On March 25, Indiana Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb signed Senate Enrolled Act No. 340, which amended a previous law that stated, “The state department may inspect an abortion clinic at least one (1) time per calendar year” and replaced the word “may” with the word “shall.”
In addition, the law requires medical providers who treat women for complications arising from abortions to report detailed patient information to the state.
Less than a month later, Planned Parenthood and the ACLU have filed suit against the state, claiming the law “imposes unique and burdensome obligations” that are unconstitutional. The plaintiffs argue that the law is unconstitutional because it targets abortions and abortion providers and not other procedures or clinics.
Jane Henegar, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana, snapped, “Once again Indiana politicians are barging into the exam room with irrational demands and intrusive requirements.” The lawsuit claims many of the abortion complications listed by the law “are both extremely rare for abortions and are more likely to occur after other medical procedures.” . . .
Christie Gillespie, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky, echoed that the new law “is not about patient safety” while asserting abortion care “is already incredibly safe.” (Read more from “Planned Parenthood Sues State Because They Don’t Want to Be Inspected” HERE)

The council in the borough of Ealing in West London has ruled that pro-life protesters must stay outside a “safe zone” around an abortion clinic. The motion passed the council unanimously . . .
The United Kingdom-based Catholic pro-life group, The Good Counsel Network, has protested outside a Marie Stopes abortion clinic in Ealing for years. Now the organization that runs that clinic has successfully petitioned the local government to keep them from doing so . . .
Clare McCullough, the director of The Good Counsel Network, told The Guardian, “The women we speak to are being offered a leaflet, offered help, and hundreds of women are accepting that vote. These are women who have no alternative but abortion – illegal immigrants, victims of domestic violence. We’re telling them there are alternatives if they want them.”
The ban will apply to all pro-life groups, not just The Good Counsel Network. For now, the ban appears to be limited to one Marie Stopes clinic in Ealing . . .
The Good Counsel Network insisted in a letter it sent to U.K. Home Secretary Amber Rudd that it does not intimidate women entering the clinic, show graphic images of abortion, or give inaccurate medical information, and that its actions are limited to handing out fliers and quietly praying from a distance. The Atlantic has fired conservative writer Kevin Williamson after a past episode of his podcast resurfaced in which he called for women who have abortions to face the death penalty.
The Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg made the announcement to staff in a memo Thursday, according to multiple media reports.
Kevin Williamson has been fired from The Atlantic.
From Jeffrey Goldberg's letter to staff: "The language he used in this podcast—and in my conversations with him in recent days—made it clear that the original tweet did, in fact, represent his carefully considered views."
Williamson’s hiring last month had already drawn scrutiny over past tweets in which he stated that “the law should treat abortion like any other homicide” and that for punishment, “I have hanging more in mind.” Those tweets have since been deleted.
“The language he used in this podcast — and in my conversations with him in recent days — made it clear that the original tweet did, in fact, represent his carefully considered views,” Goldberg wrote in the memo.
“The tweet was not merely an impulsive, decontextualized, heat-of-the-moment post, as Kevin had explained it. Furthermore, the language used in the podcast was callous and violent. This runs contrary to The Atlantic’s tradition of respectful, well-reasoned debate, and to the values of our workplace.” (Read more from “Conservative Writer FIRED for Endorsing Death Penalty for Abortion” HERE)

Catholic college students are threatening, harassing, and targeting a Resident Advisor (RA), including with a cartoon depicting him being anally raped, for posting a bulletin board affirming Catholic teaching on marriage . . .
Providence College, where this is taking place, is run by the Dominican order’s Province of St. Joseph – well-known in most places for its orthodoxy. However, in response to repeated vandalism of the bulletin board and other student employees threateningly congregating outside the Catholic RA’s door – requiring campus security to move Smalanskas to a safe, undisclosed location – the college’s president, a Dominican priest, said “it belongs to a Catholic college to consider the views of those who disagree with the Church’s teaching.”
Another administrator, Vice President of Student Affairs Kristine Goodwin, sent an email to student leaders on March 14 encouraging them to attend a protest “against homophobia and transphobia,” quoting Pope Francis’ now-infamous claim that the Church should apologize to gays, and quoting Father Timothy Radcliffe, a Dominican priest who has suggested sodomy can be “eucharistic.”
Smalanskas is a 22-year-old senior and former seminarian from Holden, Massachusetts. He’s double majoring in philosophy and theology.
What is the “offense” Smalanskas committed that infuriated his fellow students so much they’ve called for him to be fired and raped? He posted a bulletin board articulating what the Catholic Church teaches about “Marriage: The Way God Intended It.” (Read more from “Catholic College Won’t Defend Student Threatened With Gay Rape for Defending Marriage” HERE)

By CBN News. Dr. Leah Torres is a self-proclaimed “Nasty Woman OB/GYN” promoting healthy sexual practices and education. The political activist and general “do-gooder” has the pro-life community in an uproar with her gruesome statements outlining how she “silences” the child during the abortion procedure.
According to a report by Lifesite earlier this week, Dr. Torres tweeted, “You know fetuses can’t scream right? If transect the cord first so there’s really no opportunity, if they’re far enough along to have a larynx.” . . .
The gory comments have people like citizen journalist David Daleiden taking to Twitter to decry her disturbing statements.
The activist known for going undercover to expose Planned Parenthood for selling parts of unborn babies says:
Some call it an attempt at dark humor. But Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, isn’t buying it. “The tweet reveals the callousness and complete disregard for human life that is the hallmark of the abortion industry,” Hwakins said. “Joking about killing pre-born babies reflects the lack of respect for human dignity.” (Read more from “Doctor Admits She ‘Silences’ Fetuses So They Won’t Scream” HERE)

Abortion Returns to Supreme Court as Clinics Claim Speech Rights
By Bloomberg. For years, [anti-life] advocates have used the First Amendment as a weapon to challenge laws that require doctors to display an ultrasound or describe a fetus in detail to a patient.
Now it’s the anti-abortion side that says its speech rights are being violated.
The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments Tuesday on a California law that forces licensed pregnancy-counseling clinics that promote childbirth as an alternative to tell patients they might be eligible for free or discounted abortions. Pregnancy centers say they are being compelled to advertise a procedure they abhor. (Read more from “Abortion Returns to Supreme Court as Clinics Claim Speech Rights” HERE)

By NPR. In his State of the State Address in 2014, Gov. Phil Bryant announced a goal: “to end abortion in Mississippi.”
Bryant has now signed a law that makes his state the most difficult state in the country to get an abortion. It is called the Gestational Age Act, and it bans abortions after 15 weeks of gestation, except in the case of a medical emergency or a severe fetal abnormality. The law does not make exceptions in cases of rape or incest. The Mississippi House passed the measure on March 8, and Bryant signed it into law on Monday.
The Associated Press reports that Mississippi’s only clinic that does abortions has sued the state in response to the legislation. In 2012, that same clinic, The Jackson Women’s Health Organization, filed a lawsuit challenging a different bill Bryant signed into law. That bill enacted stricter requirements for abortion facilities, including a requirement that all physicians associated with an abortion facility have the right to admit patients to a local hospital. It was eventually blocked by a federal district court in 2013.
After signing this latest bill, Bryant wrote on Twitter, “I am committed to making Mississippi the safest place in America for an unborn child, and this bill will help us achieve that goal.”

State Bans Abortion After 15 Weeks
By WND. Mississippi’s governor signed the most restrictive abortion law in the nation Monday, banning the procedure after 15 weeks while providing no exemptions for rape or incest.
Republican Gov. Phil Bryant said he wants his state to be the “safest place in America for an unborn child.”
Within hours of signing the bill the state’s sole abortion clinic filed a lawsuit.
The new measure does provide exemptions if the pregnant woman’s life or “major bodily function” is threatened, or if the unborn child could not survive outside the womb.
Prior to passage of the law, Mississippi was among 17 states that banned abortion after 20 weeks. (Read more from “State Bans Abortion After 15 Weeks” HERE)
. . .LifeNews recently discovered heavy pro-abortion biases in a best-selling American government textbook. Digging a little deeper, we learned that the lead author of the textbook, “American Government: Roots and Reform” (Pearson) by Karen J. O’Connor and Larry J. Sabato, is an abortion advocate . . .
A member of the U-46 School Board near Chicago, [a parent] raised concerns about the textbook in December after discovering biased sections about abortion and other political issues. She cast the sole vote against it.
LifeNews, which reviewed sections of the new AP edition of the textbook, now in its 13th edition, found several deeply concerning passages. And while many educators do put aside their bias to teach students, it appears that lead author Karen O’Connor did not . . .
One example is the very first paragraph of the introduction to students:
“Why is learning about history important to the study of politics today? And how are the ideas of the Framers relevant for understanding modern political issues such as health care, immigration, and abortion rights? … As students of the American political process, it can be challenging to identify what is really important and how government truly affects your lives.”

California has a reason for its requirement that pro-life crisis pregnancy centers promote local abortionists: It thinks women are stupid.
That’s how the Alliance Defending Freedom sums up the state’s attitude in a brief filed with the U.S. Supreme Court defending the non-profit centers in their lawsuit against a state law forcing them to violate their faith-based beliefs regarding abortion.
“California’s arguments about preventing confusion sound in paternalism and exude a low view of women navigating unplanned pregnancies,” says the new ADF filing.
“The state assumes these women are unable to make phone calls, search the internet, or ask basic questions of prospective service providers.”
The California case, National Institute of Family and Life Advocates vs. Becerra, centers on whether local governments can require pro-life crisis pregnancy centers – where women can get counseling, diapers, rent money and more – to inform their clients of free local abortion services and provide contact information. The undercover videos released by the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) in 2015 were shocking to many pro-lifers, especially to those in Texas where much of the footage was obtained. We learned even more about the gruesome practices of the abortion industry: their eagerness to profit from selling body parts from aborted babies was disturbing, even for an industry that profits from ripping apart unborn babies in the womb.
Sadly, the United States Supreme Court severely limits what pro-life laws can be enacted at the state and federal level. This is due to the Court’s ruling in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which holds that judges can strike down laws if they constitute an “undue burden” to women seeking an abortion. However, that hasn’t stopped us from trying several different approaches to promote a culture of life in Texas. One important legislative issue we have been working on in response to the CMP videos has been to require the humane disposition of aborted babies.
In Texas, the remains of aborted babies may be disposed of by interment, cremation, incineration followed by interment, steam disinfection followed by interment, grinding fetal remains and flushing them in the sewer system or discarding them in landfills. In 2016, the Department of State Health Services proposed a rule change, and then last legislative session, the Texas Legislature passed a law, SB 8, removing the options of grinding fetal remains and flushing them in the sewer system or discarding them in landfills.
This law would not make abortion illegal or more difficult to obtain. To use the legal jargon of the Court, it did not create any “substantial obstacle” to women obtaining abortions. She still has a completely free choice whether to choose abortion. The law would simply allow the state to recognize the human dignity of the aborted child, and treat those remains with the respect they deserve.
Unfortunately, the U.S. District Court has issued a preliminary injunction against the state of Texas from enforcing the law. (Read more from “Clinics Grind Remains of Aborted Babies, Flush Them Down Toilet” HERE)

Lent began Wednesday, a time of contemplation and religious seriousness for most Christians, but that’s not stopping a trio of abortionists who say it’s the Christian faith that inspires them to perform abortions.
“I became morally convinced that is was not a conflict of my Christian values to provide abortion care, and in fact it became unethical to me not to do so,” said Christian abortionist Willie Parker.
He recently published a memoir, “Life’s Work: A Moral Argument for Choice,” in which he wrote, “I believe that as an abortion provider, I am doing God’s work.”
He claims he is protecting women’s rights, their human right to decide their futures for themselves, and to live their lives as they see fit according to The New York Times.
Sarah Wallett, the medical director at Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis, has been outspoken about the Christian faith inspiring her work.
“I can imagine no person who is in greater need of Christlike love and excellent medical care than a woman who is faced with an untenable pregnancy, and I am grateful every day to feel thy spirit and thy guiding hand on my work,” Wallett said.
“I think part of changing the conversation around all aspects of reproductive health care is having open, honest conversations about it,” Wallett added, according to the Memphis Daily News. “I hope to be able to provide accurate medical facts about this kind of care as well as compassionate, non-judgmental care for my patients.”
Leroy Carhart, who performs abortions at the new late-term abortion facility in Bethesda, Maryland posits that there is no contradiction between religious faith and performing abortions into the final weeks of pregnancy.
“Those of us committed to reproductive freedom cannot rest while anti-abortion extremists work overtime to rob women of their health, lives and autonomy,” Carhart said in a media release after the clinic opened.
“How can they fail to see the contradiction between taking the lives of unborn children, and claiming faith in Christ, who entered the world as a child in the womb?” executive director of the Pro-Life Action League Eric Scheidler asks according to a media release sent to The Daily Caller News Foundation.
