Britain Bans a Chinese Tech Giant From Building Out 5G Technology

Britain will ban Huawei from deploying equipment designed to build out the country’s fifth generation mobile service, delivering a blow to the Chinese tech giant.

Britain Digital and Media Minister Oliver Dowden announced the decision Tuesday in the House of Commons, noting that the move will take effect in January. Unplugging from Huawei will likely delay the country’s 5G rollout by three years, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

The country will slowly transition away from the company’s 5G components over the next seven years, Dowden stated.

President Donald Trump has done battle with Huawei in recent months, imposing an export control in May that cuts the company off from semiconductors necessary to build out technology. Experts believe 5G will help lay the groundwork for the so-called Internet of Things, a form of technology tying together virtually all appliances to the internet.

All member countries of an alliance called the Five Eyes—Canada, New Zealand, United States, Britain, and Australia—have now sworn off Huawei technology, The Washington Post reported. The Five Eyes represent the world’s most powerful intelligence community. (Read more from “Britain Bans a Chinese Tech Giant From Building Out 5G Technology” HERE)

Why Mike Pompeo’s South China Sea Statement Is So Significant

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s South China Sea statement on Monday is significant for two reasons: It shifts formal U.S. policy and it establishes a quiet jus ad bellum legal foundation for the use of military force against China in these waters.

Let’s start with the shift in U.S. policy. When the United States had previously condemned Chinese claims in the South China Sea, it had also called for regional negotiation to establish territorial ownership rights. This statement endorses a different approach, actively rejecting Chinese claims outright.

“Beijing’s claims to offshore resources across most of the South China Sea are completely unlawful,” the statement said, “as is its campaign of bullying to control them.”

This includes, Pompeo said, the assertion that “Beijing’s harassment of Philippine fisheries and offshore energy development within those areas is unlawful, as are any unilateral [Chinese] actions to exploit those resources.” The U.S. now takes the same stance toward the “Vanguard Bank (off Vietnam), Luconia Shoals (off Malaysia), waters in Brunei’s [exclusive economic zone], and Natuna Besar (off Indonesia). Any [Chinese] action to harass other states’ fishing or hydrocarbon development in these waters — or to carry out such activities unilaterally — is unlawful.”

There’s a deliberate disdain in the U.S. language here. The Trump administration isn’t simply rejecting China’s claims. It is suggesting that other regional nations have far better rights to the waters in question. Pompeo wants to impress the idea not simply of China’s claims being unlawful in legal terms but also absurd in practical reality. We see this with his assertion that China has “no lawful territorial or maritime claim to (or derived from) James Shoal, an entirely submerged feature only 50 nautical miles from Malaysia and some 1,000 nautical miles from China’s coast.” Fifty nautical miles versus 1,000 nautical miles. ‘Message of Truth’: Chinese Virologist Accuses Beijing of Coronavirus Cover-Up, Flees Hong Kong (VIDEO)

Hong Kong scientist Dr. Li-Meng Yan was stepping into uncharted territory.

Hours before she boarded an April 28 Cathay Pacific flight to the United States, the respected doctor who specialized in virology and immunology at the Hong Kong School of Public Health had plotted her escape, packing her bag and sneaking past the censors and video cameras on campus. . .

Yan told Fox News in an exclusive interview that she believes the Chinese government knew about the novel coronavirus well before it claimed it did. She says her supervisors, renowned as some of the top experts in the field, also ignored research she was doing at the onset of the pandemic that she believes could have saved lives. . .

Yan’s story weaves an extraordinary claim about cover-ups at the highest levels of government and seemingly exposes the obsessive compulsion of President Xi Jinping and his Communist Party to control the coronavirus narrative: what China knew, when it knew it and what edited information it peddled to the rest of the world. . .

“The reason I came to the U.S. is because I deliver the message of the truth of COVID,” she told Fox News from an undisclosed location. (Read more from “‘Message of Truth’: Chinese Virologist Accuses Beijing of Coronavirus Cover-Up, Flees Hong Kong” HERE)

China Threatens U.S., Says It Could “Destroy Two Carriers at Any Moment”

Chinese state media said Saturday the double US aircraft carrier deployment to the South China Sea is ‘at their pleasure’.

In a tweet The Global Times also warned: ‘China has a wide selection of anti-aircraft carrier weapons like DF-21D and DF-26 “aircraft carrier killer” #missiles.’

Two U.S. aircraft carriers were conducting exercises in the disputed South China Sea on Saturday, the U.S. navy had said, as China also carried out military drills that have been criticized by the Pentagon and neighboring states.

The state run Global Times said analysts noted and they could destroy the carriers at any moment with missiles in a chilling threat.

The paper wrote: ‘The South China Sea is fully within the grasp of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), and any US aircraft carrier movement in the region is solely at the pleasure of the PLA, which has a wide selection of anti-aircraft carrier weapons like the DF-21D and DF-26 “aircraft carrier killer” missiles.’ (Read more from “China Threatens U.S., Says It Could “Destroy Two Carriers at Any Moment”” HERE)

Wuhan Is the Final Straw: The World Needs to Divest From China; China Reportedly in Talks With Pakistani Terror Groups

By The Hill. The global influence of the Chinese Communist Party both economically and militarily is one of the most concerning stories so far in the 21st century. Despite years of human rights abuses, currency manipulation, dishonest trade practices, and threats to democracy, the Chinese communist government has been able to grow its economy and influence throughout the world at a breathtaking pace.

The current COVID-19 pandemic, and the global economic upheaval it has created, has exposed China as the reckless, dishonest member of the global community that many of us knew them to be. The outbreak in Wuhan and the communist government’s efforts to keep this quiet have led to a global catastrophe. National security advisor Robert O’Brien suggested that this cover up delayed the global response to COVID-19 by two months while the Chinese government allowed its own people to continue traveling to Wuhan and abroad, infecting the world. . .

Although it may be difficult to identify positives from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is plausible to suggest a global awakening to China’s insidious behavior is underway. It is now time for the global community to begin divesting in the China relationship. This is the only thing that will pressure China to operate honestly and abide by the same rules the rest of the world operates by.

The world needs to follow the examples of nations like Australia who has joined the United States in calling for an independent international investigation of China’s handling of COVID-19 and the WHO response. In typical fashion China has threatened Australia with economic sanctions. The Aussies have not relented, however. Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne has labeled these threats “economic coercion,” setting an example for the world to see. . .

In relation to COVID-19, nations should consider economic sanctions on Chinese officials responsible for this cover up and the Chinese companies which have benefitted. Additionally, nations, including the United States, should consider bringing China to the International Court of Justice for their violation of the 2005 International Health Regulations. China’s deception, cover-up, and underreporting of the disease is a clear violation of an agreement signed by nearly 200 states, including China and the United States. China Reportedly in Talks With Pakistani Terror Groups

By India Today. At a time when the Indian and Chinese militaries continue to engage in talks to defuse the tension in Ladakh region, sources say Pakistan has started moving troops along the Gilgit-Baltistan area and the Chinese army is holding talks with terror organisation Al Badr to incite violence in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to sources, Pakistan has moved almost 20,000 additional troops in the northern Ladakh region to match Chinese deployments.

Sources have indicated that Pakistan is looking at an opportunity to open a two-front attack on India. Meanwhile, there were a series of meetings between the Indian Army and intelligence officials to discuss the looming threat.

Sources have said Pakistan’s ISI, egged on by the Chinese, has further increased the sending of battle-hardened terrorists or even planning BAT operations in India. (Read more from “China Reportedly in Talks With Pakistani Terror Groups” HERE)

FCC Orders China-Owned Phoenix TV to Cease Us-Mexico Broadcasts Within 48 Hours; China’s Warning After U.S. Labels 4 Media Firms as “Propaganda Outlets”

By Washington Examiner. The Federal Communications Commission gave a Chinese government-linked Phoenix Radio, which broadcasts from Mexico into the United States, just 48 hours to cease its cross-border operations after it concealed the company’s ties to Beijing.

The FCC’s International Bureau announced Monday that it dismissed a broadcast application to deliver Mandarin Chinese programming from a studio located in California to XEWW-AM in Mexico for rebroadcast back over the border into the U.S. The FCC said the application was dismissed “because the parties failed to include in their application a key participant” — Phoenix TV — “which produces the Mandarin programming in its studio.”

Phoenix Radio is partially owned by two Chinese government-owned groups, Extra Steps Investment Limited and China Wise International Limited. The FCC said, “The parties have 48 hours to cease broadcast operations related to this application.” A 10-page order laid out the FCC’s reasoning.

”Given Phoenix Radio’s extensive role in the operation of the California studio at issue, it was a violation of the Communications Act for that company, which has ties to the Chinese government, not to be included on the application filed with the Commission,” an FCC spokesperson told the Washington Examiner. “Therefore, the application was deficient and was dismissed.”

The Phoenix TV radio station owned by China used a tower in Mexico to broadcast into Southern California. The Free Beacon reported the Mexican station was bought by a China-linked investment group in 2018. Phoenix TV came under scrutiny earlier this year when a journalist from the outlet questioned President Trump during a White House Coronavirus Task Force press briefing. China’s Warning After U.S. Labels 4 Media Firms as “Propaganda Outlets”

By NDTV. China threatened Tuesday to retaliate against new US restrictions on Chinese state media, escalating tensions between the two superpowers as they crack down on each other’s news outlets.

The US State Department said Monday it was reclassifying four organisations — China Central Television, China News Service, the People’s Daily and the Global Times — as foreign missions rather than media outlets in the United States, adding to five others designated in February.

China has already expelled more than a dozen American journalists as part of the row.

On Tuesday Beijing decried the latest US move as “bare-faced political suppression of Chinese media” that “further exposes the hypocrisy of the so-called freedom of speech and press which the US likes to flaunt”.

“We strongly urge the US to reject this Cold War mindset and ideological bias… otherwise China will have no choice but to make an appropriate response,” said foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian at a routine briefing. Russia: Trump Has Sanctioned Us More in Three Years Than Obama in Eight

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference on Tuesday that the Trump administration has made more sanctions decisions against Russia in three years than the Obama administration did in eight.

“I’ve lost count already, trying to sum up the number of decisions made by both the Obama and the Trump Administrations. The Trump Administration, by the way, has already long surpassed Obama’s by the sheer amount of persons and legal entities covered by these decisions,” said Lavrov, as quoted by Russia’s state-run Tass news agency.

Of course, Lavrov did not render this verdict in an approving manner. He grumbled that the United States has grown less interested in resolving international disputes through negotiations than Russia or China.

“Our American colleagues have basically long ago embarked on abandoning diplomacy as a method of conducting business at the international arena. Unless it is a very exotic diplomacy, comprised of primitive simple moves: a demand is put forth, and, unless the demand meets total capitulation, then sanctions are threatened, complete with an ultimatum terms, and, if there is again no capitulation, the US imposes those sanctions,” he complained. China Develops Weapons to Fry U.S. Electric Grid, Eyes High-Tech ‘Pearl Harbor’ Attack

With the help of stolen U.S. technology, China has developed at least three types of high-tech weapons to attack the electric grid and key technologies in a “surprise Pearl Harbor” assault that could send America into a deadly blackout, according to a new analysis.

According to the report from the independent EMP Task Force on National and Homeland Security, China has built a network of satellites, high-speed missiles, and “super-electromagnetic pulse” weapons that could melt down the U.S. electric network, fry critical communications, and stifle aircraft carrier groups.

According to the report, written by the task force’s executive director, Peter Pry, long an expert on EMP warfare, China developed the weapons as part of its “Total Information Warfare” that includes hacking raids on computers.

What’s more, despite China’s promises to attack only after being attacked, Pry revealed new data to show that the communist nation is lying and eager to shoot first with “high-altitude electromagnetic pulse,” or HEMP, weapons launched from satellites, ships, and land.

“China’s military doctrine — including numerous examples presented here of using HEMP attack to win on the battlefield, defeat U.S. aircraft carriers, and achieve against the U.S. homeland a surprise ‘Pearl Harbor’ writ large — is replete with technical and operational planning consistent with a nuclear first-strike,” said Pry in his report provided to Secrets. China Creep on Campus: Dozens of Colleges Fail to Disclose Millions in Chinese Donations

Dozens of top American universities that received funding from the Chinese government failed to disclose those donations to the Department of Education, prompting concerns from education watchdogs about Beijing’s growing influence on campuses.

More than 100 U.S. universities host or once hosted Confucius Institutes, programs underwritten by the Chinese government that teach Chinese language and culture to American college students. The Department of Education requires all credentialed universities to disclose foreign gifts of more than $250,000, but only about 30 percent of institutions with Confucius Institutes have disclosed their financial ties to Beijing, according to a Washington Free Beacon review of federal records.

The Free Beacon reached out to all 75 institutions that did not report their funding to the federal government; 22 of them responded. A common theme of the responses was that the colleges did not disclose their donations because their annual receipts did not meet the $250,000 threshold. For example, a spokesman from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville said the college declined to disclose its 2019 Confucius Institute donations because it received only $246,711.

Rachelle Peterson, director of policy at the National Association of Scholars, called the lack of accountability at prestigious universities “alarming.”

“It is extremely alarming how little transparency there is,” she said. “$250,000 is much too high of a threshold. Gifts of money at much smaller amounts can be very swaying over a college or university, especially the humanities [departments] which traditionally have lower funding.” (Read more from “China Creep on Campus: Dozens of Colleges Fail to Disclose Millions in Chinese Donations” HERE)

Chinese Military Officer Arrested While Allegedly Trying to Steal U.S. Medical Research

A Chinese military officer was caught trying to leave California with university research materials this week, after allegedly lying on an application to obtain a visitor visa for a work-study exchange program, the Justice Department announced.

Xin Wang, a scientific researcher and officer with China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA), was arrested at LAX as he was attempting to board his flight to Tianjin, China, according to court documents unsealed this week. He faces visa fraud charges.

Wang entered the U.S. on March 26, 2019, to conduct scientific research at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), according to his J1 non-immigrant visa application. The application, however, is said to have contained fraudulent statements — including claims that his service with the PLA had ended in 2016 — that were made to increase the chances that he would receive visa approval.

Officials claim Wang revealed that he had instructions from the director of his military lab to observe the layout of the UCSF lab with the understanding that they wanted to try to replicate it in China. He was also accused of attempting to bring materials to China with him and had already emailed research.
