Pelosi Says the House Will Pass a Border Bill but There’s a Catch

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Sunday said the House of Representatives will advance a border bill brought about by the House Appropriations Committee. The announcement comes after President Donald Trump’s last minute decision to cancel a deportation raid that was scheduled for Sunday in 10 cities. Trump said he would give Congress two weeks to pass a border bill before the raid is reinstated.

According to Pelosi, the House will provide humanitarian aid that’s needed to keep families together.

“The President’s failed policies have exacerbated the situation at the border, where vulnerable children endure inhumane conditions that threaten their health, well-being and sometimes, tragically, their lives. This legislation provides urgently-needed humanitarian assistance for families, including funding for food, shelter, clothing, medical care and legal assistance, and will relieve the horrific situation of over-crowding and help prevent additional deaths,” Pelosi said in a statement. “And we are providing urgent assistance to local communities to help defray their costs of providing humanitarian assistance to asylum seekers.”

Pelosi said the legislation “does not fund the Administration’s failed mass detention policy” and “places strict limits on influx shelters, protects sponsors from DHS immigration enforcement based on information collected by HHS during the vetting process and creates strong oversight by Congress including to protect unaccompanied children.” (Read more from “Pelosi Says the House Will Pass a Border Bill but There’s a Catch” HERE)

Trump GOES OFF on Pelosi: ‘Nasty, Vindictive, Horrible’

By Fox News. . . .Speaking exclusively to Fox News’ Laura Ingraham in Normandy, France, in an interview that aired Thursday, the president first took time to pay tribute to the heroes who fought on D-Day 75 years ago, describing them as “incredibly brave people” who displayed incredible “valor.”

Then, the president switched gears, slamming Pelosi, D-Calif., as a “nasty, vindictive, horrible person” — after saying he had “tried to be nice to her.”

“I think she’s a disgrace. I actually don’t think she’s a talented person, I’ve tried to be nice to her because I would have liked to have gotten some deals done,” Trump said on “The Ingraham Angle.”

“She’s incapable of doing deals, she’s a nasty, vindictive, horrible person, the Mueller report came out, it was a disaster for them.” (Read more from “Trump GOES off on Pelosi: ‘Nasty, Vindictive, Horrible'” HERE)

Mark Meadows: Russia Investigation’s Origins ‘Built on a Foundation of Sand’

By Fox News. The origins of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation are built on a flimsy foundation, according to House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows.

Rep. Meadows, R-N.C., reacted to reports Mueller could be called by Democrats to testify before Congress, in an appearance Thursday on “Hannity.”

Meadows claimed the FBI and Justice Department knew shortly into the probe that former British spy Christopher Steele — who compiled the anti-Trump dossier — was not a “credible” individual, among other developments.

“Within 60 days of them opening the investigation, prior to Bob Mueller coming on, the FBI and DOJ knew that Christopher Steele was not credible, the dossier was not true and [former Trump campaign associate] George Papadopoulos was innocent,” the lawmaker claimed.

“And so, when you look at that foundation, it’s all built really on a foundation of sand, and that’s going to start to show very soon.” (Read more from “Mark Meadows: Russia Investigation’s Origins ‘Built on a Foundation of Sand'” HERE)

Pelosi Ridicules Liberals, Says They’re Not Smart Enough to Understand Impeachment

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) recently expressed concerns that the American public is not smart enough to truly understand the impeachment process. . .

Fellow Democrat members are desperately trying to build a pro-impeachment coalition– one Pelosi would be unable to withstand. A number of House Democrats have been setting up a series of meetings in an effort to recruit and beef up their pro-impeachment movement, according to a report from the Daily Beast.

Despite Pelosi’s subtle shift in tone, there’s still an element of hesitancy for pursuing impeachment. It’s seemingly rooted in her concern for the American people’s mental capacity, or lack thereof.

Pelosi reportedly made the remarks during a closed-door members’ meeting following Memorial Day weekend, according to the Daily Beast, who reported:

The Speaker, according to two sources with knowledge of the meeting, expressed concerns that the public still doesn’t understand how the process of impeachment would play out. She noted that in her time over the recess in California well educated voters didn’t seem to understand that impeachment proceedings would not necessarily result in Trump’s immediate ouster from office.

Liberals Are Furious at Nancy Pelosi After Her Response to Mueller’s Statement — Here’s Why

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) offered a statement excoriating President Donald Trump after the public statement by special counsel Robert Mueller, and she was lambasted on social media over it — by liberals.

Pelosi released a statement after the briefing, but did not even mention the word “impeachment” in the text.

“[Mueller] stated that the decision not to indict stemmed directly from the Department of Justice’s policy that a sitting President cannot be indicted,” said Pelosi in the statement. “Despite Department of Justice policy to the contrary, no one is above the law – not even the President.” . . .

Democrats and other opponents of the president fumed at Pelosi for not rushing headlong into impeaching the president.

“Something is VERY wrong w/ Pelosi’s answers today,” responded former Florida Democratic candidate Pam Keith. “Does she have no idea who she serves, who her base is, what her legacy will be, what the job demands?”

Pelosi Just Came to This Conclusion About Facebook

By Townhall. Liberals were up in arms over a doctored video of Speaker Nancy Pelosi that showed up on Facebook last week. The video was slowed down to make her appear confused and as if her age is finally catching up to her. Democrats brought the video to Facebook’s attention, letting them know the video had been doctored. Facebook came back and said it didn’t violate their terms of service, therefore, the video can stay.

During an interview with KQED-TV, Pelosi made a rather interesting comment about the video, saying Facebook executives are “willing enablers” of Russian’s election meddling back in 2016. The fact that they won’t remove the video of her is evidence of that.

We have said all along, poor Facebook, they were unwittingly exploited by the Russians. I think wittingly, because right now they are putting up something that they know is false. I think it’s wrong. I can take it…But [Facebook is] lying to the public,” Pelosi said. . .

According to the Washington Post, Facebook has “heavily reduced” the video’s appearance in people’s news feeds. The vide now has an info box with various links to fact checks that indicate the video is false. If someone tries to share the video, a popup tells the user there’s “additional reporting” on the video. The social media website does not come out and directly say the video is false. Nancy Pelosi: Doctored Videos Show Facebook ‘Willing Enablers’ of Russians in 2016

By KQED. Trump shared one heavily edited video on Twitter, which was first featured on Fox News, accusing the speaker of “stammering” through a news conference. Pelosi said Facebook knows the videos are false and should take them down. . .

Pelosi added, “I think they have proven — by not taking down something they know is false — that they were willing enablers of the Russian interference in our election.” . . .

Pelosi was speaking to KQED News less than two hours after special counsel Robert Mueller made his first public comments on his two-year investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. She didn’t give much ground on impeachment, but pledged that Democrats will continue to probe President Trump. Pelosi’s Ridiculous Claim: Trump May Have Committed ‘Impeachable Offense’ in ‘Plain Sight’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told a left-leaning audience on Wednesday that President Trump may have committed “an impeachable offense,” ratcheting up her warnings to the White House even as she and her deputies try to tamp down calls from the rank-and-file to press forward on impeachment now.

Pelosi, D-Calif., speaking at the Center for American Progress 2019 Ideas Conference in Washington, D.C., outlined a potential path to impeachment — moments after a contentious meeting at the White House ended with Trump departing for the Rose Garden to publicly accuse Democrats of a presidential “takedown.”

“The fact is, in plain sight, in the public domain, this president is obstructing justice and he’s engaged in a cover-up. And that could be an impeachable offense,” Pelosi told the audience, which broke out in applause.

“Ignoring the subpoenas of Congress was Article 3 of the Nixon Impeachment. So, it’s not just the substance that we are after, that we want to have to get the truth to the American people, but in striving to get that the intervention, the obstruction that the administration is engaged in is, as they say, the cover-up is frequently worse than the crime.” . . .

“Let me just say, we take on oath of office, to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. Democrats take that oath seriously, and we are committed to honoring our oath of office. I’m not sure our Republican colleagues share that commitment, and I’m not sure the President of the United States does.” (Read more from “Pelosi’s Ridiculous Claim: Trump May Have Committed ‘Impeachable Offense’ in ‘Plain Sight'” HERE)

Dems Clash in Closed Meeting over Trump Impeachment

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is once again struggling to maintain control over her new majority’s caucus — even battling dissension among her own leadership team. Pelosi has already faced multiple rank-and-file insurrections on GOP-led motions to recommit, caved to pressure and lost a battle over condemning a freshman member’s anti-Semitism, decided to ignore her chamber’s budgeting requirements in order to sidestep endless intra-party spending battles, and recently watched as her party was forced to shelve (since revived) DREAM Act legislation due to internal squabbling over extending amnesty to people with criminal records. Her latest headache is on impeachment, which she’s opposed for months on tactical grounds.

Her rhetorical fence-straddling has been awkward and strained at times (what does this mean?), and now it appears as though there’s a growing chance that her delicate balancing act could be heading toward a breaking point (see update). In a closed-door meeting yesterday, top House Democrats reportedly clashed over the issue of pursuing impeachment against President Trump. Though Pelosi did not abandon her opposition to the idea, her stance came under siege from some typical allies:

More details, via Politico:

House Democratic leaders sparred internally on Monday over whether to begin an impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump, with Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her allies rejecting the call to move forward for now, according to multiple sources. Reps. David Cicilline of Rhode Island, Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Joe Neguse of Colorado — all members of Democratic leadership — pushed to begin impeachment proceedings during a leadership meeting in Pelosi’s office, said the sources. Pelosi and Reps. Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico, Hakeem Jeffries of New York and Cheri Bustos of Illinois — some of her key allies — rejected their calls, saying Democrats’ message is being drowned out by the fight over possibly impeaching Trump…

House Conservatives Sign Letter Urging Pelosi Not to Blow out out Spending Limits in New Budget

Several Republican members of the House of Representatives are urging speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., to take a “modest” step toward controlling the national debt by sticking to Congress’ current spending limits.

“As you know, our nation recently surpassed $22 trillion in debt,” explains the letter spearheaded by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, and signed by dozens of other members. “With every hour that passes, we add $100 million to that figure. That is unconscionable. That must end.”

The letter goes on to point out that, even at current spending levels with the same currently low interest rates, “spending on interest alone will surpass defense spending within 5 years.” It also points out that Medicare and Social Security are slated to run out of money in the next few years.

“The good news is that current law is on our side to restrain spending,” the letter continues. “Congress should hold overall spending to the caps levels already in place while ensuring our men and women in uniform have the tools necessary to do their job. Doing so would be a modest step on a path towards balancing the budget.”

The Budget Control Act of 2011 is another example of Washington D.C.’s seemingly never-ending, debt-increasing budgetary pageantry.

As a Congressional Research Service report explains, the BCA was originally passed with enforcement mechanisms to control spending and the debt. However, raising spending limits and the debt ceiling have pretty much become regular occurrences on Capitol Hill.

Roy recently called out efforts by Congressional leadership to raise the debt limit, saying, “Only in Washington is it considered appropriate to endlessly lift one’s borrowing limit without even a hint of shame or a plan to stop it.”

“If we can’t at least agree to stick to the [spending] caps, we will cease to be the ‘land of opportunity,’ where one’s circumstances at birth needn’t define one’s life trajectory,” the new letter concludes. “Hold to the caps, budget like American families do every day, and let’s work on a bipartisan basis to ensure a bright future for our sons and daughters.”

Current signatories include Reps. Jim Jordan, Ohio; Mark Meadows, N.C.; Andy Biggs, Ariz.; Louie Gohmert, Texas; Ken Buck, Colo.; Thomas Massie, Ky.; Justin Amash, Mich.; Jeff Duncan, S.C.; and Warren Davidson, Ohio.

The letter will be sent to the speaker’s office on Friday, a press release explains, and Roy’s office will continue to collect signatures until it is sent over. Here Are the FACTS About Pelosi’s and Nadler’s So-Called ‘Constitutional Crisis’ Over the Mueller Report

Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., says that the United States is in a “crisis” because the administration is violating the Constitution in its standoff with House Democrats over the Mueller report.

The facts, however, tell a different story.

“If your question is will the administration violate the Constitution of the United States and not abide by the request of Congress in its legitimate oversight responsibilities, that remains to be seen,” the speaker told reporters at her weekly press conference on Thursday. “Every day they are advertising their obstruction of justice by ignoring subpoenas” and other objections to House Democrats’ demands.

Pelosi went on to say that she agrees with House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., in his assertion that the United States is supposedly now in the middle of a “constitutional crisis” because “the administration has decided that they are not going to honor their oath of office.”

So, are the Trump administration’s actions really a violation of the Constitution? Let’s do a quick fact-check here. What does the Constitution say about this particular situation? Not that much.

Here are the facts:

Attorney General Barr released a redacted version of a confidential report on the Mueller report, which he was under no statutory obligation to do.

Nadler subpoenaed the full, unredacted Mueller report and its underlying evidence from the Department of Justice.

The Department has objected to this, saying that the requested materials contain grand jury information that is protected by section 6(e) of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure.

That section of the rules says that grand jury information cannot be made public without a court order, which has not been issued.

Despite all this, the DOJ has allowed a dozen members of Congress to come and view a less-redacted version in a secure location at the Department.

None of the six permitted Democrats have come forward so far to take advantage of that offer.

The Department of Justice has reiterated its invitation for Nadler to come view the less-redacted report and work out a compromise in compliance with federal rules.

House/DOJ talks fell apart, and House Democrats scheduled contempt proceedings against Barr.

In response to the contempt proceedings, the White House invoked executive privilege over the contested portions of the Mueller report.

The House of Representatives’ own website acknowledges that the “Constitution says nothing about congressional investigations and oversight,” but says that Congress’ oversight powers were rather implied by historical understanding of the Founders, who got their understanding of it from Congress’ forerunners in the British parliament.

There’s no specific language in the document that gives Congress the ability to issue subpoenas, nor is there anything that outlines how the executive branch is supposed to respond to congressional subpoenas that demand information that can’t be released without a court order.

And given the nature of the situation, the argument could very easily be made that the executive branch has already more than upheld its constitutional obligations to Congress’ implied oversight powers by its repeated offers to allow leaders from both parties from both chambers to come and view the document, minus the secret grand jury information.

At most, we appear to be looking at a constitutional question — not a crisis.

Pelosi Reveals Her Biggest Fear of 2020 Dem Win – It’s Ridiculous

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is worried President Trump might not step down if defeated in 2020, according to a report published Saturday. . .

She urged the Democrats to win the debate that matters most to many voters inside the party: electability. “Own the center-left, own the mainstream,” she said. . .

Last Wednesday, Pelosi pushed out a statement taking aim at the Trump administration in the aftermath of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report, blasting the president as “immoral, unethical, corrupt and unpatriotic.” . . .

The President has made clear that he will broadly defy requests for information from Capitol Hill. Trump’s obstruction extends to Democrats’ inquiries on issues that address the challenges facing American families from the Administration’s efforts to sabotage Americans’ health care to its cruel family separation policy,” the statement read.

Trump told Fox News last Thursday that he would not allow former White House counsel Don McGahn or other administration officials to testify. “They’ve testified for many hours, all of them. I would say, it’s done,” the president said. “Nobody has ever done what I’ve done. I’ve given total transparency. It’s never happened before like this. They shouldn’t be looking anymore. It’s done.” (Read more from “Pelosi Reveals Her Biggest Fear of 2020 Dem Win – It’s Ridiculous” HERE)
