The ‘Respect for Marriage Act’ Is an Exercise in Tyranny, and Everyone Knows It

It’s not hard to game out what happens if the misnamed Respect for Marriage Act passes, codifying Obergefell and enshrining gay marriage in federal law. Everyone, including the dozen Republican senators who voted to advance the legislation last week, knows exactly what will happen. It’s not some big mystery.

What will happen is this: Christians, Jews, Muslims, and anyone else who dares maintain that marriage is a lifelong conjugal union between one man and one woman — the definition of marriage for thousands of years until the U.S. Supreme Court descended from Mount Sinai with Obergefell v. Hodges inscribed on stone tablets — will be branded a bigot and driven from the public square and marketplace.

Anyone who owns a small business related to the wedding industry — photographers, bakers, website designers, venue owners, caterers, florists — will be sued into oblivion if they refuse services to same-sex couples. Religious colleges and universities will lose their tax-exempt status. Religious institutions of every kind, if they hold to their teachings and traditions about marriage, will face an onslaught from the Department of Justice and the federal bureaucracy. . .

The untrammeled exercise of power and the vigorous crushing of dissent is the entire purpose of the proposed law. There can be no other possible justification for it. Michael New, an assistant professor at the Busch School of Business at The Catholic University of America, recently told The Daily Signal that Catholic colleges and universities in particular might face ruinous lawsuits and loss of federal funding if the bill is signed into law.

“Suppose a Catholic college refused to allow a same-sex married couple to live in college owned graduate student housing for families, they might be subject to all kinds of litigation,” he said. “Such a college might lose its nonprofit status. Their students might lose eligibility for federal financial aid and their faculty might lose eligibility from research grants from government agencies.” (Read more from “The ‘Respect for Marriage Act’ Is an Exercise in Tyranny, and Everyone Knows It” HERE)

Kansas Court Blocks Ban on Abortion Pill Prescription Method

A Kansas judge has blocked the state’s ban on prescribing abortion pills via telemedicine, a move that could expand access to abortion.

Shawnee County District Court Judge Teresa Watson granted a temporary injunction barring the enforcement of a state law that requires physicians to administer abortion-inducing drugs while they are in the room with the patient, effectively preventing abortion pills from being prescribed through telemedicine, after Trust Women, a reproductive clinic in the state, filed a lawsuit challenging the ban.

It comes after the Kansas Court of Appeals sided with Trust Women this June, overturning Watson’s previous denial for an injunction.

The appeals court’s majority opinion concluded that Watson made flaws in her previous decision on the matter, diverging from “well-established Kansas caselaw,” and sent it back to the district court to rule on the injunction again, according to the Topeka Capital-Journal. Trump Megadonors Disappearing, Won’t Back Again in ’24

. . .“GOP megadonors Robert Mercer and Rebekah Mercer have no current plans to help former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign for the White House, according to people familiar with the matter,” CNBC reported this week.

“The Mercers, a father and daughter who were among Trump’s major benefactors during his first run for president in 2016, are distancing themselves from the ex-president’s third White House bid and cutting back their overall campaign fundraising, these people said. The people who spoke to CNBC did so on the condition of anonymity in order to talk about private conversations.” . . .

“Blackstone CEO Steve Schwarzman, Citadel CEO Ken Griffin, wealthy New York businessman Andy Sabin and billionaire Ronald Lauder are among the wealthy GOP donors opting against helping Trump’s latest campaign — at least during the Republican primary,” CNBC reported. “Some of the country’s wealthiest GOP donors do not believe Trump can win again and have argued for a new face to represent their party in the race for president.” . . .

“I’d like to think that the Republican Party is ready to move on from somebody who has been for this party a three-time loser,” Griffin said at Bloomberg’s New Economy Forum in Singapore, referring to the last three election cycles, The Hill reported.

Schwarzman was more harsh. “America does better when its leaders are rooted in today and tomorrow, not today and yesterday,” he said in a statement. “It is time for the Republican Party to turn to a new generation of leaders and I intend to support one of them in the presidential primaries.” (Read more from “Trump Megadonors Disappearing, Won’t Back Again in ’24” HERE)

Things That Didn’t Exist When Biden Was Born

. . .On Sunday, Biden celebrated his 80th birthday. Nothing wrong with being old, except that for a president with a proclivity for the smell of very young children and the views of flamboyant Gen-Z Tik-Tok influencers, there is a remarkable amount of modern amenities that didn’t even exist when Biden was born.

The beloved American sweet breakfast wasn’t invented until President Biden was a full 20-years-old. The original pop tart flavors we know and love — strawberry, cinnamon sugar, blueberry, and apple currant — weren’t available to Americans until November of 1964. . .

The first credit card was invented by John Biggins in 1946, four years after Biden was born. American Express didn’t produce its first plastic credit card until the president was 16-years-old. . .

Today, people are singing a funeral dirge for cable television. Streaming services are taking over, and ratings for most of the mainstream shows are plummeting as they embrace woke policy positions only a small fraction of the country even care about. But Biden was six-years-old before even cable television was invented. Netflix and Hulu likely haven’t even crossed the octogenarian’s mind. . .

It’s unclear if in the olden days people didn’t allow their cats inside the house, or if they simply had a more regimented cleaning routine than modern day folks, but cat litter is actually a relatively new invention. Edward Lowe is credited with inventing the first kitty litter in 1947, when the president was 5-years-old. The invention took off in popularity, and Lowe eventually developed the Tidy Cat cat litter brand. (Read more from “Things That Didn’t Exist When Biden Was Born” HERE)

Are American Women Even up to the Task of Cooking for Thanksgiving?

American women know their way around a conference room. However, they have largely forgotten the traditions of a kitchen, leading to the question of whether they are even capable of making one of the nation’s most important meals on Thanksgiving. . .

The celebration of Thanksgiving is the epitome of American values. It showcases that our nation’s strength still lies in the family as we go back to the same house to recreate the same feast with the same people around the same table every year.

It was understood by everyone in the house that this meal was special – something that deserved dedicated time, preparation, and care to complete. It brought families together and kept them close. . .

The sad reality is that American women aren’t being taught how to be homemakers anymore because they are learning to dominate in the workforce instead of perfecting their Sunday roast. It’s much easier to order delivery than to learn how to cook. . .

Tradition is a beautiful thing that shouldn’t be ignored. Because when someone turns their back on tradition, their life often feels chaotic and untethered. Nothing describes the modern woman more. You can see it in every viral video of a 20-30 something female laughing about how her house is a disaster while promising that it’s going to be “totally fine” because she found the collectible toy that McDonald’s was advertising on TikTok. White House Accuses Russia of Tempting a Nuclear Accident With New Attacks on Ukraine’s Power Grid

The White House on Wednesday condemned Russia’s latest barrage of attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure and warned that the Kremlin appears “willing to increase the risk of a nuclear safety incident” as it continues to pummel the country’s power grid.

Multiple regions throughout Ukraine have gone dark following Russia’s latest onslaught, forcing Ukraine’s state-owned nuclear operator Energoatom to disconnect the country’s three fully functioning nuclear power plants from the power grid as part of an “emergency protection measure.”

Officials in Kyiv reported that three people were killed and nine wounded after a two-story building was hit in the capital city. Another four people were killed and 34 wounded in the surrounding region.

White House National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said the Kremlin is turning to “increasingly horrific attacks” as it struggles on the battlefield. (Read more from “White House Accuses Russia of Tempting a Nuclear Accident With New Attacks on Ukraine’s Power Grid” HERE)

Trump Reported Losing Nearly $1B Over 2 Years on Tax Returns: Accountant Testifies

Former President Donald Trump reported losses on his tax returns each year for a decade – including close to $1 billion in a two-year span alone, his onetime accountant testified at trial this week.

Donald Bender, a partner at accounting firm Mazars USA, took the stand in Manhattan Supreme Court Tuesday as part of the criminal tax fraud case against the Trump Organization.

From 2009 to 2018, Bender said he filed 76-year-old Trump’s taxes and “There are losses for all these years.”

Bender – who was called as the first defense witness and was given immunity for testifying before a grand jury – admitted upon questioning from prosecutors that in 2009 and 2010 alone Trump reported losing close to $1 billion. Poll: Trump Dominating 2024 Republican Primary Field

A national poll released Wednesday shows that former President Donald J. Trump is the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican nomination over his potential primary opponents.

The Morning Consult/Politico poll sampled 849 registered voter respondents regarding who they would support in the potential 2024 primary field. Trump, who has officially announced his candidacy, drew 45 percent of their support, placing him 15 points ahead of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis at 30 percent. No other Republican eclipsed double-digits. . .

Wednesday’s survey follows another 2024 primary poll released by Emerson College Polling on Tuesday, showing Trump with a 30-point advantage over DeSantis among registered voters. Trump garnered 55.1 percent of the response to DeSantis’s 24.8 percent. No other candidate breached the ten percent threshold.

Both polls were conducted after Trump announced his 2024 candidacy last week at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, where he promised that America’s brightest days lie ahead. (Read more from “Poll: Trump Dominating 2024 Republican Primary Field” HERE)

New Stats on COVID Deaths Debunk White House Narrative About the Vaccine

New data from the Kaiser Family Foundation shows the majority of people who died from COVID-19 in August were fully vaccinated.

Fifty-eight percent of coronavirus deaths in August were people who were vaccinated or boosted, according to an analysis conducted for The Health 202 by Cynthia Cox, vice president at the Kaiser Family Foundation.

It’s a continuation of a troubling trend that has emerged over the past year. As vaccination rates have increased and new variants appeared, the share of deaths of people who were vaccinated has been steadily rising.

The information comes less than 24 hours after White House Coronavirus Coordinator Dr. Ashish Jha claimed “nearly 100 percent” of deaths from the virus can be stopped if Americans simply get vaccinated and boosted. Georgia Supreme Court Overturns Lower Court, Reinstates 6-Week Abortion Ban

The Georgia Supreme Court has reinstated the state’s six week abortion ban.

In a unanimous decision Wednesday, the state Supreme Court issued a stay against a lower court ruling that overturned the state’s 2019 “heartbeat” abortion ban. The order went into effect immediately, pending an appeal from state officials. The superior court of Fulton County previously overturned the law last week; it had previously been blocked by a federal court until the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade this past summer.

“The State of Georgia’s Emergency Petition for Supersedeas seeking a stay of the order of the Superior Court of Fulton County in [STATE OF GEORGIA v. SISTERSONG WOMEN OF COLOR REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE COLLECTIVE et al.] is hereby granted,” the court wrote in a one-page order. The decision of the court was unanimous; presiding justice Nels S.D. Peterson was disqualified, and justice Andrew A. Pinson did not participate. The court also dismissed a separate request for an administrative stay.
