Why is Alaska Family Action Waging War on Alaska’s Most Pro-Life Candidates?

As the former Executive Director of Alaska Right to Life, I’ve had a front-row seat to the internecine “pro-life” wars that have crippled the movement for years.

It’s time to stop the madness.

Last night I saw an ad sponsored by Alaska Family Action that vilified State House Candidate Christopher Kurka, suggesting that he is an opponent of the pro-life cause. They have done the same to Representative David Eastman.

This is shameful and counter-productive. If there’s one thing I have less patience for than endless purity tests, it’s impurity tests.

I have stood with Christopher Kurka through the night during prayer vigils outside of Planned Parenthood in Anchorage. I’ve watched first-hand his tireless passion for the cause, and his zeal to see babies saved. I’ve worked with him on legislation, on petitions, on education campaigns.

I’ve been to Crisis Pregnancy Center fundraisers with him to raise money for young mothers who find themselves in difficult circumstances.

After several years as Vice President of Alaska Right to Life, Christopher followed me as Executive Director, and served on the board of National Right to Life.

I have never once doubted Christopher Kurka’s absolute and unwavering commitment to the cause of life, nor have I ever doubted his intention to end abortion on demand in America.

I proudly endorse Christopher Kurka for Alaska State House District 7 – Wasilla.

I have also, historically, been an ally of the Alaska Family Council, a supporter, a donor, even an employee, but the scurrilous charges being leveled against Kurka are misleading, and the message they seek to convey is false.

Nobody could plausibly deny that if the Alaska Legislature were filled with people like Christopher Kurka, abortion would be abolished in Alaska.

So, what is this all about? Strategy.

The real gripe with Kurka is that he is too pro-life. You read that right.

And the same could be said for Representative David Eastman, whom I am also happy to endorse. It is simply unacceptable for a Christian organization to attack a man for taking too strong a stand on the most consequential moral issue of our time.

Alaska Family Action wants to pursue an incremental strategy of nibbling away at the edges of Roe v. Wade and the abortion industry. The Republican Establishment, of course, loves this idea. It gives them cover. They can continue to pay lip-service at election time, and they don’t really have to vote on legislation that requires much courage or risk on their part.

Organizations like Alaska Family Action are happily given access, because they’re giving the Republican Establishment exactly what they want. They want political power. Period. That’s all.

So, the Republican Establishment is happy throw pro-lifers a bone every now and then, like once every 20 years or so, like they did with SB 49, which was subsequently overturned by the courts. The only “victory” in recent memory achieved by the incremental strategy proved hollow. It was pyrrhic victory.

The truth is: (1) the Republican power brokers, despite the party platform, do NOT want to end abortion (2) Alaska Family Action, perhaps unwittingly, is being played like a fiddle.

Christopher Kurka, on the other hand, actually wants a frontal assault on Roe v. Wade, and he’s willing to push legislation to make that happen.

This, of course, doesn’t sit well with Establishment politicians. They want the benefit of pro-life votes without having to take positions on controversial legislation. They want talk without action. They want the appearance of virtue without the price of struggle.

Christopher Kurka’s crime? Being a conservative who actually wants to overturn Roe v. Wade, even if it costs him something.

This makes him a dangerous man to the political Establishment. Now you know why Washington DC is pouring tens of thousands of dollars into an obscure State House race in Alaska.

Ditto for Eastman.

Coincidentally, the top targets of Alaska Family Action and Republican Establishment attacks are the same. Likely not an accident.

I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that the Washington DC Republican Establishment is funding Alaska Family Action’s attacks.

Regardless of intent, Alaska Family Action is burning their donors’ money on safe pro-life seats, proving to be little more than a front group for the Republican Establishment, creating inertia, and harming the cause.

Compromise is not a strategy. Conviction is not a weakness. And division is a dead-end road.

My former employer, Alaska Right to Life, is also engaged in a vicious campaign against Jesse Sumner. I reject these tactics as well.

We’re fighting spiritual wars with carnal weapons.

If your organization carries freight with the voters, your endorsement and promotion of your chosen candidate should be sufficient.

When I was Executive Director of Alaska Right to Life during the 2012 cycle, we defeated multiple incumbents without these tactics. In fact, 21 out of our 27 endorsed candidates in that cycle won their elections.

I defy anyone in either organization to show me better results in the years since we went a different direction.

Christians engaging in vicious partisan politics actually undercuts the moral authority of our cause.

I have not always risen above this template myself, for which I am sorry. But I do recognize it as error.

We have all been damaged by the vicious cycle of the post-Murkowski write-in era.

We are enjoined by Scripture to “do good unto all men, ESPECIALLY to those who are of the household of faith.”

Let us begin again, and let it be said of us, “Behold, how they love one another!”

It’s time for pro-lifers to unite around substance, and eschew vacuous quibbles over strategies that have already proved disastrously futile.

It doesn’t have to be either/or, an all-of-the-above strategy is possible if we work together.

It’s time for pro-lifers to stop fighting each other, and stand shoulder-to-shoulder in common cause.

Christians are not called to swear fealty to the Republican Party bosses. Our first loyalty must be to God and His truth alone.

Alaska Family Council/Action and Alaska Right to Life both need to do some soul-searching and recover their respective missions.

In the meantime, I urge you to vote on Tuesday, August 18, for pro-life candidates who will actually fight to end abortion.

Christopher Kurka is the right choice for State House District 7, and David Eastman for State House District 10.

Trump: First President in History to Speak at the March for Life

By CNN. On Friday, Donald Trump became the first President to speak in person at the March for Life in Washington. This is a really big deal.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of pro-life demonstrators come together in our nation’s capital to commemorate the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s wrongly decided Roe v. Wade decision and demand political action that would protect the right to life for the unborn. Now in its 47th year, the march has become the premier event of the pro-life movement.

Trump’s historic appearance was a boon for marchers, as it helped draw increased attention to the event and highlight the pro-life movement’s considerable political success in recent years. It also presents an enormous opportunity for him to reach the many Americans who are on the fence about abortion by drawing a contrast with the extreme positions of his 2020 Democrat opponents. Trump at March for Life: ‘We Are Fighting for Those Who Have No Voice and We Will Win’

By Daily Wire. President Donald Trump gave a rousing speech to tens of thousands of pro-life advocates at the March for Life on Friday in Washington, D.C., declaring that the pro-life movement is going to win in its fight to protect the lives of the unborn.

The president noted his administration’s record in defending human life, from the numerous federal judges that he has appointed to reinstating the Mexico City policy, which blocks U.S. taxpayer money from being sent to foreign organizations that promote or engage in providing abortions.

“Sadly, the far-left is actively working to erase our God-given rights, shut down faith-based charities, ban religious believers from the public square, and silenced Americans who believe in the sanctity of life,” Trump said. “They are coming after me because I am fighting for you and we are fighting for those who have no voice and we will win because we know how to win.”

“Together we are the voice for the voiceless, when it comes to abortion Democrats, and you know this, you’ve seen what’s happened, Democrats have embraced the most radical and extreme positions taken and seen in this country for years and decades and you could even say for centuries,” Trump continued. “Nearly every top Democrat in Congress now supports taxpayer-funded abortion all the way up until the moment of birth.”

“Last year lawmakers in New York cheered with the light upon the passage of legislation that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother’s womb right up until delivery,” Trump continued. “Then we had the case of the Democrat governor in the state of Virginia, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and we love the Commonwealth of Virginia, but what is going on in Virginia? What is going on? The governor stated that he would execute a baby after birth, you remember that.” (Read more from “Trump at March for Life: ‘We Are Fighting for Those Who Have No Voice and We Will Win’” HERE)

Abortionist Arrested After Pointing a Gun at Pro-Life Advocates Outside His Abortion Clinic (VIDEO)

An abortionist based in Phoenix, Arizona has been arrested after he was filmed on video pulling a gun and aiming it at a pro-life advocate protesting abortion outside his abortion business.

Ronald Yunis reportedly pulled out his firearm and pointed the deadly weapon at Elvis Kesto, a local pro-life advocate who has been helping save babies outside the abortion facility for some time.

Apologia Church organized the pro-life demonstration October 10 at the Acacia Women’s Center and posted video of what happened. The incident reportedly occurred around 11:00 a.m. as Yunis left the abortion facility. Kesto walked over to hand information to Yunis, who was in his vehicle, and Yunis, from inside his Tesla, pulled out the firearm.

Now, he has been arrested[.] . . .

Before the arrest, the pro-life victims were concerned about inaction on the part of the Phoenix, Arizona police department. (Read more from “Abortionist Arrested After Pointing a Gun at Pro-Life Advocates Outside His Abortion Clinic” HERE)

Spitting, Twerking, Violent Pro-Abortion Mob Descends upon Pro-Life Group at College (VIDEO)

Things seemed relatively placid when a pro-life group — TFP Student Action — set up a small demonstration with brochures and bagpipes at George Washington University in the nation’s capital late last month. . .

One flustered woman kicked things off, arguing at one point with a pro-lifer that “it’s still a baby inside, but I have every single right to f***ing decide what I do with my own f***ing body!” . . .

TFP Student Action said pro-abortion advocates soon employed social media to organize like-minded folks to gather and confront their members, who were quickly and vastly outnumbered.

“Hail Satan!” one counter-demonstrator yelled, the pro-life group said.

A male student offered that “I eat baby lungs for breakfast!” TFP Student Action added.

Pro-Life Event Forced to Shut down After Bomb Threat, Police Make Arrest

One man has been arrested after a bomb threat at Rochester Community and Technical College in Rochester, Minnesota. The threat was made on Wednesday evening at an event hosted by the pro-life organizations Students for Life of America and 40 Days of Life.

A theater in Rochester Community and Technical College was evacuated on Wednesday as emergency responders arrived at the scene to investigate a suspicious package that had been found the room during the event, according to a report by KIMT3 News.

The event taking place inside the theater was a pro-life presentation hosted by Students for Life of America and 40 Days of Life, featuring guest speaker Noah Maldonado, a Students for Life regional coordinator. According to the organization, a man who had been “suspiciously roaming around the event,” appeared to mix chemicals, and then “dropped a package and left.”

Olmsted County arrest records reveal that Samuel Vanderwiel, who was arrested as a result of the bomb threat, has been charged with one felony count of terroristic threats cause terror with reckless disregard, one count of 5th degree assault; one count of disorderly conduct; and one count of public nuisance annoy/injure/endanger safety; all misdemeanors.

Maldonado said that the man seemed “very agitated during the event and was reportedly mixing chemicals together in his backpack in the center of the room before leaving in a hurry. Many members of the audience were disturbed by the erratic behavior and reported the smell of ammonia.” (Read more from “Pro-Life Event Forced to Shut down After Bomb Threat, Police Make Arrest” HERE)

WATCH: Extremists Attack Pro-Life Activists, Brag Cops Won’t Help Them

In videos first posted by LifeNews, female pro-life sidewalk counselors and activists are seen harassed and forcibly pushed around by pro-abortion activists outside an abortion clinic in Bristol, Tennessee.

Holding a sign with an image of an aborted baby, a pro-life woman is confronted by a pro-abortion activist who repeatedly pushes against the woman’s sign and brags that the cops will not help her. Another activist ridiculed a pro-life woman who was offering to adopt children who are spared by abortion; the pro-abort called the pro-lifer a “childless b****” and told her that she’ll “never” have a baby in her empty womb.

“Stop pushing on my sign,” the pro-lifer tells the abortion activist in a video provided to LifeNews by A Cause for Christ president Sammi Cooper. The incident took place in August.

The pro-abort taunts the woman for being powerless against the harassment and intimidation, daring her to call the cops. “You know what they’ll do? Nothing,” she boasts.

The harassment of pro-life activists outside the abortion facility, according to provided video footage, appears to be persistent since at least August. A Cause for Christ activist Erika Schanzenbach told LifeNews the organization has witnessed “increasingly nasty behavior from the pro-abortion protesters in the past few months.”

Study: 95 Percent of Biologists Say Life Begins at Conception

After a five-year struggle, University of Chicago student Steven Jacobs finally published his study into biologists’ opinions on whether life begins at conception. That study won him a Ph.D., but it also angered the liberal biologists and many others in academia. Some have demonized him, saying his survey seemed developed by the Ku Klux Klan and that it would expedite the extinction of the human race.

Jacobs’ study found that a vast majority of Americans believe biologists should determine the question “When does a human’s life begin?” and that the question is important to the abortion debate. Then Jacobs surveyed biologists and found that 95 percent of them agreed that “a human’s life begins at fertilization.”

Jacobs insists that his paper is not intended to argue the pro-life position in the abortion debate. “This paper does not argue that the finding ‘a fetus is biologically classified as a human at fertilization’ necessitates the position ‘a fetus ought to be considered a person worthy of legal consideration,'” he wrote. Instead, he cites philosopher Peter Singer’s “is-ought” distinction, claiming that Americans can believe life begins at conception and support the killing of unborn babies up until viability or birth. . .

So Jacobs compiled a sample of 5,502 biologists from 1,058 academic institutions (he reached out to 62,469 biologists and 7,383 participated in the survey, but only 5,502 answered the pertinent questions). The biologists predominantly identified as non-religious (63 percent), liberal (89 percent and 11 percent conservative), Democratic (92 percent), and pro-choice (85 percent, only 15 were pro-life). The sample included biologists who were born in 86 countries around the world.

A broad consensus of those biologists affirmed each of three statements representing the view that “a human’s life begins at fertilization” (75 percent-91 percent). Overall, 95 percent affirmed the view that human life begins at conception. (Read more from “Study: 95 Percent of Biologists Say Life Begins at Conception” HERE)

Watch: Facebook Brags About Banning Pro-Life Advertisement Before Ireland’s Abortion Vote

During this year’s Aspen Ideas Festival, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg explained that Facebook is increasingly trying to work with governments to determine what political speech it does and does not allow. Oh sorry, I mean: what kind of political ads it is willing to approve.

In the particular example Zuckerberg cited, in 2018, American pro-life groups wanted to run advertisements for Facebook users in Ireland. This is because the Irish were about to vote in a referendum on whether abortion should be legalized.

When Facebook saw the ad requests, the company contacted the Irish government asking whether this should or should not be allowed. “Their response at the time was, ‘we don’t currently have a law, so you need to make whatever decision you want to make.'”

This is extremely disturbing, but it’s very expected. Facebook’s top managers have a long history of leftist activism, and it’s clear from the company’s policies that they’re pushing their authoritarian leftist views on the company itself. Pro-Life Groups Raise Almost $50,000 to Help Mothers and Babies at the Border in Under a Week

As of Monday, a nationwide effort of pro-life groups to bring relief and supplies to the current border crisis has brought in just under $50,000 in supplies and monetary donations in under a week, representatives from two groups leading the effort told Blaze Media. The goal is to get as many supplies for women and babies to the border as they can provide.

The effort is called “Bottles to the Border” and is the result of collaboration between pro-life New Wave Feminists (NWF) and And Then There Were None (ATTWN), the pro-life ministry for former abortion workers founded by former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson.

Pamela Whitehead, the program director of the Texas-based ATTWN, told Blaze Media in a phone interview that as of Monday, the effort has raised over $30,000 in donations and over $17,500 worth of materials, meaning that the campaign has raised a total amount of $47,500 in just its first six days.

The campaign is being spearheaded by NWF founder Destiny Herndon-De La Rosa and launched last Tuesday.

Ultimately, Herndon-De La Rosa says, this issue “goes well beyond politics.” She calls it “a people issue” and points out that pro-lifers’ concern for human life should extend to vulnerable populations like those at the border, those being trafficked, and others.

“It’s not something where you can just say ‘I only care about these people,’” she concluded. “No, we are a movement that’s built on caring about the human dignity of all human beings.”

This isn’t Herndon-De La Rosa’s first time providing humanitarian aid, nor her first time teaming up with ATTWN to do it. The two organizations also worked together to provide feminine hygiene products to shelters around the Houston area in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in 2017, because those items were left out of most donations, she says.

“I became known as the tampon lady at Costco,” Herndon-De La Rosa remembers with a laugh. “It was ridiculous.”

After that, Herndon-De La Rosa says that her organization’s first foray into helping out the situation at the border started back in December when NWF raised around $9,000 to help out the Respite Center in McAllen, Texas.

But she said after seeing the kind of situation created by America’s ongoing crisis, she actually went through some “burnout” when she got back. “Here I felt like we did so much,” she told Blaze Media over the phone, “but these supplies will be gone in a week because there’s just so much need down there.”

This time, however, Herndon-De La Rosa says she’s approaching this with far more support. A report at Catholic News Agency said that as of last week, over 40 different pro-life groups had signed on to the effort. This week, Herndon-De La Rosa says that number is up to 50.

And though it’s not the typical effort that pro-life groups tend to pursue, it’s all a part of living out a pro-life worldview, Whitehead explains.

“If I lived in a world where abortion was unthinkable but hunger, homelessness, and hopelessness all increased, would I have accomplished my pro-life mission?” Whitehead asked. “If I really want to care about people, then I have to live that out.”

“I don’t think there’s any talking point that’s going to prove that to anyone,” Whitehead says, adding that she believes that actions like these are the best way to change people’s minds.

For the next two weeks, interested donors can still provide monetary assistance to the campaign, which ends on July 13. Whitehead says that monetary donations are far more helpful than sending things to the border.

“If you send stuff to the center, it creates work,” Whitehead explained during the interview. “The last thing I wanted to see was this respite center get a lot of work” like sorting through donated materials.

Those interested in donating to the campaign can go to NWF’s website, where all donations between now and July 13 will be put toward the Bottles to the Border campaign.

“I encourage us as a movement to not just be against abortion. Let’s be a movement that is FOR more than we are against,” Johnson said in a Facebook post last week. “Let’s be a movement that reaches out to those who need our physical and emotional assistance…whether those people are walking into an abortion clinic, at the border, or are homeless.” (For more from the author of “Pro-Life Groups Raise Almost $50,000 to Help Mothers and Babies at the Border in Under a Week” please click HERE)

Grand Jury Refuses to Indict Woman Charged with Assaulting Pro-Life 82-Year-Old

A grand jury refused to indict a woman charged with assaulting an 82-year-old pro-life activist outside Kentucky’s only remaining abortion clinic, the Courier Journal reported.

Janaya Alyce Gregory, 32, was charged with second-degree felony assault after surveillance video showed her approaching Donna Durning outside EMW Women’s Surgical Center April 12 and allegedly pushing her to the sidewalk. Durning was hospitalized with a broken leg that required surgery and rehabilitation. . .

During, a longtime anti-abortion activist, told the Courier Journal in a separate article she was at the clinic on the day of the incident as a part of the local “40 Days for Life” campaign involving her church. . .

The woman initially ignored Durning but then “turned back around and charged at the victim, bumping [the] victim with her body and causing [the] victim to fall backward,” the Courier Journal reported, citing the criminal complaint.

Surveillance video shows the woman walking toward a waiting car as Durning approached her on the sidewalk. After the woman reached the car, she turned around, walked toward Durning, and appears to make contact with the victim.
