a national firearms registry, a federal ban on magazines that hold over 10 rounds, background checks on all ammunition purchases, a federal ban on armed schoolteachers, and a ban on online ammo sales.

Swalwell’s anti-gun crusade also backfired on him in a very visible way a few weeks ago when he scheduled a protest outside NRA headquarters in Northern Virginia and only a handful of people showed up for it. “No wonder he is polling at 0%,” the NRA joked in response.

The Swalwell campaign was also hindered by its candidate’s gaffe-prone nature. The Democrat recently took a lot of heat for a comment implying that all Hispanics are illegal immigrants. He complained that the word “woman” isn’t in the Constitution, overlooking the fact that “man” isn’t either. He was accused of sexism after refusing to debate NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch on guns.

Swalwell’s departure from the 2020 picture would still leave around two dozen candidates to vie for the Democratic party’s nomination. (For more from the author of “Eric Swalwell’s Anti-Gun, Gaffe-Prone Presidential Bid to Come to a Close” please click HERE)

Eric Swalwell’s Race-Baiting: ‘If You’re Hispanic,’ Trump Will ‘Cage Your Children’

Political attacks seem to get coarser and coarser, but 2020 Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) seemed to redefine disgusting race-baiting rhetoric over the weekend. On Saturday, he warned all Hispanic Americans that President Donald Trump would break up their families, put their children in cages, and “erase” their existence in the census.

“If you’re Hispanic, there’s nothing [Donald Trump] wont do to break up your family, cage your children, or erase your existence with a weaponized census. And there’s nothing we won’t do in the streets, courts, and at the ballot box to stop him,” Swalwell tweeted.

In this one tweet, Swalwell repeated the blatant lie about “kids in cages,” and used race-baiting in a ridiculous attempt to demonize Trump and gain support for his longshot presidential bid. He also seemingly insulted all Hispanic Americans — by suggesting that none of them are legal inhabitants of this country. Perhaps he should meet prominent Republican Senators Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), former presidential candidates who are themselves Hispanic and legal citizens who oppose illegal immigration. . .

As for “kids in cages,” this frequently repeated Democrat smear comes from a viral photo of a child in a cage. That photo did not come from Trump’s immigration policy, but rather from an orchestrated protest against the Trump administration. Other photos came from 2014, during the Obama administration.

Last May, Trump tweeted, “Democrats mistakenly tweet 2014 pictures from Obama’s term showing children from the Border in steel cages. They thought it was recent pictures in order to make us look bad, but backfires. Dems must agree to Wall and new Border Protection for good of country…Bipartisan Bill!” PolitiFact rated his statement “True.” (Read more from “Eric Swalwell’s Race-Baiting: ‘If You’re Hispanic,’ Trump Will ‘Cage Your Children'” HERE)

LOL: Here’s How Many People Attended Swalwell’s Gun Confiscation Speech

By Breitbart. Roughly 18 people attended Democrat presidential hopeful Eric Swalwell’s (D-CA) speech Monday near the National Rifle Association (NRA) headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia.

On June 14, Breitbart News reported that Swalwell would be delivering a speech on his gun controls near the NRA headquarters.

A video published by Politico shows that Swalwell used the speech to push confiscatory laws for AR-15s and other commonly-owned semiautomatic rifles, as well as a repeal of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA). That act protects gun manufacturers from suits in cases considered frivolous, such as when a legally manufactured and legally sold gun is stolen and used in a crime.

Democratic Presidential Candidate Eric Swalwell Releases Gun Control Plan

By CBS News. Rep. Eric Swalwell released an extensive gun violence prevention plan Monday that includes an assault-style rifle ban and buyback and new legal requirements for gun ownership.

Swalwell, a Democratic presidential candidate, has repeatedly said his presidential platform would be centered on gun violence prevention, and on Monday called for significant investments in mental health and safety programs. The plan does not go as far as some other Democratic gun control plans, such as Sen. Cory Booker’s proposal, which would require potential gun owners to go through a process that includes an interview, passing a gun safety course and background check, and being fingerprinted.

Swalwell’s plan calls for those who refuse to give up their assault rifles to be prosecuted unless they keep those guns at hunting lodges or shooting ranges. He also took aim at gun manufactures, saying the Protection for Lawful Commerce in Guns Act, a federal law that protects gun manufacturers from civil liability, should be repealed. Additionally, he said gun companies should be forced to stop manufacturing assault-style rifles. . .

But Swalwell’s plan also includes the creation of a national firearm registry, a policy pro-gun groups like the NRA have long opposed. (Read more from “Democratic Presidential Candidate Eric Swalwell Releases Gun Control Plan” HERE)

Liberal Host Corrects Eric Swalwell on Virginia Shooting Despite His Anti-Gun ‘Expertise’

By Townhall. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) on Wednesday made an appearance on “The View.” Naturally, the discussion turned to his desire for gun control, especially after last week’s tragic shooting in Virginia Beach. When asked what could be done to keep this from happening again, Swalwell reiterated his desire for an “assault weapons” ban and buyback program.

“First, ban and buyback every assault weapon in America. I’m the only candidate calling for that. That will go a long way. Kids are sitting paralyzed with fear in their classrooms today and you can’t measure that,” Swalwell explained. “We can measure the deaths and the loss and we mourn the dead, but the fear that a kid has in their classroom today, you can’t measure that.”

Whoopi Goldberg did, however, remind Swalwell of one important tidbit: the Virginia Beach shooter was an average guy and he carried his attack out with “regular guns” – a handgun – and not an AR-15.

What’s ironic is Swalwell citied Chicago’s shootings this past weekend

“Southside Chicago this weekend. 50 shootings. 50 people were shot. 10 people killed. That’s different than the church shootings and the school shootings. Those are blocks that we’ve failed to invest in. People don’t have hope,” he said.

Presidential Hopeful Swalwell Leaves Door Open for Reelection to House

By The Hill. Democratic presidential hopeful Eric Swalwell sees June as his time to shine — but if America doesn’t fall in love with the four-term congressman, he’s still open to running for a fifth term in the House.

Swalwell (D-Calif.) is in the midst of the first real television blitz of his two-month-old 2020 presidential campaign. He appeared at a CNN town hall event Sunday, was on “The Daily Show” on Monday and on Tuesday he joins “The View” for a daytime segment.

“June’s an opportunity to introduce myself to the country,” Swalwell told The Hill in an interview this weekend, on the sidelines of the California Democratic Party’s annual convention.

Swalwell has already met polling criteria for inclusion in this month’s first Democratic debates, on June 26 and 27, though he has not collected the 65,000 donors that would allow him to meet the Democratic National Committee’s second threshold.

He is not concerned yet with the polls that show him as an asterisk — or, on occasion, with the support of just one percent of respondents. (Read more from “Presidential Hopeful Swalwell Leaves Door Open for Reelection to House” HERE)
